Conscious reincarnation research question

I have a question that I hope might find an answer. Does anyone know of an individual or group who is researching the topic of reincarnation, and who would be interested in objective data of conscious incarnation/reincarnation? I believe that the Tibetan Buddhists generally refer to it as tulku, the conscious choice to reincarnate.

For roughly fifteen years I have written books and many articles on the topic, but it has appeared that the public is not interested. I thought that biologists, psychologists, and philosophers would surely be interested in comparing the data with current hypotheses, but again I was wrong. While there is still time I would like to hand the information to someone who can make good use of it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome, Larry

You have certainly come to the right website. Have you thought about self publishing your books on amazon.com? If you go to the website you can find information there about it.

Also, you have many people here who would be absolutely fascinated to read your work, myself included.

Thanks for the reply Mama,

Yes, I had numerous e-books several years back until Amazon/Mobipocket stopped paying royalties to many of us (a long agonizing battle that I prefer to not repeat). I have two books on B&N (psychology and philosophy genres), but the small sales do not warrant the time and expense of publishing more titles. I have made far too many publishing mistakes to try again. ;)

I have a lengthy reincarnation article online that I have been watching to see how search engines react (SEO is a hobby ;) ), and the article has a few small portions of the research. I strongly frown on posting a link on anyone else's website - even if the forum moderators were to permit it - so for now I feel that it is best to wait until the article is ranked well on its own before talking about it much.

Nevertheless, since you were kind enough to respond, I feel that I should at least give a few highlights of the research. We have developed a method of evaluating specific mental processes that objectively verify the differences between imagination and firsthand experience. I am quite pleased with the results, primarily because the evaluation method cannot feasibly be fudged by individuals attempting to cheat. The research project began as a means of classifying different cognitive statuses within humans, but the methodology has also been found useful for several different topics (like reincarnation interpretations).

For myself I have always interpreted a form of reincarnation to be valid, and so the testing methods help to clarify in my mind that some reports of reincarnation are indeed valid.

A humorous abbreviated reincarnation-related story that you might enjoy: when young my body died, and the spirit/soul/consciousness/whatever did not mind much (life has always been known to be temporary), so the spirit was ready to go back to from where it came, but then a knowing was made known that if I left then, I would just have to come back and do it all over again until I got it right. Bummer! So I stayed (apparently). {grin} Regardless of whether the experience was true or not, the experience does illustrate that I had always interpreted a form of reincarnation to be valid.

Thanks Cryscat but as I mentioned I do not like to place links on sites that are not my own, and too, I interpreted the forum rules to say that linking to one's own sites is considered spam. Within a few months the article may be in the top ten on search engines for its keywords, and it will then be easy to find anyway.

Larry, I would very much like to see your research and hope that you find a way to publish it in some way, and am sorry to hear of your previous publishing woes. I'm sure there are many others in this forum who would like to see your research too. That you say it appears the public is not interested is probably not unexpected – I think the topic of reincarnation is challenging and confronting for many people, esp. those who have no memories of reincarnation and/or are not inclined to have an interest in philosophical or spiritual matters.

I am curious to know what proportion of reincarnation cases that you (i.e. “we”) evaluated were genuine (vs false), if you are able to share this.

LarryG - you can pass your link by one of the Admins and if approved you can add it to your signature line.

Thanks for the reply Firebird,

I think that you are correct; most people simply do not have an interest in anything philosophical, spiritual, religious, scientific, or much of anything else that requires their own participation. Humorously I jest with the question of wondering if it were not for the inherent human desire for physical pleasures, then surely many people would simply fall over dead from a lack of interest. ;-)

I have not had the time nor the opportunity to investigate many claims of reincarnation, but to date there are two confirmed individuals plus two others that I suspect would prove valid if we could spend time together in a question/answer session. The typical human is not skilled at describing an experience or memory, so written reports are not considered conclusive.

Research is a continuing effort that consumes at least a thousand hours a year and never ends. There is no one final answer to anything, and to merely touch on one topic requires that a dozen other topics are brought into focus. There is no value to the reader if we talk about one part of the research without our simultaneously explaining the reasons why the one part is considered important, and to adequately explain the reasons would require many thousands of words for each topic.

I am not concerned whether any of my writings sell, but I would have liked to have handed my research to someone who would invest their time into continuing the research. It's no big deal though, the project was fun for me, and I cannot expect others to share a similar joy.

Deborah, thank you for the offer but it would not feel proper to me to link one of my sites (purely a personal preference). I have diverted my attention back to a different project, and so the reincarnation angle will likely no longer be further pursued anyway.
