Musician in a past life? Musician in my present life...

Hi,

I've known since I was born...basically since I could remember anything, I KNEW I was supposed to play the guitar. I didn't know if I was supposed to be great at it or be a hobbyist when I was growing up, but all I knew was that I already knew how to play with no lessons.

I wanted to start playing when I was young, but my family was poor and had no money for me to take lessons. When I was 16, my family moved and the school I attended gave free music lessons. They asked me to play bass guitar. So with a year of bass lessons under my belt, I bought a guitar so I could pursue the instrument I already knew.

I've been playing professionally for most of my life, but am not a "star" by today's definition of the term... but I am, as I've been told by people who are famous, good enough to be famous and have had a few brushes with fame (only to have them dashed due to my health!).

So I've been to a few people who said they could regress me and I was told I couldn't be hypnotized.

I've got my own issues with the whole reincarnation "Thing" but my playing, to those who know, seems to be that of someone born to it rather than a learned skill. If that's the case, it has to come from a former life, doesn't it?

If anyone has similar stories or can help me understand this, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for reading.

Stéphane,

Your statement seems to touch on channeled knowledge coming from a PL as a guitar player. It's like you "know it from somewhere". Your PL as a guitarist is probably close by on your karmic thread; probably preceeding the currant incarnation.

Did you ever have any dreams about playing guitar? Has there been any specific brand or style of guitar that you "seemed to know from somewhere"? Did you ever see a guitar of any make/model somewhere that seemed to speak to you or evoke a memory that didn't seem to come from the current incarnation? Have any of your family or entourage ever noticed any ingenious about you with a guitar beyond any tutoring you had? Have there been any other uncanny clues that seemed to come from an unknown source?

I had my own a-ha moment when I read Edgar Cayce on Dreams: a peculiar series of dreams I had looking like Bonanza episodes in a French town indicated my having been incarnated prior as a Parisian artist in Jules Verne's era. My own oil-painting techniques are derived from the dreams.

By all means keep exploring what you can do with a guitar. It sounds like you reincarnated to continue something about playing guitars.

Your example does echo my own as a "returning" or reincarnated artist. Please share if you can.

Hi,

I had dreams all the time as a young child... from about the age of 6 or 7, they were really strong. I had them as early as 4 or 5, but I didn't ever have an opportunity to do anything despite insisting that I needed a guitar.

The metal bodied Dobro was always a draw for me and later, it was a Gibson Les Paul.

My mom was always encouraging. My dad and siblings just couldn't understand why I was so in to it, but the first time they saw me perform, they were shocked and were very supportive...pretty much saying they had no idea I could play that well.

My slide playing/blues playing has always been something that didn't make sense. Not trying to brag, but I've had people ask me why I'm not living in a musical center like LA or Nashville? Basically, poor health and I chose family over pursuing fame.

It's odd... through genealogy, I discovered I had multiple aboriginal Canadian lines... Cree, Algonquin and Huron. I am also the descendant of multiple Mi'kmaq/Acadian/Cajun lines and one Haitian/Mi'kmaq/Creole line... none of which have any musical past that I can find, however I am also a descendant of Felix Mendelssohn, Gustav Mahler and another that I can't recall offhand, but I have no particular talent for classical music, even though I am a fairly prolific composer of original instrumental blues compositions.
Last year, in my studies I discovered a revelation in terms of my genealogical studies, but it's so distant, and indirect, that I didn't know if there is any significance. On my mom's side, I am related to the Allman Brothers, Gregg and Howard Duane Allman. The funny thing is, guitar wise, I've basically got the same guitars he had before he passed in the motor cycle accident.
The thing is, he passed after I was born, but my memories and playing styles seem to come from more than one "source" if that makes sense.
I've been told that I sound like Duane, but I'm not willing to make such a stretch, given my birth and his death, but I don't know what is possible in the reincarnation/past lives realm.

You seem to know more about this kind of thing and maybe you can shed some light on what I have related here.

Thank you for your response.

Stéphane

So, what did you dream about when you were little? Your story sounds somewhat familiar. My husband started his guitar playing learning the blues too.

Hi Bluesman

Welcome to the forum.

From what we know, it seems that it's more common than not to be reincarnated back into the same family. It seems souls like to stick together from one life to the next, just as they do in this one, whether with a friend group or a family group, a 'soul group' if you like. So, it would not be surprising at all if you were the reincarnation of one of your uncles.

However, if he died after you were born, that kind of rules out being this particular guy. There are differing opinions about this and time being something we don't fully understand .... quantum physics, alternate dimensions........ But in general it is not usual to be the reincarnation of someone who died after you were born.

That said, you could certainly be the reincarnation of another musician? Especially since you say the guitar came pretty easily to you and you loved it so much when you were little. I would also like to hear more about the dreams?

You would probably like this post. There is every reason to suspect that child prodigies were musicians in their past lives.
