My past life being a Redcoat foot soldier

Adam M

Member
Hi, my name is Adam. I am new to this forum.

I remember my past life since I was very young already. I tried to tell what I remember to others and of course, not too many people near me believe me, so I have been hiding all these to myself being so lonely.

I remember I was one of those 18th century British empire lowest rank pawn class redcoat foot soldiers sent to do invasion charges in India and I was killed there by beheading.

I wonder how I remember everything so vividly now after so many years? Omg I have so many questions.

Welcome to the forum @Adam M :) feel free to share as much as you feel comfortable with. I agree it can be very lonely to remember past lives but not feeling able to share that with others. You've come to the right place. There haven't been too many members with memories of being a Redcoat. I remember the British army too, but Redcoats were before my time.

Awww really? You do know about us the British empire redcoat foot soldiers too. Honestly, I was just one of those lowest rank (what they called pawn class) foot redcoat soldiers so I didn’t know much. I remember I was conscripted when I just turned 18 on November 1790 and we were immediately sent to India to do invasion charges in tight line formation. We were beheaded in September 1791 for invading. Were we redcoat foot soldiers very bad? I heard we were much like the nazis and Japanese soldiers in WWII that no one would think twice about killing us all?

I don't really know much about Redcoats I'm afraid, they were before 'my' time. My memories are all from after the army switched to Khaki uniforms.

As an invading, colonial force, the British army would not have had a good reputation among the peoples of the places being invaded. Even if you and your fellow soldiers yourselves were fine, as a whole the army were not well liked, and probably deservedly so in the eyes of those you fought against. It is usually the same in any war. There is a book I want to read but haven't yet, which might help you: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Redcoat-British-Soldier-Horse-Musket-ebook/dp/B005PROO8W

Awww thanks for sharing the book - I will likely read it myself too! I understand how as an entire army we were not liked and understandably they wanted to killed us all invading redcoat soldiers like me. But why the guillotine? I remember I was so scared and panic that I didn’t know why they had to behead us all.

I'm so sorry you have remembered such a distressing death. The guillotine was a weapon of terror in France, so maybe it could have been used in a symbolic way against the British (the British, and especially the English, have a long, and deep rivalry with France). To be a Brit killed by a French weapon would have been very symbolic. However, this is just my speculating, based on what I know of British and colonial history, so please take it with a pinch of salt.

Ohhhh I see. I get it now, so it was really a French weapon that is symbolic using it to behead many British redcoat foot soldiers including me. Oh no, so my severed head would have been used to send a “message” then?! It’s difficult to swallow this entirely. Thanks for explaining it to me. I wish they could have had mercy on us since we were just the lowest rank pawn class redcoat foot soldiers.

Well, I don't know if that could have been the reason or not. I wasn't there, but that is my gut feeling (speaking as a Brit in my current life, and the vast majority of my past lives too).

Have you done any research into the time/place you believe you were when you were killed?

Aww you were a Brit in your past lives too? That is awesome! Yes - I actually was able to contact (via friends who are studying history and archaeologists) that local historians in India was able to identify us, thousands of redcoat foot soldiers being lined up to French guillotine and beheaded there immediately after a British invading line charge. It happened in September 1791, the exactly month I remember I was beheaded too! They said it was done outside the main gate of a fortress in south India, the same fortress we were invading and charging at.

Wow! That is an amazing validation! This might be something to work on if you want to find out more about your life back then. You have the historical facts, now you can focus more on what that life means emotionally, if that is something that you want to do. From my experience, we remember often because there is unfinished healing to be done on an emotional level.

Yes, been a Brit in the vast majority of the lives I've remembered. My soul must be pretty comfortable here :)

Yea but I was amazed how the Indian historians there actually believed I was one of those redcoat soldiers beheaded there too. Honestly I didn’t expect that they would believe me. Wow so being a british yourself, how do you feel that thousands of us young redcoat foo my soldiers were beheaded by guillotine there after our invading charge? Honestly I still remember my childhood, my life as a redcoat soldier and how I was dragged to the guillotine too.

It's upsetting for sure, but for myself, it also feels very far away, so it's quite hard to say how I feel exactly. How does it make you feel?

You mean you feel very “far away” because you only remember your past like distant memories and only some details here and there? I always remember of me being a redcoat foot soldier when I was very young. Now I actually remember everything very vividly. Some people even told me I could very possibly be still the same redcoat soldier and being a decapitated soldier ghost now due to the way how swiftly and cleanly I was beheaded by a guillotine.

By 'far away' I was referring to your question:

Wow so being a british yourself, how do you feel that thousands of us young redcoat foo my soldiers were beheaded by guillotine there after our invading charge?

The history you describe feels 'far away' to me, as a 21st Century observer. It will feel differently to you for sure, as you were there and directly involved.

Yes, my own memories are generally hazy, but sometimes they can be quite clear, especially when they are close to the surface, and in the transitional seasons for some reason (Spring and Autumn).

I can understand why you would feel so far away from what I experienced back then. I remember I was taken as a redcoat foot soldier in November 1790 and immediately sent to invade India and got beheaded in September 1791. So it was more than 200 years ago!!! It is of course indeed “very far” away in time! But what I don’t quite understand is how my soul or ghost could remember things so vividly so far away in time. It’s scary but fascinating to me at the same time.

If you search through the forum you will come across so many others that have asked the same questions. The reasons for remembering are as diverse as the people asking why! In general, memories seem to stay through lifetimes when there is emotional healing to be done, when something has been left unfinished or unsaid (especially in cases of traumatic or sudden death), when there is a pattern to be understood across lives that might be holding us back. Only you can answer why you have such vivid memories, by searching within yourself.

Hi hi - sorry for being out of touch for so long. Omg but I kept talking to the archaeologists there in India for a while. Amazed they were still able to do something amid the pandemic there. They indeed found some of our decapitated redcoat soldier skeletons there validating what I remember as a redcoat foot soldier decapitated by guillotine there in 1791. But they were very negative against us a invading redcoat foot soldiers. I tried to explain to them that we were just the lowest rank pawn class redcoat foot infantry soldiers much like drones followed obedient order to stand guard, march and charge in our tight line formation like robots but they said it didn’t matter, but we all must be executed there. It was a bit too much for me to understand and accept and I am still struggling with this fact.
