Nature of consciousness

Do you think that it is possible for us to truly comprehend the scope of consciousness from within our 3 dimensional world that we currently live in? Do you think that we are forced to only view the true nature of conciousness through a 3D perspective? How do you think that affects the way we learn about conciousness? (ie, do you believe that we can glean a true understanding of consciousness from a 3D perspective?)

Hi Amy,

Do you think that it is possible for us to truly comprehend the scope of consciousness from within our 3 dimensional world that we currently live in?
Yes, but I think it’s pretty rare to be that connected – that inward focused. Not impossible – but extremely rare. I don’t believe that we travel to other dimensions outside of ourselves – but that all answers are found within.

When you are focused outwards – you are focused away from the whole. I think a lot of what you are expressing about consciousness has also to do with perception of reality. ;)

Do you think that we are forced to only view the true nature of conciousness through a 3D perspective?
No – I don't think we are "forced" to do anything. I believe we choose how we see things. Imo - consciousness is an absolute knowing of itself. The decisions of consciousness activate vibrations within the universal field of thought in which we all perceive and experience. Consciousness is an all-knowingness - a pure awareness that exists beyond space, time. It is not separate from us.

At the level of the "implicate order", which is a sort of "higher dimension", there is no difference between matter and mind. That difference arises within the "explicate order" (the conventional space-time of Physics). As we travel inwards, we travel towards that “higher dimension,” the implicate order, in which mind and matter are the same. As we travel outwards, we travel towards the explicate order in which subject and object are separate.

Thank you Aili for your excellent response. That helps me to understand even more of what I am trying to accomplish in searching for my own understanding of my consciousness. I'd not thought of it that way. I knew I needed other's perspectives on this one. This has helped me immensely. Thank you!

Various forms of meditation are all about doing this Amy, in a variety of traditions.

The power of the mind and the extent of consciousness we can tap into is quite extraordinary. It takes a certain amount of dedication, practice and concentration however.

As Ailish says, mostly when caught up in day to day problems and adventures we don't take the time to explore these more subtle experiences.

All that said, we are here, incarnated in 3D reality to 'do stuff' - to have 3D-type reality experiences, birth, death, hunger, pain, thirst, love, desire and so on and to learn to deal with all that while still 'evolving' towards 'enlightenment' (or whatever it is one is up to).

In my view, if you spend your life in meditation, trying to tap into the 'other world' and tune out of 3D reality, you are kind of missing the point. So, balance is good - if you can 'be' in the world, but understand the complexities of reality at the same time and use these insights to further your own and others' earthly progress, perhaps that is using one's time wisely?

I am currently reading HH The Dalai Lama's book 'The universe in a single atom' and he talks about this at some length among other things. The intent of the book is to explore the similarities and differences in the Buddhist and Scientific world views regarding such things as the nature of reality and the purpose of existence. A good read.

The Nature of Consciousness

I believe the depth of our awareness is dependent entirely on our ability or readiness to accept it. The further along we are on the path, the more is revealed to us; and as long as we accept it with humility and allow it to live through us to selflessly serve the good of all, the farther we advance on that path.

To comprehend the totality of consciousness is to remember our oneness with God and cease the cycle of reincarnating.

In my humble opinion. :)

Tanguerra, I was just thinking of getting the book written by the Dalai Lama. I guess this is my cue to get on with it. Thank you all for your informative and intelligent answers.

I appreciate the thought you've taken to answer my questions! hug2.gif
