Reincarnation: The Hindu Religion

here are hundreds of religions that exist in the world. Each and every religion highlights the importance of God. Religions are the light showing the path through to the right way. The concept of reincarnation is backed by half of the religions in the world. Hinduism is one of the main religion which supports reincarnation. This article throws light into the reincarnation concepts of the Hindu religion.
God Vishnu is the one who maintains the universe and everything in it. His aim is to save the earth and the people from evil. From time to time he incarnates on the earth to destroy evil and help the needy. It is believed that his 10th rebirth will be for the destruction of Kalki, the evil power which currently rules the world. Lord Vishnu received the body of animals, birds and humans in different times to take rebirth in this world. His 10 rebirths are known as Dashavatharam. Read More

Thanks for sharing that jefflosan912! The "problem" I have with the Hindu view on reincarnation is the belief that we can reincarnate as any being (human or animal) and that is something I can't quite get my head around. Feel free to enlighten me but there are so many people who remember/know of past lives in forms of memories, dreams or even regression therapy and I have never came across anyone who had any memory of being a certain animal. Surely there would be some people out there who know there were animals in their pervious lives. Also, what would be the point for humans to reincarnate as other animals - we humans are so different from most animals that a change of a completely different body would have quite an effect I'd assume. What sort of life lessons could we learn through other species. It all just does not make sense to me. I might be totally wrong but I feel like animals have a different kind of soul or something, I dont know how to explain this really.

Does anyone else have similar views on this? Would love to hear other people's opinions.

Sorry I'm adding something in here; I also liked reading the bit about energy and attraction. It really made me think of the law of attraction which I can highly recommend researching, in short it states that everything that comes into your life, good or bad, you have attracted - positive energy attracts positive enegery and negative energy attracts negative energy. It's about taking a certain stance in your life, think about positive thing and turn things into a positive and the universe will simply adhere to its laws and you attract more positive happenings in your life. I feel like this is also shown in the paranormal - generally if you have bad intentions you are often bound to get negative spirits/energies.

Hi Jefflosan912! Welcome to the Forum!

Religion seems to be an important door through which many of us begin our exploration of Reincarnation; and it is certainly the most historic realm for intellectual discussion concerning the afterlife, of which Reincarnation composes a very large portion. But, in our search for "the true Religion" we often loose sight of the fact that all Religions suffer some form of human misinterpretation, mistranslation, and periodic neurosis.

Hi, Sawol.

If we understand reincarnation as the process for the evolution of Consciousness, then indeed it would not make sense to reincarnate as a creature of lesser consciousness than we currently hold. I believe this is a misunderstanding on the part of the Hindus. It does make sense, however, that we may have evolved through various stages of consciousness, including that of "animal" forms, and in fact some people seem to be still very close to such a stage, IMO because they have more recently evolved from one stage to another.

Seeing as nothing goes to waste or is for no reason, I don't believe that the millions of years of dinossaur forms would have been without a purpose. I, for one, believe that Nightrain was quite certainly once a Tyranossaurus Rex...:thumbsup:

Thanks for your message Chevalier, that made a lot more sense, I hadn't really thought of it that way. I always felt like thinking that we are the only beings with a "consciousness" is like saying we are the centre of the universe, I just wasn't sure where exactly other animals came into the picture.

Interestingly there are very few other animals with an actual self awareness, like some dolphins. So I guess we do see certain degrees/levels in the animal kingdom (with dolphins on the high end I suppose).

And domestic animals are very close to human levels perhaps? :) They certainly go through the experiences of a sense of family and of care for each other, in particular their offspring...

Does throw a whole new light when we view it in this way, doesn't it? The concept of consciousness evolution is also a very strong argumentation against the argument used by those who are sceptical that reincarnation cannot be possible given the increase in numbers of the human population. IMO, "Consciousness" is omnipresent in the universe, at various and diverse levels. Undoubtedly it is perceivable and a reality of nature. Perhaps it just hasn't been given its due attention, because "science" has labelled it as a mere consequence of the electro-chemical activities of the physical brain... :(

Not really.

I know of TWO religions viz. Buddhism & Jainism (both originating in ancient India) which don't believe in God. The Buddhists are AGNOSTIC, oscillating between belief & disbelief, and the Jains are ATHEISTS i.e. they outright deny God.

But they are BOTH convinced in Reincarnation.

Minor correction: Lord Vishnu would be reincarnating as Kalki to destroy the prevalent evil and reinstate order in the world. the belief held by many and stated in Hindu scriptures.

Nice discussion.....
