Past lives and depression

Hi, I'm new to this forum.

I'm 35 and a mom of 2. I have suffered from severe depression since my early teens. I wonder if this has anything to do with a past life?

I have had what I think may be past life memories, since I was very small. One where I am a little girl, wearing a white coat, being led into a large brick building, away from my family. I have my belongings and I am going to stay there for a long time. I feel confused and sad.

Another one where I am a baby in a pram, we are enjoying the day at a park. It's a nice day.

I did a past-life hypnosis video a few weeks ago and I imagined I was an older woman in the 40s, who lived in an area where there were lots of woods, and I owned a car. I don't know if that was a true memory or just something that I pulled out of nowhere.

I am very drawn to adopting children (I have two of my own and I have always wanted to adopt as well.) I wonder if this has something to do with the memory of being a little girl and having to leave my family?

My depression is absolutely debilitating, and I have to be on heavy medication. I'm off the meds right now because i think I may be pregnant.

I was thinking about getting a psychic reading to help me through this, but I'm not sure how much I believe in it, and my husband would be mad at me for "wasting money" on such a thing....

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Edit:

I wanted to add that mods may move this to a different section if necessary.

it is very possible from the books I have read depression may be linked.as for "wasting money" there are some fraudsters out there who claim to be psychic and take your money.there are legit psychics too.I think this forum only lists psychologist(not sure if that is the right spelling sorry) trained in past life regressions. personally If it were up to me and I had the money I would go with the psychologist.why because if there are any emotional side effects of regression they can help. there are also free videos on regression hypnosis on the forum too. these are just suggestions good luck with whichever you decide.

Please don't go to a psychic. Find a certified hypnotherapist who can help you through this troubled time and who can explore past life issues with you. People gain a lot of healing through past life discovery. The best of luck to you.

You said pram... That's interesting because the first thing that popped into my head was that you were sent to live with with someone else during the bombing campaigns of london and England during WWII. Maybe that had something to do with it.

If you made it that far on your own I would continue and journal as much as you can remember.

There's plenty of resources avaible online and many members here that can help you verify details.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I don't even know why I said pram-- I am American:confused:

I feel like there is something causing this horrible depression besides genes. I've gone so far as to have my genes tested, as well as hormones, vitamins, thyroid-- everything. Everything is normal. I have a lovely life and a great marriage. But I feel tortured inside. It's absolute hell.

I'll take a look and see if I can find a hypnotherapist in my area that deals with past life regressions. Thanks

ETA: I googled WWII children's dress and the style definitely matches the coat I was wearing in that "memory", and I definitely do get an urban Europe vibe from it. Interesting, thanks!

OK, sorry for posting yet again but this is super interesting. I had never known about children being evacuated in WWII. Googling photos and information, that seems to really match my memory-- not just the hazy visual I have, but the entire "feeling" of it. Does that even make sense? Leaving my mother and going to an unknown place, feeling unsure and terribly sad.

I just have a couple of questions...

If this is true and I was a child evacuee during the war (there were about two million children affected, so it's not too far-fetched), then how could I have this other recollection of being a woman in 1940s America in the pine woods with a car... perhaps that was something my imagination created? I never had any memories of that, it was just what I "saw" when I did the hypnosis video a few weeks ago.

Also, if the children were evacuated to places in the country, I wonder why my memory seems to be of a large brick building in a city.

Of course that could be anything-- maybe it was a safer city, or maybe I was being sent to an orphanage or something, and it had nothing to do with the evacuation.....

Edit: It's possible the woman in the pine woods died in the 30s. She was old in my vision, and the car matches with pictures of cars in the mid to late 30s.

Hi Iarali

Welcome to the forum.

It is possible that the woman is from the 1930s and the next life was a little child during the war.

A lot of children were sent out of the city for their safety. Sadly, not all of them had happy experiences. Many children were sent to Australia and adopted as orphans, although their parents were alive. Some of them were made to work on farms as virtual slave labour, picking fruit and milking cows and so on. All very sad a lot of the things that happened. The large brick building could be an orphanage as you say, or some kind of government building, or even a port building if the children were going on a ship?

If you want to find out more about all this (and I recommend it, as a lot of your current sadness could indeed be connected with past life sorrows that are unresolved) take a look in the FAQ section. There are various threads about how to discover more about past lives.

If you can afford it and find a good practioner, a professional regression is a terrific thing, not just to recover old memories, but also to discuss how it all makes you feel and how it might relate to present life issues. Many people believe that this kind of therapy is faster and more effective than regular psychiatric counseling.

Dr Hans Tendam has a good website talking about his practice and what it's all about. It's worth having a read.

http://www.earth-association.org/articles/past-life-therapy-by-hans-tendam/

It is always a good idea to start a journal about all this. Write down everything you can remember. Draw sketches, clip some photos if you find something on the internet that looks familiar. This can often prompt more memories to fill in some of the blanks. Write down how it makes you feel and how those feelings might relate to things in your present life. Is there a pattern here? Is there a lesson you are trying to master? Are there mistakes you can avoid making again? This can be a good way to get insights and resolve feelings about various life events.

Depression is very difficult and I feel for you. Whether you suffer from melancholy or not, it is always a good idea to get plenty of sleep, eat good food, get some regular exercise and fresh air.

Try to encourage yourself to have positive thoughts, although I know this is not always easy. Every day to think of one thing that happened during the day that made you smile and put that in your journal too. If nothing good happens one day, you can always read back over the old ones and have another chance to smile.

I have moved this to 'Past Life memories'. Good luck with your explorations. I'm interested to read more as you go along.

There were also children from Britain evacuated to Canada early in the War. That stopped after one of the ships was sunk. I think there were also British adult civilians evacuated out of London to the countryside during the Blitz.

Thanks.

I found what looks to be a good regression therapist in my area, so hopefully I can convince my husband to let me go.

Otherwise I will try out some of the videos on Youtube, as I seem to have had luck with that the last time.

This is fun:tongue:

Today, the husband and kids were at work and school, so I decided to do a regression video while the house was quiet.

I have done this video before, and that's when I saw the old lady with the car. But I wanted to tune into this other life as a child, the one that I actually have memories of.

During the first part of the video, I kept crying. Especially when he asked me to remember a childhood memory (I recalled my three-year-old birthday party). I cried a lot. I guess because those happy days are long gone :(

During the rest of the video, I had a hard time focusing. There were a couple of details I managed to get, though.

I think I died at age 14 (that age stood out clearly).... I got an image of some sort of reception. People were eating cake. It was a big dark room with wood walls. I had on a gauzy dress with a square collar. I am not sure if I was actually in attendance or if I was dead and just hovering around.

Before that, I saw myself lying in a bed, and a nurse was bringing me something.... I experienced the room and the sheets clearly.

The most surprising thing was that I felt that my uncle was a part of my life then. I don't know in what capacity. It was just something that sort of popped into my head and I knew it without a doubt. In this life, we definitely have some complex issues (despite the fact that he was my favorite uncle growing up, and him spoiling me rotten, things he has said has really hurt me and I struggle with it a great deal).

I can't tell in what time period all this took place, but it seemed longer ago than the last 60 years.

Some part of me wonders if this is all just fantasy...?

Edit to add: there was a part where he asked us to visualize a spirit guide or deceased relative or whatever and ask for some advice or message. I chose to visualize my beloved grandma. The message she gave me (besides I love you bla bla) was that I should cook more!!!!! I hate cooking. I really want to believe this is not true. :(

Many people consider that Brian Weiss regression video to be the best. Each time you do a regression you will get new information. Congratulations. :)

I tried the video that Tulip had posted on her thread and no luck. I imagined some things, but they did not feel like memories. I think I was creating stuff in my mind.

I'm under a lot of stress and depression right now so maybe that's why I can't seem to hypnotize.

I don't think my husband will allow me to go to a real regression therapist. To be honest, the idea is starting to weird me out a bit. I'm in a poor emotional state right now and it might be better if I just don't go there.

I just wish I had answers. :(

Different videos / tapes work better for different people. Just find the one that works for you. Being stressed is not helpful, but you're actually doing very well for a beginner, so don't think it's not working, because it is. Some people take many attempts before they get anything.

When you first do a regression, to a lot of people it can feel a bit like your imagination. This is partly because it is using the same part of the 'brain' that imagination uses: visualisation. It is also because any time our mind 'wanders' or 'day dreams' we have been told since childhood that this is our 'imagination' at work. But it isn't always. Sometimes it's past life memory.

However, don't worry about it too much either way. Just relax and let it come, without blocking or stopping it, even if you think you might be making it up. After a while you get better at it and it comes easier. If your mind is still getting used to the feeling of getting into a deep enough state to recall past life memories, sometimes it will cast around for images to use or things to relate to. Some people think of scenes from movies or books from the historical period for instance, because they are grasping for something their mind can relate to. After a while this starts to settle down and gets a lot easier.

Now, if you're feeling a bit topsy turvy emotionally, don't overdo it. Just take it slowly. I would think no more than once a week, or even once a month, would be ideal. You will sometimes find that you are getting more 'flashbacks' or insights in between doing a formal regression too. Things will just 'come to you'. Something will remind you of something.

Be sure you are keeping a journal of everything you come up with, especially all your thoughts and feelings about it. This forum is good, but it's also good to have a secret, private space where you can just be free to express whatever you want without anyone else's permission or judgement about it. I would even suggest this should be private from your husband, but it's up to you.

Maybe your grandma is right? Cooking is excellent therapy and very good for you and your family to make your own food at home. Cooking for yourself and your family is a very concrete act of love.

Grandma knows best! :)

How cute! I gotta see that movie .

Yesterday one thing came through to me in the regression that I feel was sort of accurate... "Mary Ellen Fisher" was my name...let the research commence. :p

Anyway I think I may start a blog and link it here so I don't keep bumping my thread.

Maybe

Hi, I feel your pain. But I do not think past life "memories" are necessarily causing your being off center. I am suffering from a mood disorder (among other things) and my hunch is that there are three main causes of any mental illness;

1) genetic predisposition to a chemical imbalance of the brain

2) childhood trauma (maybe past life ?)

3) getting old and accumulated stress!

Seems after age 50+ more and more people are getting aflicted with something

I hope you get well and my best wishes. I think meditation helps!

Thanks! :) I am sure that getting old is part of it. I'm fatter and slower than I've ever been before. But I have had this "issue" since I was a young teen.... maybe it is something I signed up for as a spiritual challenge in this life? Blah, who knows...

BTW blessing to you and hope your mood disorder gets better :)

Anyway from what I can tell in my brief visions while meditating, that I was a boring housewife in all my lives just like I am now... so I guess it probably isn't that causing my depression... or maybe that's exactly what's causing it... LOL!!!!

Welcome larali.

I believe past life issues can carry over but your depression could be caused by more mundane things like AOSpare suggested and it can be addressed using tools you have in this life. Don't stop working on it using more "mundane" things even if you're exploring your past lives at the same time.

Don't worry if you don't get good results from regression videos on YouTube. It can take time. Try other videos and methods too.

Worrying about whether your memories are real during a regression can influence what you're seeing or make you blocked. Just let it flow. The worst case scenario is that you'll imagine things and flex your creativity. Write everything down. You can verify the accuracy when you're done.

If you're afraid of seeing anything traumatic, take it at your own pace. Try to remember pleasant memories first. When you feel ready to see something traumatic or sad, don't be scared. Most regression videos and tapes tell you that you can choose to stop when you want or watch the events from another perspective.

You've said your depression and your mood can be making it harder to remember. That's fine. Take care of your health, see a doctor about a possible pregnancy and your meds. Take a break if this is stressing you out. Your health in this life comes first, your past isn't going anywhere! wine**

There's nothing wrong with bumping the thread. Put in as much as you like. It's good to have regular updates on how you are going and people find this kind of thing interesting.

As to research, I always advise caution. It's all very interesting to google things and find out that you are on the right track. But don't do too much too soon. It's far better to get as much info as you can before you start googling it.

There are a few reasons for this:

1. You will find it easier to research if you have more to go on. Just having a reasonably common name to research is not enough on its own. If you also have a town, a country and your parents' names, some idea of the year and more idea of what happened - much easier.

2. You will feel much more vindicated if what you think is right checks out. People have found some incredible stuff. You'd be amazed. But it is far more convincing for you if you remember first and google later.

3. Too much research too early can get you a bit muddled about what you remember and what you have been seeing in your research. Just get a bit more practice at regression first and don't worry about factual proof at this point. There is plenty of time for that later.

4. The important thing about all this is not proving that you are right about names, dates, places, etc. (people usually are) but to work out how you feel about it all, how it relates to your present life, what lessons are learnt, etc. etc.

I'll do another regression video after Christmas, but I couldn't help but research a bit. I found someone of interest, with the same name, born between 1853-1858 (the year I saw in my regression was 1856), in England, and some of the nearby towns names matched with what I saw. Here is an interesting thing-- I think I am distantly related to her. Her married surname is a family name of mine, although my branch was already in America during that time. I won't do any more digging around until I do another regression :D

I had a flashback of sorts when I came across a reference to "mumps" today. I don't really even know what mumps is (a disease of some sort, I suppose) but I remember when I was a small child, I played "mumps" a lot. I was also born with a large strawberry birthmark on my upper arm, where a mumps vaccination would have been.

The mumps vaccine was developed in the 1940s. My memory of being a child, in the hospital, in the 1940s may indicate that I contracted mumps and maybe got the vaccine.

For some reason even the word "mumps" feels strangely familiar to me although I have never had, nor known anyone who had this disease...

*Edit: I am wrong, the mumps vaccine was first used in 1967...

Mumps has been a dreaded disease until recently. It was another of those diseases that were better to have as a child but not as an adult. I think mumps can make post puberty males sterile. The spot on the left arm is from the small pox vaccine. Most people have that spot.

I woke up this morning with the word "Tayglenis" buzzing through my head. It seemed significant for some reason. I Googled it. It did not seem to be a word. So I tried "Tay"... there is a lake in Ireland named Lough Tay, a scenic lake on the Guinness Estate which attracts visitors. (The Guinesses were not connected to it until later.) Here is the catch. Mary Ellen lived an hour away from there at one point, with her family, at a military camp. Could it be connected or is it too much of a stretch? Maybe the family took a weekend trip to see the lake? Seems reasonable.

I think I had a life between then and now, but I keep remembering things about this particular one.

I've been trying to remember things as I'm falling asleep and in a sort of hypnotic state... I always fall asleep to soon to remember anything, but I did catch a glimpse of someone hanging laundry. (My lives were so exciting, apparently, LOL)

It could certainly be connected. It's good to follow hunches like this. You have all the information deep down. It just takes a bit of coaxing to come to the surface.

It takes a bit of practice to get into a meditative state, and still stay awake! Try doing it sitting on the couch before you go to bed. You should be comfortable, but not too comfortable to help you stay awake a little longer. Try putting an Ipod/phone or CD on with some kind of music that makes you feel relaxed, yet aware. There are all kinds of music like this available. Maybe try something with a gentle Irish theme?

The worst thing that can happen is you will feel nice and relaxed, but other images might come to you too.

Sooo sorry to bump this thread again, but I'm posting this here mainly for personal reference and so I don't forget. I thought of something today.

When I was a child (in this life) I had a crush on Frank Sinatra. I knew what he looked like and I had a "romantic" idea of him. I knew he had beautiful blue eyes and a lovely voice. Now, my parents didn't listen to Sinatra and he was super old in the 1980s when I was a kid. Maybe I saw him on TV or heard about him, but to have a "crush" on the idea of an old man is a little weird for a young child, right?

But, if I had a life as a person born around 1935-1940, which I suspect based on vague memories, then it is possible I could have been a fan of Sinatra in that lifetime!

BTW... in this life I don't even think I have heard a song by him. I am a rock and roll fan, LOL.... but I may check him out.

BTW2: In case anyone is confused, I am talking about two different lives in this thread. One where I was a child in the early 40s and the other a woman born in the 1850s.
