Sorry about the long heading, didn't know how else to put it! The heading's pretty self-explanatory, but I was just wondering if people who claim to be psychic are more likely to have remembered past lives as children, or if children who remember past lives seem more sensitive to "spiritual" things than other children. Would be interesting to have any info on this and to hear if anyone has personal experience of this.x

I remembered a previous life as a child and also had bunches of psychic experiences. I was wondering myself if those experiences are connected. I'm going to assume they are. When I thought of my past life then it was like tapping into a different kind of memory but I can't really explain how it was different. It would have to be a form of memory that wasn't physical so I was tapping into a memory contained outside my physical body (but believe it was contained in the spiritual body) and I going to assume that psychic experiences originate from outside the physical body (the spiritual body) so probably the ability to access one of those means your likely to be able to access the other abilities.

I hope that made sense. I'm operating on 1 hour of sleep here. I'll read later and edit if necessary.

I don't know if I ever had past life recollections as a child, but my boyfriend who did does not have psychic tendencies at all. However, he was very very young, and stopped speaking about his past life by the time he was about 4 years old.

Yes, I would say they are more prone, but probably most children remember something, and not all are "spiritually gifted". On the other hand there are probably children with psychic abilities but no detailed PL memories.

But being open and aware makes vivid and detailed PL experiences more likely for both children and adults, I believe. :)

I had past life memories as a child and I don't have any particular 'psychic' abilities. I do have what I consider good 'intuition' but I think this might be a function of being so 'old' and having 'been there and done that'. I have probably seen more than my share of 'ghosts' but again, I put this down to my understanding and acceptance of the 'other level of reality' (because I remember being there) rather than any psychic abilities. I am simply not afraid of these things. They don't seem mysterious to me in the least.

My personal belief is that past life recall is more about memory than anything psychic or 'otherworldly'. I think it is as natural as sunlight and that most people have some kind of past life memories, although in our culture it is mostly not understood or recognised for what it is. Perhaps people with more of an interest in spiritual matters are a bit more alert to this sort of experience and don't just ignore it or dismiss it?

Perhaps I have an above average sense of the 'spiritual' side of life. I have what I consider to be 'inklings' of other levels and layers of reality sometimes and can often feel a bit more like 'this is all an illusion' than is perhaps normal. Again, I put this down to my 'age' more than anything (and being a Pisces!).

I am not terribly interested in material things. I have no interest in wealth, fame, toys and distractions of that nature. I have seen so many people of wealth and fame come and go. I know better than most people that 'you can't take it with you'. Beyond making sure you are reasonably secure on a practical level - have shelter and food and so on - the only things of real importance are how you conduct yourself, what good you do with your life and how you relate to other people. Again, I have learned this through personal experience, not through any 'spiritual' insight as such.

Thank-you everyone for your replies. The reason I asked this question was because I am wondering if my son may have some kind of psychic ability. I know it sounds a bit far-out (past life memories AND psychic abilities! What next?!! ), but I'm just a bit curious about some things he's done/said since he was born. As a baby, he would sometimes do things like look over your shoulder and seem to be looking at something/someone that wasn't there. We'd also hear him in his room in the mornings (he would be alone in his room), laughing and babbling away like someone was keeping him amused. Then as he's got older he's done things like:-

    1. When we were talking about my friend, Charlotte, he said "Charlotte's poorly". Then I send her a text message and, when she replied, she told me she was feeling ill.

    2. He recently said "grandad's lost his money" out of the blue. I didn't have a clue why he would be saying this, so the next time I saw my Dad, I mentioned it and asked him if he'd left his wallet anywhere or anything recently. It turned out that a couple of weeks before he'd realised at work that he'd lost a £20 note and phoned my stepmum to tell her he thought he'd probably dropped it in the car park outside their house.

    3. I asked him how my mum was (she wasn't there) and he said she was "tired and wanted to go to sleep". He doesn't see her very often and it was a bit strange of him to say this, because this was during the day, and my mum works nights, so she would indeed have been tired and wanting to go to sleep at that time.

    4. He sometimes acts like he can hear someone talking to/calling him, when there's no-one there. For example, I'll be upstairs, I wont have said anything, and he'll call up the stairs "yes mummy?", like I've called him. He's done this a few times.

    5. Recently we were at home on our own and the house was quiet and he suddenly stopped what he was doing and said "what's that sound?". I listened but couldn't hear anything and then he said he heard a "lady singing".

    6. Today we were in the bath together and he started whispering and told me to be quiet because the "girl was sleeping". I said "what girl?" and he said "in the house"! I asked him if she was a grown-up lady like mummy, or a little girl like him, and he said she was a little girl. I asked him if she had short hair like him or long hair like me, and he said long hair like me. I asked him what colour and he said brown.

There's been quite a few things like this that have happened and now they've all mounted up a bit, so I'm starting to wonder if it's more than just a child's imagination. I've had some things happen during my life that have made me wonder if I have a slight psychic ability, so, if this is the case, perhaps it could be passed down the generations? I dont know. Hope I dont sound like too much of a loon !

Wow what interesting talents he has! Some of it could definitely be psychic or a bit of an intuition.

I was wondering when he said "Charlotte's poorly," the use of the word "poorly." It sounds like an old-fashioned word. Is that a common word that you guys use? Just curious.

I have a bit of something psychic myself. My younger son also did that whole looking-at-nothing bit. It creeped me out at the time, to be honest. He would look and smile and laugh at the "nothing" behind me or in the ceiling corner.

    Hi,

I think so. If anyone can remember something from a past life, then likely some of their knowledge and abilities will carry over into their current life too.

Zachary often speaks of people who are no longer alive, and who he could have only known in a past life or in spirit form. When he was really little, before he talked much, he would look up at the ceiling alot and giggle. Then later when he started talking more, he'd name people he was talking too.

I do believe though that everyone has psychic ability to some extent, and that if parents are open to past life memories, often they'll be more open to psychic ability too. I think many parents dismiss pychic phenomenon in their children the same as they may dismiss past life memories.

    Hi maulacat,

That’s interesting - thank you for sharing :)

I don’t feel it’s unusual for children to experience things considered “paranormal” while they are small - as the veil of consciousness is still very thin at that point; it wasn’t that long ago they were in spirit form themselves. :D They don’t have adult thoughts and responsibilities weighing them down, or pre-conceived notions and worries of what is “acceptable” or “right” and what is “wrong” until they start socializing and experiencing the world themselves - many kids start forgetting past lives and/or losing their spiritual "gifts" once they’re out and doing their own thing. Not to mention - kids snap in and out of altered states really quickly - it seems much easier for them to achieve than adults.

I know quite a few babies who focus on things adults do not see - or watch movement across a room and laugh and giggle at what seems to be nothing to the adult eye. ;)

Just to bring science into the mix a bit - there has been a lot of research on changing and evolving DNA within the human race - many scientists and researchers have noted the change within and many believe that a new species of human is evolving, which accounts for more people being born who remember past lives - and who hold psychic affinities such as clairvoyance.

Gregg Braden was the first to expose this in his ground breaking book Walking Between the Worlds:

Pjotr Garjajev, a Russian biophysicist and molecular biologist, and his colleagues have been carrying out cutting-edge research on the more esoteric nature of DNA - they simply did not believe what others scientists were saying - that 90% of our DNA is 'junk.' From the German book Vernetzte Intelligenz by Grazyna Fosar and Franz Bludorf (summarised and translated by Baerbel):

Some interesting food for thought ;)

    Hi all!

This is a very interesting thread, I loved reading through all your posts!

I also think that heightened awareness can affect the way both children and adults perceive reality in general, and that probably includes being able to remember past lifes, seeing "layers" of reality that we normally call "paranormal" :D and much more. I think it's perfectly natural.

The DNA theories are incredibly interesting. I would love to read more about them!

The concept of evolution reminded me of "The Celestine Prophecy" - in this book, the way we influence/raise our children (and how they influence us) is given particular importance to, as it should. Perhaps our behaviour towards them can deeply influence spontaneous genetic evolution?

Has any of you read this book? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

Thanks again to everyone for their input here, it's great to have everyone's opinions and info. Thanks for the stuff on evolving DNA/spontaneous genetic mutation, Ailish. Cant say I really understand it all , but it's certainly interesting to see that some scientific people (usually the biggest sceptics!) are acknowledging that people may actually possess the kinds of skills we're talking about. Can anyone explain to me in basic terms what spontaneous genetic mutation actually is please?

Hi alaskanlaughter. Yes, "poorly" is a word I would have used with my son previously, so he would've just copied that from me.

W.A. HEART, I think there may be a copy of that book somewhere in my house actually! My fiance read it (or some of it at least!). I'll have to talk to him and see if he's still got it, and maybe have a read of it myself ;)

Just as a P.S. to everyone, I just remembered another (potentially!) psychic thing my son did the other day - His Dad usually leaves for work before my son and I get up, so we dont usually see him in the mornings. On the day in question, this was the case (that he'd gone by the time we woke up), so I presumed he'd got up at his normal time and done his normal routine. However, he sent me a text message from work a little while later telling me that he'd been up in the night with a stomach ache and gone out to get tablets for it, etc, in the middle of the night. My son didn't see the text (and couldn't read it, even if he had!) and I didn't mention any of this to him, yet he said "deeda (which is what he calls his Dad) has a tummy ache"!

... I just remembered something a friend told me some years ago.

My friend has a daughter, and back then when she was little she was dreadfully afraid of the sea. She could not be convinced to go anywhere near it. Well, here in our part of the world we usually go to the beach every other weekend, from Spring way into Autumn. So it was quite often that she tried to get the poor thing to shake her fears of the water.

One day at the beach, after some more talking in the line of "mom's here, it's ok, nothing will happen" and so on, her kid looked at her and said "oh mom, don't you see?? Don't you see I have died here???" Poor thing.

This little girl also showed signs of having psychic abilities similar to that of your sons'. She always knew the exact moment when her dad got home, even if she wasn't there herself, among other things.....

My son began speaking of his past lives, first when he was two but we didn't 'get it' until he was 5 when he spoke more in depth.

However, from the time he was two he showed psychic abilities. Too many examples but involved knowing things he couldn't possible know, knowing what people were thinking, speaking to my grandmother who had just died.

Anyway, like many people say, kids seem to stop speaking of their past lives when they are 7. My son not only stopped speaking of his past lives but the psychic stuff stopped too.

In my opinion and personal experience yes. There are important spiritual, developmental, and soul reasons as to why some people remember one or many of their past lives. I was born with psychic (clairvoyant, clairaudient, empathic, clairsentient) abilities and have remembered many of my past lives/deaths/transitions on Earth and elsewhere since about age 5-6, with more memories surfacing throughout adulthood.

I believe very strongly that when it is time for a person to consciously carry/integrate certain higher awareness such as past life/death memories, that often other psychic abilities go hand-in-hand with it all. It's all part of the same expanded package imo.

    Forgot one thing...

About this 7 year old business. Astrologically we all experience our first Saturn square at age 7. In other words, by age 7 according to many traditions, the incoming soul is totally grounded in physicality (Saturn) by age 7 and supposedly it's at this age that karma begins.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I think all children are spiritually aware, have psychic gifts, or memories of their past lives. It seems to me that children seen as 'gifted' simply have parents who are interested in what they have to say, may help them develop that natural ability, and are less willing to chalk it up to an 'active imagination.'

Thank-you everyone for your replies, I've found everyone's comments and opinions interesting.

I agree, Blueheart. I think all children probably have psychic/spiritual abilities, perhaps to varying degrees, and that a lot of parents probably dont even pick up on it because they just think their children have vivid imaginations, or that they must have picked up the things they're saying from school, etc, etc. I know that when I speak to my friend, who's into spiritual stuff, believes in tarot, etc, she certainly thinks her daughter (who will be 4 in April) has psychic abilities. If this is the case (that we all have these abilities as children), then what a shame it is that everyday trivia usually wipes out these interesting skills/knowledge as we grow older eh ?!

I agree with Blueheart as well, but I imagine probably a bigger factor as to whether or not a child remembers a past life is whether or not there's some reason for them to be fixed on it somehow ... did something traumatic happen in that past life? Was there a violent death, any unfinished business ...? etc...

And of course, many Western children who remember past lives go unnoticed by the general population because their parents brush off or discourage any attempt to talk about them.

    psychic tendencies?

I have not been on the forum for a long time. My grandson stopped talking about his other life when he started school. He is now 7 years-old. Today we were coming home from shopping. I keep him while his mom works. He said "grandma I want to tell you something but it is between you and me only." I said okay and told him I would not tell anyone. He told me he sees spirt heads. I asked him "do you mean ghosts?" He replied no, not ghosts-spirits but just their heads and a little of their body. I asked him how long he has seen them and he said for a long time. He said it used to scare him but not anymore. I asked him if they said anything and he said no they don't say anything they just look at me-they are there and when I see them I turn around so I can't see them and when I look back they are gone. I asked if he knew any of them and he said no. His father passed away last August so I asked him if he ever saw his daddy. He said no.

During the time he was speaking of his past life he told me I rode a red motorcycle. I did years ago a red Harley full dresser. He never knew that and we have no pictures of me on or near a motorcycle. I thought I would come here to see if other children who spoke of past lives saw spirits and I found this thread. I am hoping to find the answer here.

My youngest son definitely saw something on a regular basis when he was very little. When I would hold him to feed him or rock him to sleep, he would focus on "something" up near the edge of the ceiling in the living room. He would smile and reach for it and his eyes were focused on it. Try as I might, I never sensed any presences. But it was rather creepy to watch him "watch" something that I couldn't see. That happened a lot probably before he turned one. He's now three and just said a little bit about a past life.

Hi Maulacat....your name ever so slightly bothers me, I love cats!

I think we are all spiritual beings on an earthly journey. We all have the same abilities, but use them or are aware of them to varying degrees. Young children are particularly sensitive in many ways and less grounded in this world than we adults have become.

I also think we all remember past lives, even if we think we don't. Many children and adults have what we often call natural or inate abilities or talents. In other words, they know how to do things they have never been taught in the present but must have learnt somewhere. There also has to be a reason why people are what they are as individuals. I figure each person is the sum total of all that has gone before in their present life and previous lives.

During my time as a foster carer, I observed many babies staring at someone or something that I couldn't see. Animals often do them same thing, which can be creepy especially at night. I have often wondered if any of one of us is ever truly alone. I once mentioned this to my dad and he said, "Well, I just hope whoever they are, they have the decency to look the other way when I change my underpants!"

As a child, I think I had a number of intuitive or psychic experiences, including knowing that a certain great aunt was going to send me a blue coat and matching bonnet for my birthday. When the parcel arrived, there it was, just as I had described it. It seriously spooked my mother at the time.

I think I may have had a brief out of the body experience as well when I was about four while sitting in sunlight that was streaming through the window of my playroom. I remember watching all the particles of dust 'dancing' and shining in the light and something definately happened. The experience was interrupted by mother entering and saying crossly that she had been calling me for ages. I had not heard her.

Your little boy sounds so lovely and he is obviously very intuitive or psychic right now. And you don't sound like a loon at all!

I don't know about all kids but I can tell you about my daughter Lexie. When she was about 4 or 5 she freaked out when I lit a candle. She told me we would blow up and I asked her why she would think that and she told me about when she was married with kids she and her family died in a fire. She went on to tell me all about her, her husband, their 4 kids, 2 dogs. They lived in a "wooden house" in the forest, there were neighbors nearby and they all perished in this big fire. She has so many fears at age 9 but the one thing she doesn't fear is seeing spirits all the time! She is very sensitive to the spirit world, she sees them quite clearly, or hears them, feels them, etc. So there could be a connection.

My 9 year old brother, Brett, has had an experience like this before. About 2 years ago ( so he would be 7) we were in the process of building a new house. Brett loved watching the construction after school.

One night, Brett, mom, and I were sitting in the living room... well, Brett was sleeping on the couch  Brett suddenly jumped up completely alert and into mom's lap. He staring crying badly, saying that we couldn't live in the new house. Mom and I just stared at each other quizzically. I asked him why not. He said that there was demons in there and they would hurt us. Our mom got really scared because we never talk about demons, especially in front of Brett.

I asked him what we were supposed to do with the house if we couldn't live in it and he simply said, "Burn it." Mom, being as closeminded as ever, bluntly told him that he was being rediculous and to calm down. I told her maybe we could get the house blessed. I'm not Catholic but I read a lot and am very superstitious

Sadly our family strongly discourages talk of anything paranormal, so Brett has stopped having the problems or, as i suspect, keeps them bottled up.

Thank-you for your post britishmum. I have now read your thread and found it very interesting. Definately sounds like your son has psychic abilities to me! I will post more on your thread.
