Brainwaves at the moment of death

Interesting news item, about a brainscan accidentally taken at the moment of death (the patient suffered a fatal heart attack during an epilepsy scan). It seems the brain produces signals similar to those found during memory recall or dreaming, up to 30 seconds after the heart stops beating, suggesting that maybe our life does indeed flash before our eyes as we leave our physical bodies

In my view its a highly speculative piece, promoting a particular viewpoint in the absence of any evidence.

When I say 'absence of evidence', I mean to ask, "what was the patient experiencing, if anything, during that time?". No one can say, as the patient died without saying anything.

They also talk about experiments on rat brains. None of the rats were interviewed to find out what they were thinking or experiencing - if anything.

Frankly, I don't see any way to gain anything other than physical data from experiments like this. It cannot tell us anything about what is happening to the conscious mind.
