4 year old talking about days starting over?

New Member
My mother was watching my son a few weeks ago, and he said to her that he remembered living somewhere else, in a different time, but there were no roads or cars. According to her, he described walking everywhere - using landmarks like trees, streams, and rocks for directions. And then he shut down and wouldn't talk about it anymore.

Then last week, after we had put him to bed, he came running to see me, sobbing so hard. He told me that he used to remember all of his days, but that he had started losing them. He said his heart used to hold 10 other hearts and 10 spirits, but now that he was forgetting them, his heart broke, and he had lost all 10 hearts and spirits. He told me that he had to find them all, or else his days would have to start all over again. When I asked him what that meant, he told me that he would move far away, by himself, and he would lose me, his dad, and his siblings. When I asked for more specifics, he told me he would have to die, and be born to a new family, but that he didn't want to leave ours.

I've asked him once how to get his hearts/spirits back, and he talks about a young boy spirit who has to help him go through different doors in time so he can gain his hearts/spirits back. He also asked me to not tell his daddy. When I asked why, he simply said that he wouldn't believe us, and besides, the boy spirit told him not to. (?)

The story hasn't changed, and I have no clue who the boy spirit is. How do I help put him at ease, and let him know that he won't die if he "can't remember all of his days?" And what is going on? Any and all ideas greatly appreciated.

Thank you...

Hi worriedmom

Welcome to the forum.

First of all, don't be worried. This happens a lot more than you might think. Your son will be fine.

We always recommend that people get a copy of Carol Bowman's book and read it. It contains excellent advice. Chapter one is here: Children's past lives Chapter one

Children often have past life memories, and even contact with the 'spirit world', but they usually begin to fade away by the time children reach 6 or 7 or so and they forget all about it (usually, not always).

The most important thing you can do for now is to believe what he is telling you and just accept it as fact because that's what it is, even if it seems a bit odd in our western culture. Reassure him that he doesn't have to die and maybe he will find his friends again. People tend to like to hang with their 'soul group'. They usually try to be incarnated together, but it doesn't always work out. In any case, remind him, no matter what he is sure to see them again one day so there's no need to feel sad, even though he might miss them.

When he wants to talk about it, just ask him open ended questions like 'Oh that's interesting.... what else did he tell you?' or 'Uh huh... then what happened?' and just let him talk, without pressuring him or telling him he's imagining it or lying.

Kids will often be most inclined to talk about these things when they are feeling a little drowsy and in a relaxed state, like at bed time, in the bath, or when they are driving in the car.

Please feel free to ask any questions you like. A lot of the people here have kids who have had past life memories and can give you very good advice.

wow, it gives me chills

I love to hear these stories but I admit it could be spooky for parents/relatives. My daughter is 14 and while she was younger I told her about karma and reincarnation. She told me that she knew it already! It was very matter of fact and natural up to age 7-8. Now she wants nothing to do with it, especially karma :) I guess it dissipates with age.

Teenagers don't want to be "different". She may change her mind when she is older, especially when HER kids start talking about past lives. :)

The boy spirit may be a spirit guide who talks to him about his past lives when he is dreaming. The different doors he mentions are interesting to me. Many people here use a similar technique to access their own past life memories, only they are adults, trying to recreate something that was quite natural to them when they were children.

If it were my child, and it was not a passing thing, but rather he was still afraid and still willing to talk about it, then I would remind him that he is four years old right now. That he is your baby, and you, daddy, and his siblings will be together for a long, long time. One of my daughters was very afraid for a few weeks about "losing" her family, and a few talks like this put those fears to rest.

Tell your son that it is alright to begin to forget about his other 10 hearts / spirits. Let him know that it is a bit like putting away his summer clothes or the Christmas decorations or whatever it is that he can relate to. He will forget about it for a while, but when it is time, or whenever he wants to, he can open a drawer or the box, and he can see them again. Tell him that there will always be little things that happen to remind him about them, so he does not need to worry.

I believe that you and your mother are doing the right thing, just by listening to him. If he is still concerned, then tell him you can help him to remember by writing down what he says so he can read it someday when he is older.

Best of luck!

Thank you everyone! I did read the first chapter of Carol Bowman's book, and I'll keep listening to him, and try to ask more open ended questions. I'll also start letting him know that it's ok for him to not have all his hearts/spirits. I was trying so desperately to figure out how to help him get them back!

It is so hard to hear your child talk about leaving you for another family, and we're certainly not ready to let him go. We've been keeping him in our room at night so we can help him when he has nightmares and night terrors. We just want him to know he's not alone, and he doesn't have to go through all of this by himself. It's a lot for such a little kid!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the reassurances.

Do you know what the nightmares are about? You say 'terrors'? Is it very bad? Is this the same as the fear of 'losing' his previous family/friends, or is it something else? Sometimes little kids remember their previous lives very clearly and perhaps there is something bad or scarey that happened in the past that is upsetting him?

... He told me that he had to find them all, or else his days would have to start all over again. When I asked him what that meant, he told me that he would move far away, by himself, and he would lose me, his dad, and his siblings. When I asked for more specifics, he told me he would have to die, and be born to a new family, but that he didn't want to leave our family ...
This kind of sounds like he is talking about the process of being reincarnated into a new life that he is recalling, but he is also beginning to forget, so he's finding it a bit confusing and upsetting? Again, the best thing to do is to just accept what he tells you, give him a cuddle and reassure him that he has a new life now, with a new family and that you love him and will always look after him and keep him safe.

It's a lot for such a little kid!
Don't worry too much. Kids are very resilient, as long as he feels loved and safe, he'll be fine.

He has told me that some of the nightmares are about a bad ghost leading him through the wrong doors and he has to die when that happens. He can't tell whether or not the ghosts are good or bad, just that some are good and some are bad, and just like people, they can change, too. A bad ghost can become a good one, and vice versa.

The terrors are just classic night terrors - he's screaming, crying, thrashing around, but when he wakes up, he has no memory of any of that going on. We just try to keep him from hurting himself when he's so active. I had them as a kid, my other kids all had them... I figure it's just hereditary.

It does sound to me like he remembers the process of being reincarnated, but if he is going to go through with it again, I want it to be in 80-90 years or so. ;)

Thank you! :)

Night terrors can be something that happened in a past life. Does he ever talk or say anything when this is happening? You can ask him open ended questions but if he doesn't remember that probably won't work. If he ever says anything that could be past life related at any time, not just during these episodes, write it down in a journal.

Welcome worriedmom,

May I ask how old is your son now? If you feel you need more assistance with your son, you can contact Carol Bowman directly.

In her first book she has a whole chapter on Night Terrors.

You might also find it useful to read up about the 'life between life' phase of existence. That way you might be able to answer some of his questions, or help him interpret what he is remembering and how it all fits together with this life.

We know a bit about the process from people who have done regressions and remembered their experiences. The experience is similar, but individual (a bit like life). People describe being in a timeless, weightless, spaceless state, where their consciousness is much broader and deeper but it is still 'themselves'. Most people describe this as a very delightful state. People describe doing a 'life review' where they look over their previous life and examine what went right, what went wrong, what they learned, what they would do differently and so on. If they have harmed others, they usually feel very regretful about this.

After a certain period of time, when the time is right (it seems to vary) they are summoned by the 'elders' or 'guides' who seem to run things up in 'heaven'. People are usually offered a choice of several lives they would like to experience next. After some thought and discussion, a choice being made - they are born again.

Dr Brian Weiss specialises in this and has written some books about it. He's a trained psychiatrist by profession, and it is a relatively common practice to get patients to 'regress' to childhood, hoping to recover memories that relate to present life issues and anxieties. Like a lot of practioners in this area, he was at first surprised then sceptical when his patients started talking about past life experiences, and even between life experiences, under hypnosis. He thought it must be some kind of fantasy or dream. But he eventually came to the conclusion that it was perfectly real when so many people independently told him such similar stories about the 'between life'. Take a look at his web page to get the general idea. http://www.brianweiss.com/

Hi just wanted to pop in and see if your son has had any more experiences. Since I read this post, the following has stayed with me:

" He told me that he used to remember all of his days, but that he had started losing them. He said his heart used to hold 10 other hearts and 10 spirits, but now that he was forgetting them, his heart broke, and he had lost all 10 hearts and spirits."

There is just something so beautiful and poetic about that phrasing "his heart used to hold 10 other hearts and spirits"....chills. in a good way. It is amazing what the little ones say!

THere is the phenomena called womb twins.. I myself had one whose relationship affected me deeply. Apparently Elivs Presley mourned his twin for ever.

A mother may be carrying twins but the one is absorbed in utero early on in life. My twin sister I feel left me alone in the womb after one month and I as that soul in utero was very aware of her leaving me ..

Our personal karma made that relationship very very important and lead to many ways of coping for our loss of each other in the present. .. both of us searching for reattachment in this world .. BUt since it was not a possiblity to find each other in person , we made a point of a soul contact when possible .

As children we are more aware of these contacts . Perhaps your child is experiencing something similar ? ..
