6 month old frightened of his great aunt

Something interesting happened to my mom. At the time, she was living in an independent senior living community and was 75 years old. Her sister, niece, and her grand nephew (6 months old) visited one day. The niece (the baby's mom) was holding him as they walked into the three-story building. As soon as they entered the building, he became agitated and fussy. This building is really a large apartment building for seniors and is new, clean, and very nice. So there wasn't anything as far as that goes that might agitate him. If it stopped there, that's not a big thing at all. But be became more and more agitated as they approached my mom's apartment on the second floor. Then when my mom greeted them and invited them all in to her apartment, the 6 month old started screaming and thrashing and they could not calm him down. When mom got near him he'd scream even more. His diaper had been changed. He'd been fed. He was dressed appropriately for the weather, so he probably wasn't excessively hot or cold. The place isn't nursing-home or hospital like, so they don't think it had to do with any smells. He simply would not calm down. I was told he turned red in the face from crying and screaming so much and they were all very concerned about him. So they left and apologized to my mom and said he was just cranky and sleepy and had been out too long and needed a nap. I suppose that might be true. But why was he fine up until going to see my mom? And why didn't he calm down after a bit with his own mom soothing him? Also my mom is very normal looking, so there's no way her looks would frighten him. It couldn't even be her gray hair and glasses because the little guy regularly visits another great aunt of his who also has gray hair and glasses. Just wanted to share because I thought this was a very interesting story. Any thoughts out there?

Your baby is young, I would think back to who in your circle has passed and how their connection to your Great Aunt was. Other than that, I would just wait and see. The issue could have been the building as well, maybe it brought back memories ...

A Young Child's Fear of his Aunt ...or something

When my cousin's child was about 6 months old, he went to visit his great aunt (my mom) at her independent living apartment complex. His mom was carrying him and was going to visit my mom with a couple other family members. He was being a normal 6-month old until they got inside the building. He became agitated as soon as they walked through the front doors, which isn't that big of a deal. But then they got on the elevator to go to my mom's 2nd floor apartment, and the closer they got to my mom's front door, the more agitated and upset he became. Then when my mom answered the door and everyone entered her apartment, the 6-month old began crying and screaming so hard that his little face turned red. He was used to visiting other people (friends, family, etc) so it wasn't that he was scared of other people. And my mom is a normal looking 70+ year old woman. The little one had been around older folks too, so he had seen gray hair, glasses, etc...His mom felt really bad because this was the first time my mom had met the little guy. They didn't want to hurt her feelings, so they just said he was being cranky and hadn't had his nap. None of this was true however. He had been just fine before entering the apartment building. I thought it was interesting and couldn't help but wonder if it had anything to do with a past life related to my mom. The apartment building was an independent living facility, not an assisted living and not a nursing home. So the smells weren't different than what he would have probably experienced before. Otherwise I thought maybe that could have had something to do with it. Anyway, just wanted to share.

Very interesting. Was this recent? If not, how old is he now? Hard to tell when they can't talk, but it could be past life or maybe something else. Interesting he became agitated before getting inside and seeing your mother. Like he was able to sense something.
