I have gone through several phases in my life 'separated' by a mental block of 'forgetfulness.' At the age of 18, I had friends from my neighborhood come up to me and claim we had shared "OBE's" in the past. Since I had no memory of it - I didn't know. They said that I had 'taught' them how to do it.
Then around the age of 20, old habits started to come to the surface again. I moved to a new city and I eventually started showing up in some new young friends 'bedrooms' at night - and showed them the reality of 'spiritual communique' without one person having to 'die' to achieve a message from a 'living spirit.' (My argument was that the spirit is alive in the body prior to death. According to the 'ghosts' of my friends, it was something we were doing together prior to their death. It wasn't anything new to me - even though I couldn't recall the past experiences.)
Then again, in 1986 - I convinced a friend from Seattle of the reality of communicating with one another via - OBE. In my adult life, I had a desire to show other people that you could communicate with the 'spirit' of a departed loved one, to verify my testimony of contact with the spirits of my friends who had passed over. In 1994, the death of a friend put an end to my OBE's and started a new phase of total forgetfulness. Now, I am in the phase of recollection and reflection and I am amazed that I could forget so much 'mystical and spiritual' experiences.
At this point in my life - I wouldn't be able to write, share or communicate any sort of instructions on the steps to make it happen. (It is not something I do in my old age. ) It was something I learned to do at the age of six and it just came naturally to me when I was a child. For me, it became a way to validate my testimony to close friends about my 'near-death' experiences. I would tell them, "I don't have to die to send my spirit out at night while my body is sleeping."
There are instructions I do recall now. I always got them to give me consent to show up so they would be expecting my 'spirit.' We always had a test laid out because I knew that when they woke up in the morning - doubt would do a tap dance on their head. So, we would set up test questions where we didn't know the answers to the others question. Many of my friends claimed I taught them, but I don't look at my spirit and myself as one and the same. I felt it was something 'my spirit' taught my friends while my 'body and mind' was sleeping in a bed at home. (Being a child of the world was one thing, being a 'child of light' was another. To get out the body, I had to take off the 'worldly mask' and shed the worldly identity.)
The only 'danger' I am aware of now - is warning my friends not to talk about our 'secret' to the wrong minds - or they would be looked at with superstition from some in the world and accused of being a 'warlock' in league with the 'devil' himself.
I have one memory of going OBE with a friend and we encountered the 'critters' (or dark spirits.) He got all scared because he wasn't used to the sight of them. I just laughed because I knew they couldn't harm you when your not in the body - other than through intimidation. I am under the impression now that they only feed upon the 'dark energy' that is produced though a physical body. I showed my friend how to treat them like 'stray' dogs and show them who was boss. The trick was the same as being in a body. Just laugh. They hate the sound of joy. If they are 'persistent' in approaching you - I would just 'whistle' a spiritual tune that was a beacon call to the light - and the "Light of Creation" would echo that silent and unpronounceable name of Creation off my spirit - and those 'things' would leave skid marks trying to clear a path.
I can recall telling my friends they had to 'say' a poem outloud for the sake of consent and protection. I wasn't religious back then so I didn't use words that would reflect religion. Most the time, the fellows didn't understand what it was they were saying. I would tell them, "In plain English, it means you are asking for God to cloak you with a shield of invisible protection." With that in mind, I never felt or encountered any danger. I always felt God had a watchful eye on me (as a child) and learned not to worry about it. When I was a child, I always had to have a 'pure motive' or sincere intentions. I would always state to spirit (in an effort to get permission) that I had in mind to help my friends learn the 'true reality' and help forge a path for my friends to have an intimate relationship with their Creator.
My attitude as a child and young adult was - to put God first in all matters pertaining to spirit. I felt that if I slipped out of my 'body' at night and got into some sort of 'trouble' and made a mess of it - then the burden of responsibility fell on my shoulders and I had to pay the consequences. If, (on the other hand) I put God first in the matter - then - what ever happened from it - the burden of responsibility fell on God's shoulders and I was just along for the ride. So, with my friends, I felt I was just playing a role of messenger because there was always some sort of 'divine' message I was to pass on to my friends pertaining to their own faith, hope and path to an intimate relationship with their Creator. As a child and young adult - I never looked at it as something I did for myself as much as it was something I was involved with on behalf of the 'higher truth' and helping those I cared about find a path to that 'higher truth' I had been blessed to witness in my growing years.
So, my answer to your question is - without God by your side - it is possible there could be a 'dangerous' element involved as with all things in life. But, with God by your side - no worries.
Sincerely,
DKing
