Can We Reincarnate Into The Same Family?

Listening...
In her book, Return From Heaven, Carol reveals how common it is for relatives to reincarnate into the same family—grandfathers return as their own great-grandsons, uncles return as their own nieces, mothers switch places with their daughters, and children who died tragically young sometimes return to the same mother.

Return from Heaven is based on direct observation of very young children—some as young as two and still in diapers. Its many true stories follow typical American families as they are convinced by their toddlers’ statements and behaviors that the child is remembering the past life of a departed relative.
Forum Responses from Carol:
"Sometimes when a deceased family member is about to return to the family, he will appear in dreams and announce, either directly or symbolically, that he is coming back. Then, when the baby is born, the mother or other family members will look in the newborn's eyes and "see the soul" of the relative.

As the child gets older, there are other indications too--through statements and behaviors. There can also be birthmarks relating to the deceased." ~Carol

I'm very excited to see the new website. I've been looking forward to this book for about four years now, and the preview is tantalizing indeed!

I notice that Carol draws upon the work of Michael Newton for her chapter on the inter-life state. I'm currently reading Newton's book "Destiny of Souls." In it, he says: "The former bodies we had in prior lives are almost never genetically related to our current family." (Page 137.) This seems to conflict with Carol's findings. Any comments?

Hi Everyone,
I just want you to know that I pop in to visit the forum from time to time. Now that I've stopped writing (for a while), I feel like spending more time in front of the screen--and the forum.

I wanted to jump in on this question:

Same-family reincarnation cases are NOT rare. The more I talk to people and explain what my new book is about, the more cases I hear. Dr. Stevenson also has hundreds of same-family cases in his files--some of them are published and can be found in any of his works. I would say that he'd agree that they're not rare at all, especially in certain cultures. (I talk about this in the new book.)

Michael Newton is working with adults in regression therapy. He is not working with children's spontaneous cases, and probably doesn't hear about too many. I do and I hear about same-family cases every day. In fact, when I read Michael's statement about the rarity of these cases, I was surprised that he would make a blanket statement about the phenomenon, especially since that's not his specialty. Let's face it: no one has the whole picture anyway. So it would have been more accurate for him to say that HE rarely sees them.

I have regressed hundreds of adults in the past l2 years and I have rarely seen anyone get the same information about the interlife state as his clients do. I have talked to other past life therapists too who agree with me. That doesn't mean that his observations are not true, real, or correct. It just means that he might be using different methods than the rest of us or he has a unique window on the phenemonen.

After saying all of this, I hope that I've avoided making sweeping statements of truth in my new book. You'll all have to give me your feedback on that when you read it.

I really appreciate all of the active members of the forum who help each other and continue to probe these mysteries. That's what Steve and I hoped would happen.

Best to you all,

Carol Bowman

Friends,
Look at Michael's statement more closely. He says "The former bodies we had in prior lives are almost never GENETICALLY related to our current family." In other words we can be brother and sister in one lifetime, then husband and wife in another lifetime, but there may be no genetic connection between the two lifetimes. I know that my father and I have been related in previous lifetimes, but there doesn't have to be any GENETIC connection between that lifetime and this one.

I see no reason why two people or a group of people can't be related in many, many lifetimes, but choose completely different genetics each lifetime. So, maybe my father was my brother last lifetime as Kalahari bushmen (I'm giving an example, not known facts), and this lifetime we are father and son in the U.S. So, we're still related but with completely different genetics.

Carol, thanks for sharing your perspective on Michael's research. I find some of his information fascinating and insightful and other info makes no sense to me. It's good to be reminded that no matter how much insight any of us might have into the vastness of spirit realm, we're still only catching a glimpse of infinity.

Hi everyone,
Bruce asked why I referred to Michael Newton's findings in my new book if I don't always agree with what he's saying. I refer to his work because it's so widely read right now, and some of what he says agrees with other past life therapists, including Joel Whitton and Helen Wambach. In the chapter, "Choosing A Life," I refer to the research of these therapists to discuss the issue of choice. Actually, I briefly mention Michael Newton's work when it agrees with the other therapists, and I mention that his view is slightly different than the others'. I rely most heavily on the late Helen Wambach's group regression data which she published in LIFE BEFORE LIFE in the 70's. (Great book, but out-of-print.) You'll see when you read the chapter that it's really an overview written for the purpose of explaining why there can be same-family cases: because during past life regression some people remember planning their current incarnations. I know there's other information out there on this topic, but I chose to use the sources I did so the chapter wouldn't get too complicated and long.

Also, I cite what Dr. Stevenson found: same-family cases are common among the Burmese, the Igbo of Nigeria, the Gitksan of British Columbia, and the Tlingit of Alaska. He says that in these cultures same-family cases are "the rule rather than the exception." Interesting, huh?

And, to clarify something else: all of the cases in the new book are of people who die and return to the same family within the generation of the survivors. In other words, there is a genetic connection between incarnations. (Check out the "Return From Heaven" intro at the website.)

I can't wait for you all to read the book! It's to strange to be in this waiting period after putting so much work into it.
