First Regression?

Hi there,

Last night I believe I was successfully hypnotized for the first time. I used one of Brian Weiss' hypnosis CDs. I had never tried anything like it before. I waited until the early morning, when I was becoming quite tired, so that I could relax fully.

Almost immediately I was struck by the power of his voice. I found myself relaxing very quickly as he gave his instructions. Then, as he began counting down from 10 to 1, I experienced very strange and overwhelming feelings. It seemed a combination of complete relaxation, being assimilated into the darkness around me, and almost a feeling of floating. I remember thinking, "Oh god, it's happening," and almost wanting to fight it, but I managed to let go.

He told me to select a certain time in history and go there. I was drawn to mountains. I saw myself standing in sandals and a cloth tunic near a small mountain village. However, I was unsure whether this was just my imagination or not. Then an image suddenly overcame it - the image of a tiger creeping through a forest. I realized I was hunting the tiger - there was an old fashioned rifle in my hand and I was wearing a pith helmet. I felt very serious, and almost cruel. I realized I had had a very strict upbringing. I was aware that I was very serious with my wife and never showed her any love.

There was also a brief flash of a life in America, during which I was an upper class man and my girlfriend in this life was one of my servants!

When the hypnosis ended I was still very relaxed and had flashes of stuff as I fell quickly to sleep. In all honesty, I have no idea if what I saw was just my imagination or not. But I do know that the CD made me achieve a profound level of relaxation.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Perseus, thanks for sharing, and congratulations on your first successful regression :)

Sometimes it can be difficult to differentiate a real past life memory from your imagination. Just let the images surface in your mind, and try not to dwell on them too much, and then start a journal and write every experience down. Soon you might be able to join the dots and find a pattern in everything that you've seen.

I hope your good results will motivate you to try again.

Chris :)

Hi There Perseus and Welcome to the Forum! Like Chris, Congratulations on this succesful regression.

Now if I was you, I would personally watch my dreams and/or meditations to see if anything else bubbles to the surface as concerning these revelations. How much of the time we just get a brief snippet of something with other snippets coming at various other times as days go by.

Thanks a bunch for sharing and Wishing You the Best!

Hi Perseus and thank you for sharing.

You're certainly not alone in wondering if your memories are actually memories or just the work of a vivid imagination. However, I do remember Brian Weiss himself saying that he tells his clients before their sessions to not worry about whether or not what their experiencing is made up or not. Just let whatever comes come. Often people later find out that many of the things that they thought they'd made up checked out with varifiable facts.

In my view the reason why past life memories sometimes can feel like 'imagination' is that imagination is largely built upon our 'subconscious' which in my view is just another label for past life memories. So when we 'conjour something up' in our imagination, it may actually be that we are really remembering something from a past life.

Have you ever visited a place, like a foreign city, and just been able to stand in the street and imagine exactly how it would have looked 200 years ago? Seen the horse drawn carts and heard the smelt smells, and felt the dust? Just allowed yourself to 'daydream' when reading something in a book or hearing a piece of music that made you feel all nostalgic or homesick and you don't know why?

Most people would describe this type of 'mind wandering' as imagination or daydreams, but perhaps there is an alternative explanation?

A basic rule of thumb though, to tell the difference between the experiences, is that it 'feels' real. You usually have at least three senses engaged in a memory; smell, feel, hot, cold as opposed to usually only visual in an act of pure imagination.

Past life memories are usually just something quite 'ordinary' and every day sort of moments, but multifaceted and somehow important or profound for that particular life journey. I like the way you describe stalking a tiger (noting little details, like you were wearing sandals and a pith helmet - which says India to me) and at the same time worrying about your relationship with your wife. If you were imagining that, it would be more like a movie, wouldn't it? It might be a bit more of an idealised sort of experience, without reference to what your internal dialogue about your wife was at the time?

Think back to your present life memories. What is your earliest childhood memory? You can remember what you were doing, what you were thinking, if it was night and day, hot or cold, etc. and what your context was for that moment - who all the people were, etc. Now, remember back to playing a game as a child, like pretending to be a superhero. These are similar but different mental process. The general 'feeling' that goes with a memory as opposed to a fantasy is usually much deeper and richer and more emotionally charged.

Good luck with your explorations. You have made an excellent start. Can't wait to hear what comes up next.

It is wise at this point to start keeping a journal and writing down little 'snippets' as they occur to you, make drawings and diagrams of things you might see, even if it is only in stick figures. You can sometimes look back over this stuff years later and be flooded by the full memory and it's context, pieced together from these little things.
