Gypsy?

The Constant Companion
Hello everyone, I'm new and this is my first real post other than the introduction one I did about what I do. :) Anyway, today I had my first kind of breakthrough in a PL regression. I listened to a recording, and haven't had anything come through before, but today I did. The only thing is, it was something I totally wasn't expecting and I'm wondering if it was legit, or if I may have made it up. I know you really wouldn't be able to tell 100%, but you may know more than I would.

In my memory, I was a 12 year old boy and the year that came to mind was 1905. The recording had me look at my reflection and I looked in a pond or lake. I had curly, black, medium length hair and dark skin. I remember wanting to laugh and hit the water, but I didn't because I wanted to see what I looked like. I had a father, mother, and an older sister I felt very close to. We were in/near a grove of some sort, and it was hard to see because it was dark out, but there were a lot of smaller bonfires and one huge one. I saw a lot of trees nearby, but not by the big fire. I could see a lot of wagons in the firelight, some brightly colored and some not. I remember seeing one red one that stood out to me. I think it was my sister's wedding and everyone was dancing and my father was fiddling with a few other men. I remember being very happy and also very happy for my sister. (I feel like her name started with a V, it almost seemed Russian to me. My name was Jakoba, pronounced Yahkoba.) I was watching her dance and I saw one of my friends, another boy. He had a terrible harelip. I remember wondering what it was like to lick my lips with a harelip like that and wanting to poke it. :P

The next thing that came up was my death. I was in the woods and it was daytime out, the sun was out and it was warm. All I remember is somehow being shot in the stomach and being in a lot of pain. No one was there and I felt so sad that I wouldn't see my sister again. I wanted to cry (my actual self) and I could see myself curled up on the ground, holding my stomach and groaning in agony. This is interesting to me because my whole life I've had terrible stomach aches. Usually in the morning, and they last for a few minutes then go away. Sometimes I get them at random times and I have to stop whatever it is I'm doing and wait for it to pass.

One other thing. While the regression was happening, I had a flash to another memory, not connected with this one. I was on the front of a wagon, in the middle of what seemed like a huge dry field, with little vegetation, but some dry grass and a lot of dirt. I was wearing a yellow dress and a bonnet and all I remember thinking is how hot it was and I hate wearing these stupid dresses. Pants are so much cooler! It's so unfair. Then it jerked back to the other one.

Tell me what you think please. I know next to nothing about gypsies or nomads, and that's the only think of for what the first one was. I don't know where they lived or anything, and I have no idea why I got the impression that my sister's name was Russian. Is Jakoba Russian? Sorry it's so long!

Hi Allerleirauh

Welcome to the forum and congratulations. No, that's not long!

That sounds very much to me like a genuine past life memory. It has all the elements - detail, emotion, sounds, dirt, realism, understanding what is going on and who all the people are etc. It is unusual for our imagination to make us feel like crying, isn't it? It is not unusual, on the other hand, for memories of sad things from this life to make us feel like crying though, is it? Past life memories are just that - memories. They are just a bit harder to get at than present life ones for most people. That's the only difference.

Also, you seem to have carried a physical issue through from that life. This sort of work can help you with addressing those sorts of things. I assume you have already had it checked out by a doctor though to discount an actual, treatable problem with your stomach?

Interesting to have another memory within that memory. I wonder what the connection might be? Perhaps the wagon somehow reminded you of the gypsy life?

Trust your impression that your sister was Russian - it is usually correct when we just 'know' things in these situations. There were many Gypsies in Russia, and indeed throughout Europe, especially before the war. They have always been somewhat persecuted, but more so during the war.

There is a discussion we have been having recently here about how you can tell the difference between a memory and imagination (it is something that comes up fairly regularly!)

Good luck with your explorations. Welcome to an exciting new experience.

Hi Allerleirauh!

How exciting! :D I agree with Tanguerra that it sounds like a genuine past life memory. I'm not an expert on gypsies, but I can confirm that especially in the Eastern European countries there were many before WWII. I also find it interesting that your stomach pains in this life could correlate to your memory of being shot. Do you have any idea who did it?

I found this older thread that may be of interest: Gypsy life and culture

Hello ,

THat sounds like a memory to me.. the fact that you have an age and a date.. I myself find the age and my previous gender the first thing I usually recall.

It would be interesting and possibly cathartic for you to do another regression and find out why you were shot. Often we are in such shock if it is unexpected that we want to remain in denial of the reason/ people behind it... IT is through coming to terms with your historical context that you may even find your stomach pains diminish.. Wouldn't that be something :cool.

Jacoba has its origins in Hebrew language in my googles.. You could try googling the name and see if the gypsies used it.. Sometimes we get these impressions , like your sisters name being Russian. I would go with that.. even though it feels a bit odd. We often identify alot with our nationality and in more time with further regression work around this it will become more clear.

For me the details did not come all at once. I can't tell yet whether it was because I was timid about my beliefs , or maybe their was a deeper reason for the memories to come to me slowly over several years. Soul development is gradual.. a lesson in patience for me..

Thank you for responding! This is my first regression that produced a result, so I was a little weirded out by it. :)

tanguerra: I have gone to the doctor and I don't have anything medically, although they did say it could be related to stress. It started when I was pretty young and it got worst around high school. And that's an interesting point about the wagon possibly being the connection! Also, thank you for that link. :)

Sunniva: I don't have any idea of who shot me. I'll try and concentrate on that next time, maybe I'll see someone. But I had the distinct feeling of no one being there.

Thank you as well for your link!

soulfriendly: I'm going to try to do some research on Gypsies in 1905, and possibly in the region of Eastern Europe. I'll post what I may find.

Also, another thing I forgot to mention yesterday. The reason I thought it was my sister's wedding is that after a while, a group of people grabbed my sister and carried her and another man over to a wagon. There was a lot of laughing a fake shouts of protest from my sister and the other man. They pretty much shoved them in the wagon and all stood around it. I knew they were going to have sex, and I found the thought hilarious. I wasn't allowed near the wagon, though I could hear what was going on. There was much laughter coming from the group of men (they were all men) by the wagon. When I still think about it, I want to laugh, I think it's so funny. :-D

That does sound like a genuine memory because of the details you can recall. You were able to vividly paint the scene so that I could see it in my mind quite clearly.

I've had dreams that I believe might be past life memories, and those dreams also involve being in the woods in what I felt was Russia, and losing a sibling. I don't think I was a gypsy, however, and my sibling was older. I wonder if it is possible that the two stories are connected by an actual historic event?

I've never looked much into my own dream, as I'm not really all that interested in Russia (no offense to anyone who is fond of Russia, it's just not a country that has captured my attention, but for a few of the dreams I've had), but I'd actually be interested to learn a bit about it.

Maybe your first memory invoked the other memory because of the appearance of the wagons?

Hi Allerleirauh, Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your memories. To me they seem to have all of the characteristics of past life memories. It is very exciting when memories begin to flow rapidly and vividly. Speaking for myself when this happens, I think it is best to let it all soak in and keep a journal or dairy in which I describe as much as possible about what I remember. Even very small details may later turn out to be very important. I don’t worry too much if some things don’t make sense or if I am unsure about other issues. I have found that in time things seem to become clearer.

As to your name and that of your sister, I did some very quick research on the Romani \ Roma People (aka Gypsies) and from what I could see it seems quite common for many Romani to have first names similar to the majority culture in which they live (e.g. Romani in England have English names, those in Russia have Russian names etc).

I hope you keep us informed about your discoveries. I have really enjoyed reading what you have found thus far.

I don't have any idea of who shot me. I'll try and concentrate on that next time, maybe I'll see someone. But I had the distinct feeling of no one being there.
It might have been a simple accident? You say you were out in the woods? It might have been a stray bullet from a hunter perhaps?

They definitely sound like real PL memories. I've always been interested in gypsies, wanderers and similar peoples. I'm glad you had such good results from a recording. :) Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.

Hi again Allerleirauh!

Like the others have said, I also think that what you have described are past life memories indeed. I love the detail! It's really great that you were able to get such good results from your regression!

I also find your sister's wedding memories hilarious - it's amazing when a PL memory makes you laugh, I think!

Keep us posted - I'm curious to see how those fragments piece together!

Oh and one last thing - your post wasn't long! You should see mine!

Thank you all for the encouragement! :) I'm glad the wedding scene made you guys laugh, it still makes me giggle thinking about it. Hehe.

Anyway, I've done some research, but am not finding much. Like Alexnovo, I've found that Roma did in fact take names from many cultures and kind of gave them a twist. They had a lot of Russian and Romanian. Many gypsies lived in Eastern Europe and they were very pursecuted throughout Europe. Also, there are very few reliable records on population of Romani. True nomadic Roma saw a decline beginning in the early 1900's and many of them started to kind of settle down, but still travel.

1905. Alfred Dillmann's Zigeuner-Buch appears in Germany. This consists of three parts; an introduction which presents the arguments for controlling Roma, a register, 310 pages long, of over 5,000 Roma, including name, date and place of birth, genealogy and kinship, criminal record and so on, and lastly a collection of photographs of Roma and Sinti from various police files. The introduction maintains that the German people are "suffering" from a "plague" of Roma, that they are "a pest against which society must unflaggingly defend itself," and that they "must be controlled by the police most severely," being "ruthlessly punished" when necessary. The notion of the particular dangers of mixed Romani and white individuals, whom Dillmann considers to constitute almost the entire Roma population, resurfaces in the Nuremburg Laws in 1935. These racially-motivated statements also support the Zigeuner-Buch's emphasis on the Romani genetic tendency toward criminal behavior.

If I could find a copy of this register, maybe I could find me!

The only thing that confuses me is that the name Jakoba is femanine. It's the Hebrew female version of Jakob. That's the only thing I've found on that though.

I found out something about the name Jakoba! I was talking to a friend who speaks Russian and he said that yes, Jakob is the masculine form, but Jakoba could be diminutive and could be used as a nickname. This would make sense since the context I heard it in the regression was my mother yelling. :P

So I found something else of note. Well, other than the fact that I'm having a hard time finding anything helpful that is. Romani are decidedly hard to research. :/

Anyway, in my regression, I had seen an extremely ornately carved wooden door. It wasn't really connected to anything, it was the part of the regression where I was supposed to picture a door of an important color and then you walk through it into the memory. Well, the one I had pictured was dark brown stain, kind of heavy, and full of carvings all over. I was fingering it, just feeling it. I wanted to stay and see what was carved on it, but the recording prompted me to walk through it, so I did. Well in what I've found, most turn of the century Romani wagons were heavily carved as apposed to painted as I thought. It turns out the painted ones became popular later. I don't know for sure, but perhaps the one I had pictured was the one from my wagon? Who knows!

Allerleirauh, Very interesting. You are having great results. I know the CD you are referring to (that asks you to picture a door). I am glad you are having such good results with it. I wonder if the carvings on the wagon can be traced to a particular time and/or place where the Romani people lived.

As you say it may be very hard to get concrete validation due to the lack of records on many Romani peoples. But you might be able to tie it to an era and location. Even if not, you are regaining your memories and, for me, that is the most important thing.

Keep at it, and keep us posted.

Very interesting Allerleirauh! :) I'm also thinking that you might be able to use the carvings to find further validations  Keep us updated!

Well, I haven't had any more memories come up in a PL regression, but I fouond some more information about romani weddings.

The informal, joyous festivities celebrating the marriage can go on for several days. A huge feast is served on these happy occasions. There is sometimes an open fire over which whole pigs, sides of beef, game, chicken, or goose are roasted. If it is available, hedgehog may be served, although this traditional dish has fallen from favor in recent times. There might be huge platters of fried potatoes and boiled cabbage stuffed with rice and chopped meat, with herbs and garlic. Drink, too, is served as generously. Musicians play traditional rhythmic tunes and there are songs and dances.

I also found out that it is common for the groom and his friends to "abduct" the bride from her unmarried friends. Perhaps that's what I had seen when my sister and her husband were carried off?

Allerleirauh, It definitely sounds like your memories fit with what you have discovered about Romani wedding traditions. This is very exciting. As to not getting any new memories recently, all I can say is that I have found that memories seem to come in waves. I go through periods where memories seem to flood in, then there are times when they slow down. I have learned to just relax and take them as they come and not get upset when they stop as I know they will begin again. Sometimes I wonder if it is part of my subconscious mind that regulates this flow, basically giving me time to absorb what I have learned. That is just me thinking there.

The attached files are pictures of wagons similar to what I was seeing. Some were colorful, others weren't. I've noticed that when the wagons or vardo are painted, red and green are common colors. What stood out to me the most was the intricate carving on the wagons. Look at how beautiful the carving and scrollwork is!

Who would know that the woodworking is so elaborate, as they are often protrayed as "simple" people without alot of work ethic. But that looks like a lot of work to me.

And isn't that wonderful to have your memory confirmed. I had one of my memories confirmed by a living person who I saw interviewed on the TV. That really hit me hard as it was something that had not made alot of sense. I burst into tears sobbing, falling to the ground { I was as well more emotionally fragile suffering from depression back then mind you } But still I am surprised at how amazing it was to have had that memory when it was something I would not have known about. I later read the same thing in a book and continue to read it with awe--- ie that I actually did and do remember and know I did live in the past.

Keep us posted what else comes up in your regressions . Have you seen any connections yet between the two lives you mentioned .. on a wagon?? I find that putting these pieces together to weave the connections I have had with the different people in my lives helps me to understand the parts of me that need to break free of dysfunctional and defeating patterns.

Oh - no, no! The gipsy culture is extremely intrincate and ancient! I think what happened is - there was no way their culture could survive the challenges of modern life unharmed. It is true, though, that the gipsies are often portraid as you say, Soulfriendly. But in fact - their music, art work, belief system - is nothing short of amazing - and complex!

Allerleirauh - what wonderful validation..!

I could not agree more.

Allerleirauh, You are having great results and I am so happy that you are keeping us up to date as you learn about your past.

Thanks for your comments. I could have said "Sadly they are portrayed as simple " .. I love the music of Jango Reinhardt, { at least when I am feeling well enough to dance } I did not know of their art . Just continues to prove to me the importance of studying history as people's attitudes can be so changed by attitude.

The gypsies would have shared in my pain in my time in the concentration camps in WWII as they also were brutally discriminated against. May they find their peace and return to their roots with joy.

Allerleirauh, thanks for sharing your story and these wonderful details. I've been following with interest. Those wood-carving details are AMAZING! Please continue to keep us updated.

Soulfriendly, I Youtubed the musician you mentioned, Jango, and his music is wonderful! He's incredibly talented on the guitar.
