Looking for insight on ADD and Past life issues

This is just an inquiry. I'm wondering if anyone has any information, or guidance about where I can further investigate the role of a past life might manifest in children that display ADD-type behavior - and the possible connection of the two.

Does anyone have an insight on how to reach a child who doesn't seem to perceive and experience daily interactions (social and academic) accurately or appropriately?

This is not an extreme case. In fact it's ordinary. I'm just trying to reach my daughter. She's moody, and extremely defensive. She has little awareness of her actions and almost zero accountability. Perhaps this is not the proper forum, I just thought there might be someone out there who had some insight. Thanks!

I was diagnosed with ADD in the 2nd grade. I was put on Ritalin and made to see a neurologist until I was well into college.

My parents always took extra interest into making sure I was successful in school. Every day after school and on the weekends I had a mandatory 2 hour study time, where I would be required to sit in a chair and read from my textbooks if other homework was done. My mother would then orally quiz me on what I had read.

This happened all they way through school. I also had to have all of my homework written down in a notebook and signed by my teachers every day so that my parents would make sure that I was doing the assignments.

I went off to college at 18, and did well for the first semester. After that, I turned into a horrible student. I never studied, skipped classes all the time, and failed out twice. This was a sharp contrast to my performance in high school, where I was actually in the Gifted/Talented program.

I went off the Ritalin on my own midway through college, and everything got better. The Ritalin made me moody and angry all the time, and once I was off of it my head seemed to clear.

Now that I'm older, and hopefully wiser, I've learned to harness my creative side and am a much happier person than I was when I was younger. I'm going to go back to school to get another Bachelor's Degree and hopefully on to my Master's. I'll be a much better student this time around.

I'm not trying to give advice on how to handle an ADD child at all....I'm just sharing my experience with you, and letting you know that I'm always willing to talk about it, if it will be of any help.

Hi Jujam,

This does not sound like ADD to me, but just normal kid behaviour. When I was a child this was called 'being naughty'.

This is not an extreme case. In fact it's ordinary. I'm just trying to reach my daughter. She's moody, and extremely defensive. She has little awareness of her actions and almost zero accountability.
Parents of children, even with very extreme behaviour, have noticed immediate improvements when they removed sweet things and chemical laden processed food from the child's diet within a matter of days, so that is always worth considering, even if there is the odd tantrum in the short term. Sugar in the diet is the smoking gun in the recent and sudden upsurge in diagnosis of ADD in the western world in my opinion (along with the enormous profits for the drug companies making Ritalin and its relatives).

Here is an article on the connection between ADHD and diet you may find interesting.

It is hard to give advice without having a bit more info, but love and patience fixes most things. Kids can be a real pain sometimes and it can wear you down, I know! Then they grow out of the difficult toddler stage and are mostly OK for a while until they start to hit adolescence. How old is your daughter?

What is it about her behaviour that makes you think this might be past life related? Has she said anything about having memories of a previous life?

Wow - so helpful!

All this insight is so helpful! Thank you everyone. One link in particular that dated back to 2001 covered almost everything I'm experiencing (thanks Ailish!). Beachboy - really good to get a real time, first hand account.

Tanguerra - she's 7 now so she doesn't speak of past life memories anymore and only sort of did when she was younger. She's not a great communicator and I may not have picked up on her eclectic story-telling at that age and perhaps that's contributed to some of her frustration.

I'm in the throws of much homeopathy to address the ADD needs but have my Rx waiting in the wings. Been putting off pulling the trigger on that one but a variety of input regarding meds. on one of the links has been very helpful!

So many thanks to all!!
