Milton Erickson

This has little to due with reincarnation - Milton was one of the more prominent people I've been associated with, and his daughter recently died. In her tribute by the staff of the Erickson Foundation newsletter, Betty Alice related her Dad's "Rules of Life" that I thought were pertinent, I wish that I could include all that was included but it was more than I want to type.

1 Life is hard work. We are wired to accept and do it - we are the only animal to prepare for things like marathons or mountain-climbing.

2 Life is Unfair. Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people (obviously he did not include reincarnation in these Rules). I want to add an additional observation to this one - something has to 'die' for us to 'live', choosing to leave-out a food chain segment is simply a personal choice.

3 Life is full of Pain. Pain s a part of living.

4 Everything Ends. Thank goodness!

5 Every choice Costs. We don't know the future, so we can't weigh the costs of every choice.

6 The Law of Averages is correct - That's why It's called the LAW of averages. The expected and 'usual' occurs most of the time.

7 Change is the only Constant. You, me, mountains, rivers - everything changes.

8 It is what's in your head and heart that really matters. Life can be filled with joy, happiness and delight, or that same life could be filled with misery, unhappiness and fear. What we focus on, our definitions become our life.

9.What we receive in life depends on Merit - and good or bad luck - or a combination.
No one "merits" bad parents or winning the lottery. It is usually a matter of timing and making the right choices (again not including Reincarnation and those kind of beliefs).

10 Life was made for Amateurs. We are all amateurs at it, so enjoy it and learn how to play it better.
