My memories and dreams

New Member
Hi,

Here is a little bit about what brought me here:

For as long as I can remember I have been dreaming of a life that is not my own. The dreams are always extremely vivid and leave a lasting impression on me even into the next day. They always seem to take place in what I think may be the 1800s. I’m not sure of the location. In the dreams I am just an average woman with a husband and son. I loved them both dearly. The dreams are mostly pleasant, except for one which always turns into a horrible nightmare.

In the nightmare, me and my little family are coming home from somewhere. Three men on horseback have been following us. They know my husband some how. I can’t help but be worried. I feel like they’re up to no good. Then the dream changes and I’m anxiously looking out the window of our little home while my husband talks with the strange men. I’ve taken our son inside to keep him safe, but now feel totally helpless to do anything else. Suddenly an argument breaks out, and the men gang up on my husband. I watch in horror as they stab him, and he falls to the ground, clutching his stomach. I scream, and then cover my mouth. Then the dream changes again and the men start to walk towards the house. That’s when I always wake up.

This past life seems to haunt me. Just when I think I’ve put it out of my mind, something will trigger it, and it returns, either in dreams or flashbacks. What’s really strange though, is that this lifetime feels so real. It’s almost as if I will go to sleep one night, then wake up as this person again. Another odd thing that I think may be related to this life, I have always felt like a widow. Even when I was a little girl, I knew something ‘wasn’t right.’ It felt like someone was missing. I have never had any kind of relationship with men in this life, because I’ve always felt that I have already been married.

I know I should be concentrating on this lifetime, and I really would like to heal from all of this, but I don’t know how. Is there any way I could do that? Does any of this even sound like it could be past life related, or is it all just in my head?

Thanks for reading, :)

Hello Shamrock

Since your dream is intruding on your thoughts during the day it sounds like it is past life related. Most dreams though emotional upon awakening are soon forgotten . And your wording your questioning about your feeling out of place ties in with having had something happen in a past life which you need to have a closer look at and come to terms with in your now.

There is some reason your mind is triggering this dream... it sounds like you would benefit from past life regression work. Reliving that past , getting to know who the people were with you in that past and what happened and how you percieved things can help you to see the bigger picture of your questions.

It may be that you need to remember other lives as well, as sometimes the people who we have been with have been with us several times . When we are with people alot we get into dysfunctional patterns of not dealing properly with our feelings , not knowing for sure and wondering if those people forgive us, love us or even like us.

The way our mind works we can pretend to discount the importance of our feelings and through a regression the details become apparent and we can find strength and inner peace about life.

IS there anyone who you might see professionally doing regression work near you. > ? There are also CDs available helping to guide you in how to do a self regression.

good luck and keep us posted. soulfreindly

Welcome to the forum, Shamrock. That definitely sounds like a past life related problem to me! I agree with Soulfriendly, it sounds like past life regression work, or using meditation to help you remember more about this situation and truly understand it's all in the past might really help you.

Welcome Shamrock! Your dreams definitely sound like a past life to me. I know what it's like to have nightmares like that repeating. I had that as a child too and I was dreaming of a past life death. There are alot of ways to see more of this past life, along with come to terms with it and move forward in your current life. There are some stickies here on the forum that give terrific recommendations for a variety of meditations and self-guided regressions. I hope it works out for you and that the nightmares stop. :)

Hello Shamrock!

Thanks for sharing your dream! I can tell you it scared ME to read it. I know what it's like to have recurring dreams about those dreadful situations - the loss, the fear are huge and one just feels sort of drowned by those feelings. Well - that's how I felt! :o

I have to second what the others said already. I think it may be beneficial for you to know more about this past life, and perhaps others that you haven't tapped into yet.

Once I started remembering more about several past lives, I've been able to identify some patterns that have helped me understand why some things happened the way they did. Knowing this, I now feel that I have more freedom to better live my current life. This doesn't mean that I have "put it behind me" - I think that, step by step, I'm finding out how to integrate everything, all my experiences, into who I am today.

Welcome to the Forum!!

All the best

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind replies. :)

Unfortunately there isn’t anyone who does past life regression work near where I live. I have ordered two different past life regression cds online, that I saw mentioned in the Frequently Asked Questions folder. Do the regression cds work as well as the actual in office hypnosis provided by professionals? Also, I suffer from terrible anxiety and never seem to feel calm. Do you think this will affect the results of the hypnosis?

I have been trying to meditate for the past couple of days, but the only thing I can see is an old train at a station. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the lifetime I’ve remembered from dreams or not, but it’s a start, I suppose. Hopefully, I’ll get more info when the cds arrive.

Thanks for the support and advice, everyone! It’s much appreciated.

Hi Shamrock. I'm glad you ordered some regression CDs. I believe they are supposed to work as well as professional regressions. It's just different ways of getting "into" yourself to find the memories. I haven't tried a professional or a CD, mainly for lack of time/quiet space. However, if I did, I would try the CDs first because I'd feel more comfortable alone than with a stranger, and also could go into it with no expectations.

The image of a train could definitely be past life related, especially if that was your intent upon beginning to meditate. Did seeing the train aid in your feeling of calmness? I hope it didn't bring up any more anxiety. Keep going with the meditating and hopefully the CDs will be helpful also. Keep us posted!

Hi Shamrock and thanks for sharing - your memories are intriguing.

Do the regression cds work as well as the actual in office hypnosis provided by professionals?
I think it differs from individual to individual. I know many have had a lot of success with regression tapes, myself included. It all depends on how easily you fall into that hypnotic state, imo. I went to see a hypnotherapist a few months ago (not for a PL regression though) and I experienced that it was somewhat easier to fall into the hypnotic state with her than on my own. Certainly that could also be because she spoke my mothertongue whereas the regression-cd's I've used have been in English, but I may also have felt more relaxed or secure because I she was beside me to help and guide.

My point is that it's a very individual experience and you may have to try out various methods to find what works for you. So don't give up if you get no results from the cd's you've ordered - just try some other tapes, go see a therapist or do something else that feels more right.

How can I learn about my past lives?

What a regression is and what to expect

Hello again!

To Alaskanlaughter: The image of the train didn’t cause any anxiety, it was more like a feeling of “I haven’t thought about this in so long!” I actually felt calm and quite happy about it.

To Sunniva: Thank you for the links, they were very helpful! I had never thought to keep a past life journal until reading the first link. That’s a very good idea, since I don’t have the best memory.

Just a little update: One of the past life regression cds arrived a few days ago. I tried it right away. I really wasn’t expecting to see much on my first try, but I was pleasantly surprised! I saw myself as a young woman, dressed in Victorian clothing. I was about to get into a black carriage after having visited with relatives. I said the year was 1876, and I was 19. Then the cd instructed me to go to the last day of that lifetime. I saw myself standing at the edge of a balcony about to jump. I was either on the second or third floor. I felt so miserable. All I could think was “They cannot force me to marry someone I do not love.” I felt as if I had loved someone entirely different from who my parents had chosen. Below, there was driveway type thing that went in a semi circle in front of the home. I don’t really know what it was made of…stone or brick, maybe? Anyway, I jumped and landed on it, crumpled on my side. Then I could sort of feel myself ‘pop’ out of that body. I felt slightly anxious at this point, but then relaxed after I knew the lifetime was over. Then the cd instructed me to go to a second lifetime, but I couldn’t see anything at all. I guess I had snapped out of the trance. I spent the rest of the day in a very calm, anxious free state of mind.

I decided to try the cd again yesterday. I saw myself in the 1970s then. I said the year was 1978, and that I was in America. I looked down at my feet to see what I was wearing, and was very surprised to find myself wearing men’s clothes! At this point I just ‘knew’ my name had been Joseph. Then the cd instructed me to go to the last day of that lifetime, and it was as if my mind just froze. I couldn’t see anything after that, and became very anxious. I have no idea what happened, but it was as if my mind blocked me from seeing anything else.

So far, I still haven’t seen anything related to the nightmare. I’m not sure why, though. Could it be that I need to see and heal these other lifetimes first?

Thanks again for your replies and support. :) I’ll keep you posted.

Good point Shamrock that you may need to come to terms with other parts of your past before you go to dealing properly with the nightmare. I am not sure what a therapist would say though.

I had a flashback to some extremely traumatic times and it took many other experiences in my past to put that more to rest. I had had alot of stress also from my present life and I had to resolve my feelings around the people who I had been born to. I found remembering the lives with these people and also the time in the bardo state{ in between lives } necessary to deal with the flashback life. We are all kind of different --- one size does not fit all unfortunately and so our healings come in different packages.

Since you did have memories come to the surface I would explore these that maybe your higher self knows that need to be understood. I like to remember who the people are in those past lives. If some of the people are the same as your present it can help you understand those toxic dysfunctional patterns you are holding onto.

So you could find out who those parents were, and who the man was ,, And in the other life figure out more of your feelings about that . IT is sometimes very important to remember what happened at death. I am not knowledgeable enough to know when to push and when not to?? I found it helpful to face my deaths... I would feel some peace afterwards even though going through it was very difficult.

Hi, Shamrock,

I know exactly what you are talking about and how you feel. First I want to assure you that you will not go back to be that person, the past is past, or maybe happening somewhere in the universe, but definitely not here, not now, not to your current life. I understand the memory hurts but since nothing happens for no reason. It may means something to you and could be helpful to the spiritual growth or has something to do with some real life obstacles in your current life. Try to look at it in a positive way and find out why you need this memory, why now? What are the biggest challenges you are facing now? Is it a difficult relationship? failed ambitions? lost opportunities? Think of these, the past life memory could be inspriation and key to the answers you always wanted to find.

Second, why does it keep coming back? Are there persistent triggers that you don't know about continuely triggering the memory? Is it someone you knew from a past life? a painting from a certain era? a song, a scent, or a simple repetitive emotion pattern resonating with that particular past life?

Hope these thoughts helps.

Best,

Hapfor

Hi again!

Thanks Soulfreindly, Alaskanlaughter, and Hapfor for your comments.

You know, that’s a really good idea, Hapfor. I’ve never thought about possible triggers for the nightmare. I think it may be a combination of quite a few things. It’s certainly got me wondering. I’ll have to pay more attention to the things going on in my life when the nightmare recurs.

Just a little update: I’ve continued to work with the regression cds, and have gotten better at meditation. So far, I’ve discovered the man I loved from the previous lifetime I regressed to, was actually someone I have met in this lifetime. He was the guy that I had wanted to marry instead of the other one. In this lifetime I immediately recognized him as someone important to me. I remember the first time I saw him, even from a distance, I thought, “It’s you! Where have you been?” I thought I was going crazy for thinking that! I’m glad I now know why he was so familiar to me.

Also, I’ve noticed that lately, I’ve been having spontaneous memories pop up at the most random times. Just the other day, I was out gardening when suddenly a memory surfaced of me picking blackberries and putting them into a small basket. It was a really windy day. I was wearing a hat (or maybe it was a bonnet?) and was worried it would blow away. I believe the memory could have possibly been from the lifetime I dream about so often. It couldn’t have lasted more than 30 seconds. Then it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

Strangely, I haven’t had the nightmare at all since starting with the regression work. I haven’t dreamt anything even slightly related to that lifetime. I don’t know what that’s about, but I’m glad that for the time being I can sleep in peace.

Thanks for listening :)

Maybe the nightmares were your Higher Self trying to bring these memories into your conscious awareness. Since you have been doing the regression work the memories are now in your conscious awareness, so there is no longer a need for these dreams to reoccur.

Since I started doing regression work I too have had spontaneous memories pop into my head at random times. It's weird when I'm trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together and a signifacant piece will come to me while I'm mowing the lawn.

Hello again,

Truthseeker- That’s a good point. I hadn’t even considered that. I thought maybe I had blocked the nightmares out for some reason and that’s why they weren’t occurring. But I think you’re right. Thanks for the insight!

Another update: I hadn’t tried the regression cds for a while, but decided to give it another try a few days ago. And I finally went back to the lifetime I dreamt of so often. The images came to me very easily. I first saw myself picking berries and putting them in a basket. It was the same image from the spontaneous memory I had recently. I think it was during summer, because everything looked very lush and green. The sky was overcast, and it was very windy. Then, the images changed, and I felt really cold. I was sitting at an old wooden table across from my husband and next to our son. We were saying grace before our meal, and then began to eat. I noticed the inside of the house was very small, possibly only one room. There was a fireplace on the back wall, which was lit. It crackled and popped as it burned the wood down to embers. Even though the fireplace was lit, I still felt as though my hands were nearly frozen from being so cold. But despite the living conditions, I felt so totally happy and satisfied with my little family. I felt we were very poor, but content.

Then the cd instructed me to go to my last day. I felt as though I dreaded even thinking about it. It seemed to start as the nightmares did, only a lot more vivid and clear. We were coming home from somewhere, and three men were following us. We arrived at the tiny home, and my husband goes out into the yard to talk to them, while I take our son inside. I watch and wait, but an argument breaks out. After quarreling, they stabbed my husband and he fell to the ground. I screamed and covered my mouth. Then after a few moments, they started walking towards the house.

I felt so panicked at this point, I didn’t know what to do. I turned to our son and told him to hide the best he could, and go to get help when it was safe. He looked to be about 7 or 8. I just knew his name was Jacob. He nodded. I kissed him on the forehead. ( I had become very emotional by this time and had tears streaming down my face.) Then I go outside, despite being terrified to confront the men. I didn’t want them to get our son, so I ran down the dirt trail that led to our home. I hoped they would follow. They did. It all seemed like a big game to them. I’m not sure, but I think they were drunk. One of them was carrying a gun. I could hear them shoot, two, maybe three shots. Then I fell to the ground. I’d been hit in the back and realized I couldn’t move my legs anymore. The three men caught up to me easily after that. And to make a long, gruesome story short they eventually killed me too. I remember feeling my life slip away, and then I was looking down at my body. I felt so horrible about leaving that lifetime, and felt so very guilty for having left my son behind.

I think I still carry the guilt with me even today. When I have to leave for work or to run errands, I always feel guilty for leaving my pets behind, even though I know they’re safe. I’m sure it probably sounds silly, but I always worry that I’ll never see them again. It’s such an awful feeling.

Anywho, I don’t know how much of the regression could have been my imagination, but I thought I’d post it anyway. :)

Hi Shamrock :)

I'm happy to read that the regression tapes work for you and thank you so much for sharing your progress.

Reliving the nightmare of that past life must be hard. Now that you're aware of what happened, and which part you played, you can begin to work on your issues with guilt. Since it affects you today, it has most likely affected other past lives as well and you will probably begin to see a red thread in your memories. Realization of *why* you feel guilty is the most important step towards solving your problem :)

I don’t know how much of the regression could have been my imagination
This is a very common feeling, believe me ;) I learnt to trust my memories, always be a bit critical and sceptical of course, but generally - trust what you experience. Brian Weiss writes in his book 'Mirrors of time' that even if some experiences may be due to imagination, it doesn't matter, the important thing is that it all comes from you, from your subconsciousness. In that sense everything you experience is important - whether imagination or reality - and everything holds a special meaning.

Congratulations on your results!

Hi Shamrock..

It sounded pretty real to me. You can tell usually by the way new feelings come up during regression. The way you described your experience it sounded like a past life.

That leaving your son behind must have been heartwrenching. The love we have for our children can be unconditional and our souls have a difficult time distinguishing from our responsiblity for the care of our children and being able to accept they too have their karma and their personal path.

That was not your fault that you had to leave your son behind. Those men were the ones responsible and you did your best by leading them away.. and a very courageous action on your part. There was not much else you could have done.

I would do a visualisation around saying your goodbyes to your son. By having a make believe conversation with your son you could explain to him what you did and how much you really love him. By getting close to him in spirit you might be able to allow your higher self to inform you the whereabouts of your son now.

I encourage you to visualise that that was in the past and in this life it will not happen again. I am dealing with some guilt, and anger at dieing and leaving the ones I love behind after being murdered and I am realising in order to move on and get on with my journey I need to learn to trust again.

You may never know what happened to your son, but your love does carry on and his soul is supported through that. Once you have accepted that your dreams are based on the truth of that past life , then it will be easier to see that that is in your past That dream just shows you your devotion to that son. By accepting it and moving on, then think of the possibilities of maybe meeting that son again in this life.

IF this is the only upsetting feelings you are having and you do not feel you carry any other scarring from other lives, I would give it a rest for now . IT can take awhile to process these new feelings. Come back to it in a few days and see how you are reacting then.
