Possible case of same-family reincarnation or am I insane?

My little boy just turned two very recently and let's just say that I am a natural skeptic and an atheist.

We recently went back to the house where my mother grew up and my son said something that really gave me a pause. First he recognized that what is now a parking lot used to be grass but I did not think much of it but assumed that I or my mother told him. Then he began insisting that his "doggie" was buried where there are now a group of brushes. He asked him what the doggie's name was and when he gave the name of my mothers dog I almost fell over. I'm so so sure that we never told him the dogs name. Now my mother did have a dog that died in 1980. So I took her back there and asked where the dog had been buried without telling her what my son said and she pointed out that area.

He does not have any nightmares etc. and is pretty much just a normal kid. Though I am wondering if his severe fear of doctors and hospitals could be a leftover from his past life? I have been told that this fear is "normal" in toddlers but he has had it all his life starting the first time I took him to the pediatricians as he was born at home. We did visit the hospital that my grandfather died in when he was a few months old and he was inconsolable the entire time we were there. I thought that maybe he wasn't feeling well but the moment we pulled out of that parking lot he drifted off peacefully.

My grandmother still has clothing of my grandfathers in the closet and upon seeing it my son insisted that the clothes were his. He has also taken to calling my grandmother "Doris" which I though he just picked up somewhere. But then again, this kid doesn't even get the concept that my name isn't mommy and nobody he is around would call my grandmother Doris.

I never thought much of the incidents above but now with this recent occurrence it really makes me wonder if my son is in fact my grandfather. As far as I am aware, I did not have any past life memories. Though some things about my own childhood now make me wonder, too (I might post about this at some point).

Needless to say, I am creeped out and wondering what exactly I should do now? Leave him alone? I do not want to prod to much and potentially cause harm.

Welcome to the forum. :) Yes, your son could be your grandfather. Same family reincarnation seems to be very common. Carol Bowman has written a book about it called "Return From Heaven". She has another book called "Children's Past Lives". Both books are excellent. Start keeping a journal and write down everything that your son says that could be past life. Children remember past lives mostly between ages 2-8. After that the memories usually start to fade and they forget. You can ask your son open ended questions. But unless he is in "the zone" he won't have any idea what you are talking about. Good times to ask are when he is sleepy or riding in a car. Maybe ask him what his name was? Etc. Look at the other posts here in the forum, especially the children's memories section. There are also several children who remember dying on 9-11. There is a video archive section and a recommended book section.

A big welcome to this forum. As mentioned above its not at all unusual for there to be same family reincarnation.like stated above keep a diary of all these events. He will begin to forget as he get older.Their are also some other members here that have experienced same family reincarnation. The above mentioned books will help.

all the best

Hello McHobbit,

What you have relayed here is very interesting! If your son does not seem particularly bothered by it, I would not worry too much. You are probably doing all the right things already. Listen to him if he wants to talk about it, take him seriously if he says something is "his", comfort him when he has to see a doctor or visit the hospital. That's really all there is to it.

Taking notes helps. You might think you would never forget something so shocking, but it does happen. Life gets in the way.

This thread might help you feel a little less alone. I am pretty convinced my middle child was my grandmother.

Welcome to the forum! What you have recounted is not too uncommon! Little kids will often talk of past lives and forget them starting at age five. My little brother used to always talk of his other family and his "brother," who wasn't me. Same-family reincarnation is also very common. I remember most of my family members from previous lives. Even dead parents or grandparents being reborn as a son or daughter is normal! They want to be back in your life of course!

Thank you all for your kind responses. I took me a bit to pluck up the courage to write this all out.

I'm afraid that trying to prompt him might make him tell me what I "want" to hear. I admittedly always thought that children with past life memories might have been prompted by their parents. Also, my grandpa did have some rather traumatic experiences in his life and I would hate to trigger something. Would it be a bad idea to show him pictures of my grandfather in his youth, their dog, grandpas family members or things like grandpa's car? Just in a "heey, lookie what I have there? Who do you think that is?"

I unfortunately did not know my grandpa very well since he died when I was 5 and would have to rely on my mothers and grandmothers memories. I cannot possibly bring this up to my grandmother. She is a staunch Christian and would not be open to this at all. My mother, who was not open to this type of stuff at all when I was a child, now is and has told me something that made me pause and wish that she had kept a journal because I suspect that there was soo much more. I most definitely will start one for my son. I just feel like I'm going insane lately because as I said, I'm a complete skeptic. Though I always wanted to know him and would be ecstatic to have him in my life in a way. I will definitely look deeper into past lives in general (and with an open mind) and keep you updated if my son says or does something possibly related to past lives again. I wish that we could go inside the house they used to live in but that's a no go.

Dear McHobbit, thank you for bringing your story to our forum. You, and your son, are why we are here. I would suggest two things... first, simply find peace in knowing this mystery is beautiful; relax with it, step back and take it all in. Second research it, study everything you have time for. Begin with Carol's books. She has made children's past lives her passion. Those books will give you wonderful ideas on how to deal with things.

I found out late in life that I was my great-grandfather. I, like your son, probably exhibited many of his traits. I remember as a child being infatuated with an unused room in my grandmother's house. I'd always be in there playing and messing around until I was scolded. I learned a few years ago in a regression that this was the room my wife died in; it was our bedroom. Now, from my perspective (thinking, perhaps, as your son may in fifty years) I look hard for things that once belonged to me in that life. Not that I want to relive their significance, but to validate and comfort his existence, AND my own in this life. I am a culmination of many lives as one soul. And to be able to touch the reality of one of those past lives adds a tremendous spiritual/mythical/magical (choose your own word) validity to my existence.

I don't think you want to alter the way you deal with him. Would you show him the photographs as a matter of routine? If so then I would do it. Carol offers great advice in this area. I guess the last point I'd make is that, in this life he is your son. And you have been blessed to know one of his past lives. For your own sake study up on your grandfather. Get to know who he was, what were his passions, fears and victories. What were his favorite things and places? And then register these things in your head as WHO YOU were to him. I see you have a tremendous opportunity to enrich both of your lives in a wonderful way.

Bless you and the little guy! If you have any questions please ask. You are in a safe place. You might, as someone above suggested, want to keep a journal of all that YOU are thinking and seeing. And hold on to all of the personal things you can for the little guy.

I'll have Carol check in on your thread.

Here is a short video clip about an American boy who remembers being his own grandfather. This was probably the best documented case of reincarnation until James Leninger came along a short time later. This video is an excerpt from a longer video about the boy in Scotland who remembered living on a nearby island in a past life. Both of these cases were investigated by Dr. Jim Tucker who succeeded Ian Stevenson.

Wow! This story is so interesting .. I always pay attention to what my son of 3 years says... I just said once " mommy, do you remember when you were so little and you were inside my belly?" .. That made me laugh. We spoke previously about babies and belly, so I don't know if it's just a kid thing or a memorie, but yes, I'm pretty sure you son does remember his past life. Usually they remember until they five years old, to a maximum of seven. Remembering it's a privilege don't be scared! He will probably forgets when he will be older
