Soul mate links?

I don't know much about "soul mates" and I'm not sure I even believe in them, but I have come across some references to soul mates on this forum and elsewhere, and I am curious. Can anyone enlighten me on the subject? Any good links I can check out?

I think my husband is my soul mate :) (If the concept exists, that is!)

When I was a child, I had many NDE's due to a cardiac condition I grew up with. That is when the 'subject' first came to the surface. As a child, when my spirit left my physical body and I was off in the 'other world' - I didn't want to come back to this physical realm again. Over and over again, the transcendental beings whom I had contact with on the other side - would always mention the 'promises' to meet up with other incarnations here in this world - when I was older. As a child, I didn't refer to them as 'soul mates' as much as I referred to them as "old friends from - before I was born."

The first encounter I had with 'one of them' was at the age of 12 when I transferred to a new school. There was my perspective, there was the other person's perspective - and then, there was our classmates perspective. It was the first time I heard the word 'soul mate.' It seemed everyone had a different definition of what that word (soulmate) meant.

  • The word is a combination of "soul" (one's spiritual existence) and "mate" (friend, partner, etc). The word was first seen in 1822, but other scholars think that it may have come into being in the mid-1950s, with the rise of the greeting card industry. It is a relatively new word. Soulmates and Twin Souls

For myself - it was a general reference to anyone my soul had shared a past life with. As a teenager - there seemed to be a 'fever' attached to the romantic element of life. When I spoke of various encounters I had with past life associates - everyone seemed to get the fever and imply some sort of romantic connection. I told someone - "My Mom is one of my soul mates, as well as my Dad." That didn't sit well in the minds of my young friends - so - I stopped talking about the reincarnation aspect of it. In my mind, the first 'soulmates' or 'past life associates' your going to encounter in this life - are going to be - your own relatives.

The words 'spirit' and 'soul' are actually two different things - but many use them interchangeably. I feel the same is true of 'soulmates' and 'twin spirits.' Soulmates? You can have hundreds of soulmates in one life time - yet - eternally there is only one 'twin spirit' that is uniquely attached to you from the beginning of creation. The origin of that concept dates back to Plato and (in my opinion) to the Genesis of Creation in the Bible. The creation of 'man' has it that the 'male and female' were created whole as one. Then, the formation took place and a portion (rib) was taken to create a 'companion' or 'help-mate.' See: Are Soul Twins Biblical?

Hope this helps some.

Sincerely,

DKing

I couldn't have said it better, dking. I totally agree with this concept of "soulmate". We meet so many of them along our lives, but we are so blind to this fact. The "romantic" part of it is so small when you are aware of (that is, we merely imagine) the real LOVE that exists on the other side.
