What to make of my 4 year old??

I am wondering what to think of my 4 year old. I am starting to believe that he is aware of past lives. He has always talked about "the old town" and all of the things that he does there. He is always very matter of fact when he talks about it and says it was a long time ago. There are a couple of different scenarios. He used to talk quite a bit about being pregnant and that he was a woman. How when he grows up he is going to be a mom because in the old town he had a baby. He also tell that he died when he was a baby and went to heaven which was true to a point. He was very sick and almost died. I thought maybe he had heard us talking about it but he said he visited heaven and came back. He also talks about how when he was 8 (he's 4) he went to the store for the first time by himself and a man shot him. His dad came to the store later. Also, his mom was at the beach and she was shot. It was the same man. He talks about the old town all the time. He went up to my step son who was fishing and said that when he lived in the old town he used to fish all the time. It's always very matter of fact and I'm not sure what to think. Any help or input would be appreciated. Alot of people close to him mention or ask me about it as he talks about it to my brother in law, mother in law, dad sisters etc everyone has discussed it with me...

Hello Ivory, welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for sharing your sons' experiences with us. I don't know how familiar you are with the whole concept of reincarnation, but it is a natural process that we all go through, so there is nothing to worry about regarding your son, he doesn't seem to be traumatized by any of it, which is always a good sign.

Usually, a child will forget about their past lives without any issues as they grow older and become more focussed on their present life, but there are a number of harmless things you can do to either help him, or to satisfy your own curiosity.

Firstly, Carol's book, Children's Past Lives: How Past Life Memories Affect Your Child is a great place to start to give you a better understanding of reincarnation and how it affects your child (you can read the first chapter here). It's also a great idea to start a journal, and write down everything your son says. It doesn't take long to start forgetting it all, and later on down the line, something you've forgotten could turn out to be a valuable piece of the puzzle.

You can also try asking him some simple questions next time he starts talking about it. Ask him if he can remember his name, where he used to live, if he had any brothers or sisters, anything to initiate a conversation might draw some more memories out of him. It's very important to not force anything out of him though, just go along with what he says in a matter of fact manner. You might also get him to draw pictures, kids love to draw, and sometimes find it easier to express themselves that way.

All of this is optional of course. As long as he feels loved and a belonging to where he is right now, then he should grow up perfectly happy. Let us know how you get on, and hope you enjoy your time here.

Chris :)

I can't over stress how characteristic your son's comments are. Although this kind of thing is not common among the general population, it is certainly very common among children who seem to remember one or more past lives. The problem is that our Western society is not conditioned to pay adequate attention when children speak of such things. It is very important that you have become open enough to consider such a possibility and that you and your relatives have not panicked or discouraged your son from speaking of such things. Have you read either of Carol Bowman's books yet? If not, it's a good way to start. You will find many cases in her books which will make you much more comfortable with this topic, which will change your life forever. Welcome to the Forum!

Thank you for your replies. I am feeling really strange about things. We were lying on the bed together cuddling and I asked him if he wanted to tell me a story about the "old town". He said that he would tell me tomorrow but he started going on about mexico and that he was in outside the jail but they didn't "caught him". The police officers were very nice. They are good cops not the bad ones. He is explaining how they put tape on the walls and then paint on them. They paint the outlines of the peoples bodies and then fill it in. They do it outside cause it's too messy inside. He is not very good at painting in the lines cause he's not a grown up. He explained that the good cops wear gloves on them and that when they are painting they wear masks to protect themselves from the paint. It covers their face and neck and they wear something on their bodies to cover them as well but not on their feet. I would chalk it up to imagination but the way he describes it is with his hands and he is explaining how they do things so that i can understand what it is that he wants me to understand about the painting. He also told me that I couldn't tell his friends about this and it was only between him and I. I asked him if he knew his name and he thought for a second and said no it's hard for me to remember. I can't remember all of it and then walks off. When I asked him about the old town last time I asked him if he was 8 years old where his dad and I were and he says you weren't born yet. I had also forgotten that I asked him what happened to him after he was shot. If he went home or to the hospital??? He said he went to heaven and god made him alive again and he came here. I find the whole thing a little freaky. The story always remains the same and he talks about alot of the things he did etc. " a long time ago". I find the whole thing a little eerie.

Ivory,

I loved reading about your son's memories. If you check my posts you will see I have been working with my daughter since she was ten on her memories. The most important thing I can tell you is to write it all down so you can come back to it later.

Some kids forget, some do not. Mine still remembers but not as clearly as before.

Also, be careful to ask open ended questions and not lead the child to the answer.

Good luck and enjoy :)

Hello Ivory67, a warm welcome to Carol Bowman's Past Life Forum, where you are amongst like-minded individuals who also believe in Reincarnation and respect your beliefs also, please feel free to ask ANY questions that you might have and someone will answer them.

Without repeating any, these are ALL good suggestions in regards to your Son's recollection of Past Lives, but if I might be permitted to add a sub-suggestion, so to speak.

Some people find it tiring and for some people almost impossible to write for long periods of time, I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, especially in my hands, and find it next to impossible to write for any length of time.

Instead I take advantage of modern technology and "treat" myself to a Personal Computer with a Word Processor program, or if that is not possible, you might consider an inexpensive tape recorder or "Boombox" that records.

The purpose of these devices, at least for me, is to make documentation more attainable and less tiring, and then a record and a timestamp can be made using a borrowed or your own personal computer (provided the system time is correct).

And after a period of time, his recollections may form a definitive pattern that shows he did indeed have (and recalls) a Past Life (or Lives), the fact that he is consistent in his recollections is a GOOD sign indeed, this indicates he is NOT making these stories up as a game, but is actually recalling them; all in all, he sounds like a well adjusted boy who is lucky to have such an understanding Mother and again, welcome to the Forum and feel free to visit again, we enjoy hearing from you. :)
