Do you believe we "choose" our parents?

My mom read that we do in a book called "Messages from the Masters" by Brian Weiss and she keeps joking around with me and saying that I chose her because it says that in the book but I don't remember that? Can we still believe in G0d and believe we choose our lives? I read that it's a free will thing. So I guess it's possible.

A lot of people disagree about this, but I think we choose. One theory I read was that we are drawn to a womb that has the right "vibration" for the experience we seek. One of my children mentioned choosing me when she was two, and oddly, it is the one with which I have a difficult relationship.

If you look at the old messages in the Children's memories section you will see that many children say they picked their parents. I have also read in books that sometimes we are "persuaded" in our choice of parents by our guides, angels, etc. I think now that I chose my parents.

Wow those are all interesting responses. I have no idea why I would have chosen my mom. I was probably persuaded by a guide or angel lol

I think my eldest daughter chose me because we had issues to work out, and I am beginning to figure out what they were, and are. Not much progress has been made, sadly.

This was one of the topics I recall speaking to my Mom when I was very young. I think she sparked the conversation with the saying, "you don't get to choose your parents" - or I had heard it said. It was prior to starting grade school and I was with her in the backyard as she hung out clothes to dry. I was asking her, "Don't you remember that time I came to see you before I came to live here with you?"

She wasn't paying much attention to me at first. Then I started describing something that happened to her when she was around 14 years old. I hadn't been to my grandparents farm at that age and was describing the old wooden garage where she had gone to cry alone. I told her, "I peeked at you through the cracks in the wall at first and then I came inside by walking though the wall. I thought you knew I was there because you stopped crying and looked up at me." She had 'sensed' my presence and thought she saw a transparent light. (She later told me this.)

She stopped hanging up clothes and knelled down to question me about where I had heard that story told to me before and who had told me to tell her about it like that. She said she felt she never had breathed a word to anyone about that day in the garage. She couldn't wrap her mind around the idea that my 'spirit' had visited her prior to my own birth. I told her, "That is when I made up my mind to come and live with you to help you with the tears you have hidden inside."

I was born two years later.

As a child, it always confused me when I heard the saying, 'you don't get to choose your parents.' I had a very vivid memory of the time (in spirit) when I felt that choice was made prior to my physical birth. I realized at a very young age that sometimes in the world - you get taught wrong ideas about the reality of spirits prior to birth.

    Sincerely

My eldest and I have spoken about her memories of choosing me to be her mom. I am certainly glad she made that choice :)

The one thing my parents have told me that I said as a child was that both my sister (twin) and I were very matter-of-fact that we'd picked them as our parents, but we had to wait.

Which is the only spiritual thing we'd said - or that they've told us we said.

I firmly believe that children choose their parents. Perhaps for various reasons - karmic balancing or a situation that they want to 'overcome' later in life.

So then do the parents have no choice over who their children will be? It's a rather popular theory that soul groups exist, so that maybe mean that our parents, siblings and children have all been important figures in our past lives - possibly playing different role each time(mother in one life, son in the other). It seems that if we "choose" our parents it almost comes across like we can just pick at random, therefore perhaps choosing to have a life with souls/people we've never met on both sides of existence before? I'm not saying we don't pick our parents. Infact, I think it's very possible. However there is definitely a case against it.

I have three children, and have no sense of having chosen them, except for the youngest. I was aware that she would be born at least ten years before she arrived. I was however, aware of their sexes to the point that I had only girl's names selected for my daughters, and a boy's name for my son. I think there may be an element of consent from both parent and child. It would be nice if we could incarnate into new groups, and I think that possibility exists. I read that the more incarnations we have had, the more possibilities exist to move between expanded soul groups, simply because our "friend list" is larger.

    Lol @ friend list.

Well, I want to choose my past life daughter to be my child again because she only lived up until age 5. I asked a medium to ask her if she could be my child again, and he said, yes when you're 33. Do you think she's really planning on coming back at that exact age?

And if that life was real, do you think he/she will remember it?

How long to you have to wait? She will probably remember at least until she's 7 or so. You'll need to keep a journal.

I will :) I will try for a baby when I'm at the end of being 32 or the beginning of being 33 and I'll keep a journal of any past-life related he/she says up until age 7 :p We'll see what happens! I'm only 19 now so I have a long ways to go!

Nobody in my family seemed all that well connected with anyone else. My arrival sort of helped my mother at a difficult time, maybe I choose that time and place to be, although I have no sense of that, but there would be a logic to it. For her part I doubt she choose me, I was a surprise, and when she was realized she was pregnant she was utterly convinced she was having a boy. For myself I used to ‘sense’ my future children, who and how they were going to be, etc. Alas, they never materialized in the real world, I never had children.

I had a friend who had no children. When she was in the late stages of MS, she told me that she had given birth to a little boy who died of leukemia. Her description of him was very real, and I believed every word, and grieved for her loss. Later, I dreamed that her son was a grown man, of the appropriate age to coincide with the dates she gave me, and he had come to our neighborhood for a Christmas party. After my friend's death, her husband told me they never had children. He was so real in the dream that I wondered if the soul who was meant to be her son existed, and for some reason, never incarnated. If so, she's with him now, because she died a year ago, and I miss her every day. I think children that we sense, and are never born, may exist in the soul sense. They may be our children from a past life, or a future one.

    Some.

I believe some choose. Some lives are chosen for the person. Some are planned by whatever powers guide the universe. Some plans are made and then the plans are reversed. Some lives are planned from long time past. Others still come into the world a short time just for the experience of life, never to return again or to return to the same family again and again.

People come and go in our lives. Some meetings are planned. Some seem quite accidental, but the meeting can change everything in your life.

There are so many factors involved in making a human life.

I believe my path in this life was chosen for me. Maybe because I just can't seem to learn from my past.

That was beautifully expressed, Mark. It's all probably far more simple, and yet far more complicated than we imagine.

I"m pretty sure i chose my family, though 30 years ago i would never have believed it! I used to have hopes i was adopted.

It may be beautiful and touching, Sarellah, but we do have to question the logic of the process. I don't think it makes sense for it to be the one soul(child) that has a random choice in the matter. It makes more sense, in my opinion, that it would have to be a mutual decision made by both souls before each life (mother and child) and of course the father too, I suppose, but I'm just using two souls as an example.

I don't think its plausible that a soul, in this case, the mother, could plan her own life to a degree but have no idea what soul(s) will be her child. I'm not exactly saying that when children claim the choose their parents its a false memory.. I'm just implying that the parents are most likely to have agreed to that decision before their own birth, therefore the actual choice isn't when the mother falls pregnant - it's pre-planned and agreed in the spirit world.
