I don't know if I am just obsessed with the 1940s era or I lived then and went through WW2. Maybe you can help?
I love anything to do with the decade, from the hairstyles, the fashion the just general way of life. I watch films based in that era and just think 'I can remember britain being like that.' I have a huge fascination in the second world war since being a child and visiting Eden Camp a former concentration camp - now museum. I get shivers when something comes on the t.v mentioning war and goosebumps thinking about what it was like. I dont have any thoughts of marriage or children. I seem to think I died young possibly early to mid 20s and had dreams of working in factorys during the war. I don't know if this sounds like someone who is reliving a previous life or just wishful thinking because of how ****** the era we live in today is.

Hello there and welcome to the forum :) wellllllcome Do you suppose you got caught in a crossfire. Family oral history has mentioned some messed up material going on at that time. It's quite fascinating that concentration camps were brought up as an interest. Do you recall your past life's religious affiliation?

I think there are quite afew of us who were around in the UK through that time.


So far I only remember the time in France but have always had nostalgia from that time period.


I was always envious of my Grandparents for having lived through that time as a child-I didn't realise I'd been here then also which should explain it.
 
There was an intriguing PBS (probably BBC) program about life in a 1940's UK household. I will look for the name. I wonder if it would be a memory trigger for you, starry, and for Danni?
 
That would be interesting. Thanks Briar. I loved all the lunchtime soaps as a child that were set in war time. I'd watch them with my Gran. Maybe that was strange for a young child. I was probably reminiscing then without knowing.
 
The program was called "The 1940's House", and it was on BBC. The BBC built the house, and contemporary people lived in it with products and restrictions that were available during the war, with no contact with the modern world. I seem to remember the difficulty they had with digging a bomb shelter, and dealing with rationing. It was instructive, but entertaining. We are so "spoiled" now!
 
Oh, shadows. I loved "Edwardian House"! The couple who took on the roles of the Master and Mistress, didn't want to return to their real lives. Of course, the servants didn't have as much fun. I was a servant in a house of that era, and my employers were rich Americans, and kind. I like those programs, because we all tend to romanticize the past, and it is good to see what reality was like. Most of us have ideas of the 1940s that were shaped by romantic movies. The reality was something else.

Thanks I'll look that programme up. :) I dont have a clue where in britain I lived but I am very intrigued by bombed houses and can clearly remember studying this when I was around 8 or 9 and was obsessed with anderson shelters.

I am also envious of my grandparents especially my grandpa who would tell me war stories when I was younger. He mentioned being a small boy in I think possibly devon and seeing washed up bodies on the beach and it being closed off by police. Fascinating!

No nothing about religion...
 
I've been on a big WWII binge for the last week, Danni. I've been watching German language movies and documentaries. (with subtitles) I'm trying to understand the war from all sides, as I have always been very pro-Britain. It's difficult to watch the reality. I started to say "relive" it! This has probably been asked, but have you tried doing a self-regression?
 
I have a couple of recent ww2 dreams I want to post hen I get a little more time.


Thanks for the 1940's programme I'll have a look. I would find it interesting. I either seem to watch loads of TV or non at all. ;)
