A Potentially Charged Thread

I have a life-between-life memory, where I was watching a couple that had recently had an abortion - of the baby my soul was supposed to enter. It was like I was watching them from above, and I had another soul beside me, to comfort me because I was feeling a little sad. I felt that presence as a 'sister', who helped me understand why it was best the way it was.

The parents were a white couple living in Congo, as colonists, but at a time when there was already a lot of uproar, and it became unsafe for the colonists to stay there. I believe this must have been not long before my present incarnation, because the unrest in Congo was in the 50's, and Congo became independent in 1960. I was born in December 1959 in my present life.

So, it was a dangerous time for a colonist woman to be pregnant in Congo during that time, and I think that is why my parents-to-be decided not to have a baby at that time.

So far, I don't know if I ever knew those people in another lifetime or if I was ever related to them before.

I remember I only felt slightly sad for a missed opportunity to reincarnate, or so, but I - my soul - certainly didn't feel traumatized by the experience. I think my soul had not yet entered the body of the baby, and that is why it didn't have a trauma.

I have read that in China a boy takes care of his parents in old age, and since each family is only allowed one child, they opt to keep only boys and either abort or take to orphanages baby girls.

All and all it is very sad.

Eevee,

Do you have any other memories of that missed lifetime? Do you remember choosing them to be your parents?

It was only a short memory flash, and it consisted more of feelings than of visuals. As I said, I don't remember anything more about the couple, also not if I choose them as parents.

The feeling I had was that I had missed an opportunity to accomplish 'something' that needed to be done. Nothing big I guess, because I was only feeling a little sadness. And I also felt sorry for the parents because they had to go through this, I could sense they had mixed feelings of guilt, regret that their situation didn't allow them to raise a baby at that time, and sadness for the missed experiences THEY could have had with the baby - me. I think it was harder for them than for me.

I remember a debate in my high school speech class on abortion-quite the hot-button issue (I think for the speech class, it was supposed to be)- between two girls, who were fortunately very mature about it. One said she was against it because she was a Christian, and that due to her religion, she believed that killing was wrong. The other girl said her dad was a Buddhist, and that he'd believe (she didn't say she herself did), that the soul would be reborn into a family who wanted it. At the time, that concept sounded much weirder to me than it does now (especially since there are several anecdotes of that happening in this very thread). The girls both very calmly and very maturely agreed that because they were coming from two different paradigms, it would make no sense to debate it. I was very impressed (and relieved, as it could've easily turned into a Fox News-style shouting match with yelling and tears all around).

After reading articles like this, though, I don't think I could ever NOT be pro-choice. A few members here have had PL memories of then-illegal abortions, and although I have no plans of having to have an abortion myself, I am so glad that there is a safe option now for women (and girls) who need to.

I feel it's materialism. Many all over the world believe in reincarnation, but only the cultures who view females as an economic liability go so far as to murder newborn females.
It's got nothing to do with materialism, it's cultural beliefs and social mores. In countries such as India and China where girls are viewed as undesirable, when man and woman are married the woman's family is required to provide the man's family with huge gifts for the privilege of marrying their son and the man's parents have the right to live with the couple in their old age. There is no social security in China or India so having children who can support you is the only way of surviving once you get too old to work. If a couple only has girls it means they will be unable to secure anything above subsistence level in their old age, because the parents of their daughter's future husbands have the right to live with the couple and to be supported by them.

It is more flawed cultural beliefs and ancient tradition that has been causing this than anything else, but it is having a damaging effect in these countries. Because girls are undesirable in China and there have been so many abortions of girls as well as drownings in river once they are born, there are now 33 million Chinese men who will NEVER find a wife because there are so many more men in China now because of this cultural belief. In fact there has been some effort in China to try and change this belief.

Did you know it is ILLEGAL in China for a doctor to reveal the gender of an unborn baby to a mother before it is born?, because if they did there is the chance that the parents would try to carry out an abortion on their own without medical assistance.

This seems like a responsible thing for China to do, but unfortunately China is not as compassionate when it comes to the one child policy. Did you know that if you are found to be pregnant with a second child by the authorities in China they have the right to force an abortion on the mother against her will UP TO THE 8TH MONTH OF PREGNANCY.

An ABC report from last December about the widespread abortion and murder of baby daughters in India came to my attention—and causes me to wonder, if it is their belief in reincarnation which allows such callousness toward life; or is it their attachment to materiality which compels them to take such drastic steps?
I don't think it's a belief in reincarnation or a belief in materialism that causes this, it's medieval thinking and cultural beliefs that cause this regardless of whatever religious or spiritual beliefs the people have, or lack of beliefs the people have. India and China both have this problem, one is Hindu and believes in reincarnation, the other is atheist and has banned religion. Yet the both have similar views as far as marriage and inheritance are concerned. It is people's fear for their own security in their old age that causes them to do this, not because they have no regard for life because every body reincarnates, or because girls are only matter and there is nothing beyond the physical.

Hi

Newbie here - so hope its okay for me to post here on this.

My own personal view is/has always been in favour of ensuring one isn't in a position of needing an abortion in the first place if at all possible. If the circumstances are that one is necessary - then I believe the woman concerned is entitled to go ahead and do so. To me - I am not at all sure at what point the soul enters the body of the foetus. It's there at birth - but whether it enters "on the dot of conception", several weeks down the line, several months down the line or immediately before birth is something I don't personally feel is relevant in this context (though I suspect the timing is down to the individual would-be "incoming soul" anyway and will vary). I guess its because I'm coming at this question from the viewpoint of "Why would a soul choose to come to a woman who was in a position where she didnt want a child (if only at that particular moment in time)?". So - I tend to think that the responsibility lies with the potential "incoming soul" and not with the mother. I've never had an abortion myself (was never in that position) - but always took the view "What sort of soul would choose to make me pregnant against my wishes anyway - so that they could have me as a mother?" (that wouldnt say anything very favourable about their character - if they were prepared to do that to a woman in my opinion). My decision on from that was that I wouldnt have wanted someone like that (ie who totally ignored my wishes for my life at the outset) as a child anyway.

I understand a lot of people wouldnt think "What sort of character would make a woman pregnant against her wishes - I dont want to know anyone like that" - but maybe can see where I am coming from on that I do think that way. If I had a child ever - I would tend to feel that my chances of getting a nice/thoughtful/caring sort of individual as a child would be that much greater if I had wanted/planned to have a child and was sending out "positive vibes"/prayers to have a nice/compatible/caring sort of person choose me for a mother iyswim (rather than a selfish person).

Thank you, Green26 for explaining the Chinese situation.

It seems weird but in a way they are causing a slowdown of the birth rate because there simply won't be wives for many of the men, so there will not be children born to them.

Hi Cariad :) Welcome to the forum :) being a newbie myself, I can tell you that the group here is very welcoming and helpful, I am sure you will find a lot of great info and people here.

That's a very interesting idea ~ if I am understanding correctly, you feel that a soul wishing to be born can make a woman conceive so that individual can be born if that soul chooses her for a mom, regardless of the woman's intention to ever become pregnant in the first place? I have never thought of it that way before; while I have heard of some having the privilege of choosing parents, I've never thought of the prospect of that soul being able to induce the situation of being born. It's a completely new perspective for me to think about. That seems to take away the free will of the mom, but does bring up a whole new area of thought for me.

Obviously - which of us can know for certain - from this Side of Life - how things are and what the exact "sequence of events" is between conception and birth.

So - I would tend to think that a foetus might be able to be conceived initially without any "incoming soul" having decided it would be "theirs" in advance. But - certainly - by the time the baby gets born, then some "incoming soul" will definitely have commited to getting born into that body. So - my follow-on thoughts from that tend to centre round it makes sense for the "incoming soul" to check out in advance whether the potential parents both want to have a baby and will welcome the soul back into the world. To me - its sorta equates to I wouldnt want to just walk into a party, without having first checked out with the host that I would be a welcome guest there iyswim.

Well - I know what I mean anyway - but I may not be very good at explaining it......

....and yes it does churn out a whole barrel-load of personal thoughts in that direction - as my mother didn't seem to want a child - at least at the time that she had me - so what does that say about me personally? - other than one quick way to get born with a guilty conscience at the outset.....(but I tell myself that maybe I was just too impulsive/hasty at the outset..so maybe shouldnt feel too bad about it).

Welcome Caryiad and your thoughts are welcome here.

As an aside to your comments and Knickknack's rejoinder, it is my belief that the incarnate being determines if she (they if a couple) will become pregnant, in accordance with the chosen lifeplan enacted prior to their birth. This lifeplan isn't written in stone, but rather is a path set up which one may follow as a default setting, or exercise free will and deviate from it...each deviation has already been examined as a possibility prior to birth, so there will be infinite variations of that plan dependent on the incarnate's choices. Our choices may be valid choices or may be based on clues, tips and hints we and our guidance provided for us to help us remain on the path...the old sense that you "follow your first impression" is often a guiding point for me.

In that vein, my wife and I intended to have children and made no move to conceive...in fact prevented it from happening. At some point we decided if we were going to have children we'd better start and my daughter was conceived instantly...she had been waiting for us and when we gave her an opportunity she took it!

We never thought our child would be an only child, but again we ensured there would be no accident, and made no effort to conceive. It was at this time I met my first psychic who said "If you don't have your son soon you will lose the opportunity". I was shocked...I asked what she meant and she said that if we didn't conceive soon our son would take his second option as he wants to be here. He was born eleven months later.

It is my belief we contracted to have those souls incarnate in bodies we produced and to be raised by us...we are soulmates and are playing these roles for each other as we have dozens of times before. My wife and I were just a little selfish and not paying attention. Even my sister said we were a little retarded in our family planning development! If by a child forcing itself to be born to a woman, I only believe that it can somehow seek to remind the parent of what they intended to do...that psychic's comment reminding me of a son I had no idea was to come to me was certainly his soul prodding me to move and using the psychic to get the message to me. Outside of that, it is not my impression that a soul can force a woman to become pregnant simply to enable it an opportunity to incarnate.

Honestly, I do not think that our being born says anything negative about us as individuals. We may have chosen our moms, or we may have simply just been "assigned" (for lack of better term) to the moms we have. I don't think that we thrust our existence upon them in any way. ((hugs)) I am sorry if I am over-stepping, it just seemed as though you were expressing feeling guilty and in pain emotionally over having been born feeling your mom wasn't ready, and wanted to offer some comfort if possible.
I can see no circumstances wherein one's being born is a negative expression of the individual. I believe it is more possible that you chose those opportunities with those mothers, soulmates who agreed to enable you to experience an unwanted birth, for soul level purposes beyond anything we as humans could imagine doing. I have not seen a lifetime in which I was "assigned" to a birth mother, although I cannot say it doesn't occur. Why did I plan to be born to my previous sister only to die in a car accident 9 years later...and that after dying in a car crash in which that same sister severely broke her leg? Each lifetime serves a purpose to our souls and allows us to help each other with these endeavors. How do we as incarnate beings work past the difficulties we are born into? Do we strive to overcome and become a force of good to enable others to emulate or do we fall victim to the negativity we encounter?

I apologize if this comes across as hard, forceful or preachy...to me, we choose our circumstances from a soul level and the human angle is secondary and an opportunity to live a life to the best of our ability and level of awareness...as souls, always aiming as high as possible for each incarnation, all the while knowing there is no failure despite the "human element" and sensibilities.

KnickKnack,

I believe that we each have a purpose here in life, and lessons to learn each lifetime. Perhaps you were born to the parents that you were so that you could learn lessons that will help you with an issue later in this lifetime, or another lifetime.

For instance, for a very long time I was very successful and did well for myself. Due to the actions of someone else I lost everything and became homeless. Life has been a struggle for me since then.

However, I am working on putting together a charity to help others and do it because of what I learned, and teach others what I have learned while struggling as a single parent.

If I were still successful and at the top of the ladder, the charity would not have been something I would have done, and I would not have learned to do things that I will teach others.

You might just have to wait a bit to see what God has in store for you, and what amazing things are in your future. Who knows, you may be meant to be the mother of a future President, or someone who saves many lives.

Good luck and best wishes to you
