asked my 2.5 year old a question

So I am new to the idea of reincarnation. I just got interested last year when I had a dream that seemed to indicate that a deceased friend was trying to tell me he has been reincarnated. So I've read Carol's first book and loved it. I read Helen Wambach and her outstanding research. And Jim Tucker and Tom Schroder's account of working with Dr Ian Stevenson & of course the many posts here. I am really getting my knowledge base in this area, I can't stop reading!!
So I have a 2.5 yr old son and I am keeping a level head: like, ok just because I am interested in this subject doesn't mean my son will have memories. So I've discussed none of this with him. And I have asked him the same question 2x. I asked "where were you before you came to mommy's belly?". The first time I asked was 6 mos ago at Christmas time while we were playing and he wasn't quite as verbal as he is now. He gave me a look that he's never given before , it was funny and odd. He grinned and cut his eyes to the side and kind of giggled. The whole thing was like "wouldn't you like to know!" Like he had a secret. It was very cute. So then I just asked him again today in the car (I made sure to space the question very far from last time I asked as I don't want to badger him or make him feel he has to give me some particular answer). So he answers "I was in the moon, up in the sky". I was really kinda floored. We've never talked about anyone being up in the sky or living on the moon. I feel like if he did remember something, maybe the moon represents the heavens to him, I dunno. It was such an interesting answer. I am wondering, how do I ask him questions but also not "lead" him?? He hasn't ever said anything indicative of a PL but I feel having someone so young , I would like to know what he recalls, if anything.

This is intriguing. Do you have the feeling he's come back as your son, or someone else?


As to your little one, the best times to talk to little kids about things like this is when they're in a relaxed state, such as at bed time when you're tucking them in, or in the back of the car when you're driving, or the bath (if bath time is relaxing at your place).


You could try something like ... 'tell me about what it was like when / before you lived on the moon...' or something like that. If he doesn't know, he won't know what you mean. Not all kids remember things, so there's no point in pushing it.
 
Many children say they watched their future parents from "heaven". There was one case where the son told his mother he watched her riding her blue bicycle from heaven. She said, "I did have a blue tricycle when I was 5 years old. But there are no pictures of that and I never mentioned it to him." And then there is James Leninger. Another book you MUST read is "Soul Survivor" by Andrea and Bruce Leninger. James told his parents he started hanging around them when they were in Hawaii and were eating dinner on the beach. His parents were stunned when they realized that was their Honeymoon, more than a year before he was born. Carol Bowman is the one who advised his parents when he started having nightmares about being a WWII pilot who was shot down in 1945.

There were many cultures that thought of the moon as the land of the dead. Some Celtic tribes called it Emania.


By the way, I have seen that look before too. It was almost as if she was saying, "you know, I'm not supposed to tell you."


As far as asking questions, this has never really worked for us. It was far more enlightening having "mommy ears" and a pen nearby. The little nuggets usually drop when a hundred other things are going on. It goes by in a flash.

LEinenger's story next, thanks for the recommendation. I haven't thought about my son being my friend reincarnated, it was just that dream that got me interested in idea of reincarnation.


I will keep my ears open for more, especially at times my little one is relaxed. I find it so fascinating and really enjoy reading this forum. Thanks everyone.

If you haven't already, check out the video archive section here in the forum. There is a 5 minute video clip about James Leninger and also a more recent Ghost Inside My Child episode with the Leninger story. James is now in High School and no longer has the nightmares.

You are to be commended for keeping an open mind concerning Past Lives and Reincarnation and your desire to understand more, in a society, that until recently, did not have a good relationship with the concept.


If you haven't done so already, please consider keeping a record of what your Son has to say about prior lifetimes he might have undertaken, some of which he may have shared with you.


The easiest way to keep a record of what he says, is to record the conversation by using a tape recorder, ranging from small portable dictation machines all the way to a "Boom Box" and please consider buying a small microphone, especially if he has a soft voice.


Then in years to come, you have a "Treasure Trove" of his voice when he was very little and the tapes can be transferred to a CD, DVD or even a Blu-Ray disc and stored in a smaller (and safer) location.


And also the recordings prove to be a valuable documentation in case in the future you decide to write a book or a magazine article concerning your Son.

a semi-related update: recently my son has developed a serious fear of small airplanes flying overhead. He flips out screaming in abject terror and runs to me . As soon as I comfort him he is ok. He speaks very clearly now (he will be 3 in a couple months) but he can't articulate to me why he is so terrified. He has never seen anything on tv about planes, I am 100% certain. It is so strange. He is ok with large planes like 747's. Anyone else have a kiddo with such a strong fear?.how can I help him? Today at an outside play date he freaked out 4x, poor kid. He is truly terrified and screams running to me each time. Of course I can't help but think of the past life possibilities ... Everyone in my personal circle would think I am crazy for suggesting it. But I do find it fascinating that he has such a strong fear.

Being afraid of small planes flying overhead sounds like he may have been attacked by a fighter plane while on the ground, he may have been "strafed". Is he afraid of jet fighter planes also or just small propeller planes? If it's only propeller planes that could indicate the time period, like WWII, Spanish Civil War, etc. As he begins to talk more you can ask him open ended questions. When he is a little older maybe show him pictures of WWII planes and see what his reaction is.

Ok so you just made me think to ask him another question. I asked him "whY are you afraid of the airplanes? What are you afraid they will do?" (Hoping that 2nd question wasn't too leading but he hasn't answered the simple "why" question so I was trying to be clear & on his level). He said "they will come in the house. The purple airplane will come into the house". Really gave me chills.

Well, this is interesting. Maybe it wasn't a war. Maybe just a plane crash? Purple airplane? Maybe some of us can search the internet for a "purple airplane" or "purple airplane crash". Maybe there is a news story somewhere about a purple plane that crashed into a house or building. He hasn't said or indicated anything like 9-11, has he? You probably know there are stories here in the archives about children who remember dying on 9-11.

I have read the 9/11 posts and they're fascinating but I don't think that he has had any memories related to that tragedy. I did find this in searching "purple airplanes:


"like the French, the German air services used brown and green camouflage on its Albatros fighters however a series of friendly fire incidents resulted in a decision to replace the brown with purple. From a distance the purple worked well as a camouflage colour, while providing a distinctive identifying colour from close up"

Interesting. Maybe it was WWII. Maybe he will tell you more as time goes by. Be sure and write everything down.

I remember that. It happened 150 miles from here. I think that was the last air show at that airport. That was the old Sacramento airport which no longer had scheduled airline service. Thats why most air shows do not have jets flying. Too dangerous. The Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, etc. are specially trained pilots flying well maintained planes.
 
Very fascinating and I am glad you have been open-minded about your son's experiences! It really helps that you are asking him open ended questions and writing everything down. You both may really come to cherish the fact that you took notes one day as he may be interested in seeing this information when he is older.


I second the recommendation of what others have said about the book about James Leininger Soul Survivor.It is a very interesting account and one of the best I have seen for reincarnation.


My brother used to talk all the time about his "other family" and his "brother" from the ages of 2-5 but we never wrote it down because I do not think my family believed in reincarnation. Now that I am older and believe, I wish my mom had kept notes on what he said. So I am glad that you are.
