I have always known that my eldest son Ben was special. He has a special "wisdom" about him, so I must admit that what he shared with me isn't surprising and might be nice to share.
A week or so ago we were cuddling in bed (as I do with all of my chilredn) for a few minutes before he fell asleep. We are expecting a new baby, and for some reason we fell on the subject of the "circle of life". Ben then said to me "Mummy, you know, it's alright to die, but that's not all there is. After about 20 years or so you get reborn again. I myself have had many many lives. God just erases your past life from your mind before you are reborn so that you can start learning all over again."
Of course I asked him if he remembered any of these past lives, and he said "Mummy, I told you, God erases them. The only reason I remember now is because I figured that out in my last life". With that he drifted off to sleep.
A few days later, Ben was getting out of the shower, and we were alone in the bathroom. He was in a quiet, thoughtfull mood, so while I brushed my hair I asked him if he remembered our "past life" conversation. He said "oh yes". I told him that I found it really interesting and invited him to share if he ever remembered anything. He said, "Well, I do remember one thing. I remember my other mother...you know, the one before you. She looked a bit like Aunt Trish but she was thinner...a really skinny lady. She had long brown hair (we are all blonde in our family), and she never cut it like you do Mummy. She only wore dresses...only dresses and sometimes skirts." As he said this he gestured with his hands, and noticed his own hands. He then said "She always had short nails, like a man's....not long like yours Mummy...she also had lots of bags under her eyes. I was a cross between Timmy (his little brother) and Hayden (a dark haired friend from school)." So I asked him if he only remembered being a child. He said "Well....I remember drinking beer with my friends all the time, so I guess I did grow up....yes, I guess I did. But then I died, and that was it. I was in an accident or something. I don't know if it was a car or a plane or something, but I just died and that was it." I asked a few questions about the accident but he simply said "Mummy, you have to remember that this was like a century ago you know...I can't remember". With that, he asked if he could go play a game on the computer.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could probe this further with my son?
Many thanks for reading and sharing!!
