I would love some help on an issue I have no idea how to deal with. I have a seven-year-old daughter, Lily. She's extremely bright and quite normal socially, but something has been bothering me and a friend of mine thinks it might have to do with a past life of hers.

Ever since Lily could talk, she's been known to lapse into a distinctly Irish accent. When she was five I found her crying, and when I asked her what was wrong she told me in that heavy accent, "Me mum told me not to play with the fire... It was my fault!" I was shocked. When she gets mad, she'll yell with the accent, and after studying Ireland in her second grade class, she came home, opened a book on Ireland, and pointed to a little wood house on the moors. "That's like where I used to live," she told me decidedly.

Is she making it up? What should I believe? I don't, personally, believe in reincarnation, but a friend recommended this website and I'm writing in hopes that someone will be able to help me. I'm at my wit's end. Thank you.

Hi Nora--

You posted a response regarding my son and Eric Walton.
I don't doubt that your daughter is reincarnated. I'm new to this whole thing myself. I replied to you on my posting as well. I'd like to talk with you.

Hi Nora

Welcome to the forum

In my personal opinion, your daughter seems to be displaying signs that suggest she is remembering a past life/s…Do you think there is any reason she would make these things up otherwise??? Being you stated you don’t believe in reincarnation, I’m gathering there’s no reason why your daughter would think or know about the area or subject either …so you must honestly ask yourself – WHY would she be making it up??? Where would she get this information from, if it is not a “truth” known to her???

There are many threads in this section alone similar to your own, that you may enjoy reading over and looking into a little…maybe what some other mothers have written will also jog your memory of other incidents where Lily has displayed similar “remembrances”.

As to being at your wits end – I’m really sorry to hear that…but you know, there are loads of great people here, who are great listeners, and willing to help in any way they can…so just ask away to your hearts content and keep your mind open

Thank you. I was brought up Catholic, so reincarnation is against my religion, but I can't explain it any other way. Last night, after writing to this forum, I went and asked Lily about her house in Ireland. She closed her eyes and began to tell me about "the green hills with stones all over them", and how "the banshies sang" for her and her family after she was playing with fire. I don't know what a banshy is, or if I'm spelling it correctly, but it would be much appreciated if anyone could tell me what it means, because after telling me that she burst into tears and refused to speak another word.

Welcome Nora-Light

The word 'Banshee' also spelled 'Banshie' or 'Banshi' means --

In Irish and Scottish folklore, a Banshee is a supernatural being, believed to take the shape of an old woman who foretold death by mournfully singing and wailing outside a dwelling.

This is just a dictionary definition of the word..usually within old cultures these definitions expand to mean much much more.

Is it possible she was forewarned by a Banshee of her death? And failed to listen?
And then the 'old woman' sang to her family after? Very interesting indeed!!!!!

I asked Lily what she meant by her comment about the banshee. She told me that her 'other' mom had told her stories about the banshees who sang when someone died, and then she started crying again. Now that I think about it, when she was younger, her grandmother passed away and I tried to explain the concept of death to her. She looked at me and said, "I know already". If this is all from a past life, which I have to admit all points lead to, I believe it still hurts her. I've heard of regression, where the subject is walked backwards in time by a guide and revisits their past life, but Lily's too young for that. What should I do? I don't want it to bother her anymore.

Nora_Light,

I know reincarnation is a hard concept to accept after being told all your life that it doesn't happen. When it all-of-a-sudden lands in your lap, it's not always the easiest thing to deal with. When I first came across a foreign concept to my religion (existentialism), I became extremely depressed. To think that maybe there wasn't a God and that all the gods and devils that people were worshipping were just made up by man truly stunned me. After a while, I decided to just FEEL the truth and it came to me that there was a God, but he wasn't the way that my religion (Baptist) painted him. When I discovered the idea of reincarnation, it excited me because it seemed much more realistic that God would give you several lifetimes to get it right rather than expect you to choose the right way to live in one lifetime and, if you don't, you get to spend eternity in a fiery hell. The idea of a loving God didn't seem to fit into this picture of hellfire and damnation, but it fit reincarnation. I had always felt there was something not quite right about my religion, even when I knew there were SOME good things about it too. Read the article on this site titled "Dogma Bites Man" if you haven't already.

It might help you see how and why religion tends to cover up some of the truths that are out there.

Regarding your daughter, definitely take notes. I would see about contacting a reputable hypnotherapist (she isn't too young). Make sure they will allow you to be with her and that they explain exactly what will happen. Also make sure they will try to get her to experience the happenings from a distance so they won't be too distressing for her (one example I've heard is having the person being hypnotised see the experience as a movie rather than feeling the experiences firsthand).

Whenever she talks about her past life and any pain, reassure her and let her know it was in the past and that she can learn from her past and use it to make better decisions in this life. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job already by believing her even when it doesn't fit in with your beliefs.

Good luck and God bless,

Karen

Hi Nora,

Have you read Carol Bowman's book. . Children's Past Lives??
She has some wonderful stories and some solutions for parent's who have children that remember their past lives.

I don't know where you live, but Ms. Bowman will be in Phoenix, Arizona on October 7th to present an afternoon seminar on Children's Past Lives. If you would like more information about this event, feel free to e-mail me at:
MishkaPR@aol.com

Best Wishes,
Liz Dawn

Hi Nora,

Maybe you could encourage her to draw pictures of her memories? Art is a wonderful way for children to help 'you see' what they remember.

Maybe ask her to draw her house..her mom, her surroundings etc. Then and even if you cannot tell what they are..ask her to tell YOU about the pictures.

Another thought -- Are you aware of using "Selective Awareness" as a means to access memories? I can forward some info to you if not..it is a little more gentle, and open than hypnotherapy if you are concerned.

Selective awareness? I've never heard of it... if you think it would be of any help, would you mind posting some information about it? I took Lily shopping for some back-to-school clothes, and she showed me a cute plaid skirt. "Look, mommy," she said, "It's my clan's tartan. From before." I didn't know what she meant by her clan's tartan, but she seemed so attached to the skirt I bought it for her. Does anyone have any idea what this means? Thanks for helping.

HI Nora,

Dictionary definition -- tartan First appeared circa 1500

1: a plaid textile design of Scottish origin consisting of stripes of varying width and color usu. patterned to designate a distinctive clan.

2 a : a twilled woolen fabric with tartan
design

b : a fabric with tartan design

I will have to post the info about Selective Awareness over the weekend or maybe tomorrow.I've got classes all evening.

Hi Nora

You may find the following links of interest…both are sites of shops in Scotland that have a whole database of tartans and their clans and history…you can search by name or colour, etc

House of Tartan
