do you believe in ghosts?

Has anyone ever been scared by the prospect of seeing a ghost, then after seeing one, realized that the experience wasn't as terrifying as they imagined it would be?
I'll admit that what others call "the gift" of seeing people who have passed on would strike me more as being a curse, but the one time I did see an apparition (as opposed to seeing a past life face superimposed on a current one, which I've also "seen") it was our our old family dog Rocky retiring to his post behind an easy chair. There could hardly be anything less terrifying than the comforting spirit of this loyal beagle doing just what we'd expect him to do -- stand guard over the house until my parents got a new dog. (Other people in my family have seen/heard his ghost as well!)

I have mentioned about the little girl that has appeared to my son. And recently over the weekend I had a small experience. The computer is in the living room and my son wanted to use it. So I was about to log off and let him use it. I felt a tap on my shoulder; I turned real quick cause I knew my son was standing a good 4 feet away. He just stood there waiting for to let him sit down. I laughed and told him "will, your little girl wants me off quick so you can use it". I do not know if this will be a one time thing. But I do not mind her at all. If she needs help crossing over one day, I hope we can find out how to do that for her. We never know when we will feel her presence. So we will just see what happens.

Has anyone seen Rocky since the new dog has come to live there? I would love for you to keep us posted.

How do you talk to someone? I have been wondering if I go sit quitely in my sons room and think of the little girl if that will help her come. But if she did I would not know what to do to help her cross. If that is what she needs.

To all:

I think we try to make sense of stuff we see and when we can not, we think it is our mind playing tricks on us. Some times it might be our mind being tricky. But when others including our pets feel it, then it has to be more than just our mind. :freak:

Spirits (or Ghosts) have had a long history with mirrors, this is why I surmise, years ago, people covered mirrors when someone died, so (perhaps) not to see a Ghost or maybe so the Ghost couldn't see anything familiar looking and stick around.

And the computer screen is reflective like a mirror, so it is very possible that was a Spirit reflected in the computer screen.

But what makes the possibility even stronger is that your dog reacted to it too, and in doing so validated it also, so it was not just you, and that gives me more of a reason to think it was a Spirit.

Often times (at least to me it does) working and concentrating at a computer throws me into a kind of "altered consciousness" much like hypnosis, which makes me seem to be more receptive to sensing Spirits visually (almost always out of the corner of my eye).

Often times I've been startled when I sensed someone was standing next to me, but upon looking, there was no one, and I live alone.

Either there is a lot of Spirits curious at what I'm doing (really very boring) or somebody passed over is trying to contact me. :)

I personally talk to them in my mind. If they were still alive, I would be using telepathy. But since they are spirit, speaking audibly isn't necessary. It's not that they possess us or anything [unless we let them get too close] but they can read our minds. And it's the same [at least for me] when they talk back. Sometimes it will be a clearly audible word or sound, but most times it's just like a foreign thought. And sometimes it will just be impressions. I think it depends on how open you are, and also maybe how advanced the spirit is? I would try doing just that though. Go and sit and wait for her. And if she shows up, try talking to her [out loud or not - I don't think it matters] and if she doesn't show up, well, then there's always tomorrow. ;)

And I know what you mean about pets sensing things. When my husband [then fiance] and I were staying in his cousin's house babysitting his nephews, there was a lot that went on, ghost-wise. Doors would open by themselves all the time, even when they were locked, and I was seeing things and hearing things, and just a lot, too much to mention right now. But at night, when the dog was caged at the end of the hall and we were in bed in a room next to that hall, I would start to sense the presence of one of the not-so-nice entities in the hallway, and the dog would be quiet until after I sensed her, and then the dog would start yelping and jumping around like it was scared.

Also, cats can definitely sense things. They say it's good to keep one with you for that reason. They also sense when someone is sick or emotionally hurt, but they are very sensitive to spirits...

Oh, and to answer the original question by the thread poster, I believe that we all reincarnate at some point, but that some of us linger longer in between lives, because of unfinished business, or attachments. It might be possible that some spirits are so attached that they never leave, but I don't know. Also, time does not exist to spirits, so someone could be a 'ghost' for centuries and still believe they have just died. That's just my opinion.

What is a ghost?

Basically, a ghost is the etheric double of the physical body which separates at the time of death. It only lasts for as long as the deteriorating physical body still exists. In the case of bodily cremation for instance, the etheric double will disappear within a few hours. In the case of mummification or embalming, the etheric may last for many many years.

There is an excellent treatise on this subject to be found at:

A ghost is a projection of image or sound that is left in the energy of a place. It's not necessarily created by a person who is dead - it can be created by the strong energy of an event that happens. If there is no conscious activity involved, it's called a residual ghost - like a film running when the conditions are right. If there is activity that clearly involves conscious decisions, such as communication or action that reacts to what the living people in the space are doing, that's often just called an active ghost.

Now, I have heard accounts of ghost activity from a past personality when there are claims that the person has reincarnated. What do you all think of that possibility?

If the soul has already reincarnated, then it is likely that activity is a residual haunting rather than an conscious apparition. A conscious entity haunting a particular location for a long period of time is actually quite rare.

At the risk of sounding like a 60's New Age Hippy, I think there is a lot to be said for vibrations and being in "resonance" with certain places or situations, which would render some people sensitive to extrasensory experiences. Those experiences or phenomenon could, conceivably, be caused by conscious entities, or they could be caused by some sort of residual energy. However, I tend to think that residual energy, itself, is a form of consciousness that is still connected in some way to conscious entities.
