Emily won't take a bath

It's just a thought, but at 2 and a half years old, there is a good chance that Emily may have been trying to say a word that sounds to us adults like 'body bog', when in actual fact she could be trying to say something entirely different, I'm thinking of little Jasmine with her 'brilly tin' in the Camel thread for example (posts #58-#60), there's every chance that she was meaning to say 'brillantine', but being so young it can be difficult to form the words properly, I was thinking that this could be a similar scenario that Emily is in now. I've been trying to think of any other words that sound similar to 'body bog'. What do you think? It's just something worth bearing in mind. Thanks for the updates

Yep, Chris. I know just what you mean. My husband was nearby so I called him over and asked her to tell Daddy what she told me, to make sure I heard right. He heard what I did, but just to be sure, we asked "ball?" "hog?" and some other jumbled phrases. She just looked at us as if we were idiots and said, "No! Body bog."

At 2 1/2 I was really surprised that she came up with the word "bog," much less "body bog." :eek: My husband and I are both history buffs, but I'm certain she would not have seen anything like that at home.

I'm just trying to put two and two together here. She is afraid of bath time and it's because of the "body bog."


You do realize the recovered bodies of drowning victims are often placed in "body bags"?
 
I thought I had responded to this long ago, but I guess I never found the time.


In regards to the "body bag" suggestion, I suppose it is possible, but I don't think it is very likely that is what she meant. Emily has always been very verbal. She speaks so clearly and with such a large vocabulary, that people often think she is much older than she is. She said "body bog" and I took her at her word, especially after she became so irritated with us for trying to suggest that she had said something else.


Many months have passed, but Emily has not really shed much light on this comment. I believe it to be from a past life long ago, but I don't really have anything to base this feeling on, other than my gut. Emily has mentioned that it is the sound of the tub draining that she does not like. It is sort of a 'glug glug' sound.


The "Mommy's bath" comment might have been something I was doing that sparked this memory, or it might refer to something else, such as a more recent life. I don't think I will ever know for sure. Emily seems to have moved on now. I do not believe it had anything to do with the life just before this one, though. I am certain that Emily was my Grandmother, and she at least, was not afraid of the water.
