Faces in the mirror

I had an interesting experience with faces not my own in the mirror, and I'm wondering what the point of seeing such things might be?

Recently I read of a therapy where you look in the mirror and talk to yourself about the things you want to change in life and why the changes aren't happening. They said it was a good way to get around the conscious mind and persuade the unconscious of new ideas.

I didn't read up on it much, just thought ... "Hmmm.... I wonder if I could talk to myself as if I were a friend, and respond to facial expressions to read what I might not otherwise notice about my reactions?"

I had some time, so I settled in front of the mirror and started to think things through out loud. It was late, and I was tired so at first I didn't notice when my expression started going angry. Deep furrows, the tension around the eyes, etc. I didn't feel angry at all, rather relaxed actually, so I was surprised. I checked my emotions again. All calm. Just this random facial expression.

So I talked about reasons I might be angry for a bit, then reviewed all the positive events that have come along that make the difficulties meaningful. Things smoothed out after a bit, but then my face started shifting again ... like, seriously changing as if it were made out of clay and being shaped by an artist.

I couldn't actually focus on the faces to see them like you would if you were looking at a tangible person. Moving my eyes too much made the faces vanish. I couldn't figure out what they were, though. It's not like they came with additional information. Just facial expressions and incredibly unique face shapes and details.

There was an aged woman with kind eyes, her face all furrowed with deep grooves, the way people look when they've lived full and long. An Asian beauty with smooth, dark hair and makeup who seemed very familiar.

Several men of various races and facial shapes, one with something that looked like tattoos that deepened the lines of the face while shifting them just enough to radiate out like an x or a * away from the bridge of the nose. One of the men seemed to be speaking; his mouth moved but I couldn't read his lips without losing focus, so it was more of a motion on the edge of my vision.

It was a very calm interaction. I felt like this ought to be normal, in a way. But now I have no idea what the point was. Was I seeing past lives? Reflections of parts of myself? Spirits? Guides? The subconscious of other living people? I really don't know.

I tried talking to them from various perspectives, and I was able to reach them enough to change their facial expressions, like with the one who was angry.

A lot of the reading I've done since turns this type of experience into "magic" or "connecting with the dead" and warns of possession and other freakish events which just don't feel at all right to me.

First, my higher self maintains the borders of my soul, and I have guardians of the spirit who help me remain safe from the other side. I intentionally choose to shield myself from fear-based patterns of interaction and thought because they are uselessly damaging and I can't see any value in allowing myself to continue in that mindset. Ill health and emotional instability certainly follow those choices, and the physical response is immediate enough that I can catch it early these days and shift to a stronger internal stance.

Second, I went in to talk to "myself" so I'm of the opinion that whatever I found must have something to do with me or individuals I'm deeply connected to somehow.

Any thoughts? Has this happened to you?

I think is very possible that the "faces" you were seeing were of past lives.

How do you feel?

A few of them could fit known past lives, at least as far as gender and general racial indicators. I haven't remembered the aged wise-woman life (unless the 'embodied goddess' life lived a lot longer than I thought she did).

I haven't spent much time thinking about what I might have looked like, aside from basic things like gender and clothing styles. Interesting thought. Hmmm...

Yes. I've done this myself. I think they're past lives. It's best done in fairly dim lighting and, yes, it is spooky but I don't think there's any danger in doing it, unless you're easily startled.

I believe this has haunted most of my life

This why I hate the mirror because I don't

who I will see , most of my life, it's been who
