Fear of certain traditions?

My son and I were at the National Aboriginal Day Celebration in our town today.
My Great great grandmother was Native Canadian and I have always been facinated with the traditions of First Nations people.

Anyway, my son started hearing the singing and the beating of the drums and was so upset. He had a hold of me like he was scared for his well being. He also seemed to be startled by the people dressed in the 'native dress. I could tell that he was very uncomfortable being there. I wanted to stay so badly and I really thought that he would enjoy this experience because all of the other children were dancing around with the beat of the drum. We left and he didn't even ask me any questions about what went on at all.
When I asked him if he liked any of it, he shook his head no. Then I asked if he like the way they were dressed because I thought they looked wonderful, He said, "Would you stop!"

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

PS I would also like to say the my family is Scottish, and my son heard bagpipes for the first time when he was 15 months old. I thought he'd be scared, but he absolutely loved them! He wanted to follow the pipers around. So, I know he doesn't mind loud music.

Dear Karen,

Perhaps he remembers a past life in which he was killed or persecuted for being a native. Thia has happened to many people I know.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply. I never really thought of it that way. But it could just be.
The reason that I thought differently, was because, while researching the family history on his father's side I discovered something interesting. I came across some information on ancesters (with the same family name) who were driven out of their village in the US by natives and killed.

But your reply makes more sense to me because the events today were for a celebration.
