For those of us who seem to not remember our past lives, or have any visions

themword

Something clever.
Do you think there is a reason why we don't have any memory of them? Could it perhaps be too traumatic or are we just not trying hard enough? Because while I feel like I totally have lived before, I haven't had any names or dates come to mind, nor have I recognized specific faces or events. I wonder why that is.

Until recently I didn't remember a thing of my PLs... I guess it really depends on how the state of mind is, because without even an inkling of proof for it, those of us that started as skeptics of Reincarnation.

I always felt a pull towards some parts of the past though.. 50s-70s.... 1930s, I don't feel as much of a push towards the 20s as I do the 30s...the Old West... Revolutionary USA, Civil War.. and certain parts of European History fascinate me. I never felt much of an interest in British history or Asian history..

You are probably not stimulating the right neuron pathways. Try different methods and see what works better for you. We all work different.

I spent a couple years meditating for the sake of my health before I even tried to regress,... because I didn't believe in past lives at the time. This is the qualifier I should put on my "I suddenly accessed the memories when I realized I could." It may be that meditation quietly prepared my mind ahead of time.

For techniques others have used, I found this to be a very useful thread.

How exactly would I go about that?
Well just trying different methods people use. There are some articles describing different methods here

It's like studying, we all have different techniques to remember the information better. Don't forget also to keep a dream journal.

Hi themword,

In my view there's nothing so very mysterious or difficult about past life recall. I actually think a lot more people have past life memories than you might think, but they don't recognise it for what it is. Sure, some people are better at it than others, but like most things, it is something that can be learned and practised.

Sometimes thoughts will pop into people's heads, in response to a trigger like a song, a smell or visiting a place for the first time, but they will dismiss them as imagination or day dreams. People have vivid or recurring dreams, but they discount them as 'just' dreams. People will have images flash through their minds before falling asleep, but they ignore them. Sometimes you might 'just know' something, even if you don't know why. You meet someone who feel like you've known 'forever' the minute you set eyes on them. All these experiences could well be related to past life memory.

The ability to recall specific details like names and dates does take a bit more practice. Many people here have been experimenting with meditation techniques for many years to get to the point where they can pull up this kind of detail, but pretty much anyone can do it with a bit of patience and application.

Interesting. I definitely have friendships where we bonded instantly. I have a very close friend that I've had a pretty complicated romance with (there's a huge story attached to that) where I knew we had a connection the second I laid eyes on him, and he's been one of my best friends for the last 7 years. There's this fight between us because there's this passion and deep friendship, but he's not good for me romantically. My friendships are very passionate.

... so when you say you feel like you 'totally have lived before' what does this mean? Do you have any kind of feeling or intuition about when or where? Do you have a fascination for a particular historical period or culture? This is the way to get 'in' - to start with what you've already got and build upon that.

Good. This is a great place to start.

So, if you were going to just 'make up a story' about when you might have known him before, how would it be? Just sit quietly for a bit, close your eyes and 'day dream' or pull out a notebook and start writing, or whatever works for you. Just let whatever comes to mind come. What would he be wearing? What would he be doing? What country would you be in? What would be your relationship? How do you feel about it all?

It might start off feeling a bit silly or like a movie you've seen before or something, but don't worry about that. Just stick with it and you might be surprised what 'pops out' if you just let it come.

I'll give it a shot. :) I'm sure I'm just clueless to all the signs lol.

Just give it a try. There's no great magic or mystery to any of this in my view. It's just memories, just somewhat older than you're used to.

You know when you are trying to remember something and you can't and you keep trying, until you almost push it away from trying too hard? Then sometimes, you have given up trying, and a couple of hours later 'pop!' - there it is! It can be like this with past life memories too. So don't get discouraged if nothing comes straight away. Don't try to force it. Just trust yourself that it's in there 'somewhere'. Don't be surprised if all of a sudden something just clicks, even a day or two later, and you just 'know'.

For 'practice', to get warmed up, you can try just closing your eyes and seeing what is the earliest thing you can remember from this life - maybe your first day of school or when you got a puppy for your birthday, or whatever you can remember fairly well. Really see it clearly. Smell the smells. Feel the feelings. Who else was there? What was going on in the background ... really 'be there' just for a few moments. It's good 'exercise' for the memory and for the concentration, both of which you need for past life recall.

I've felt that I've lived before since I was very young, but I don't recall ever having flashbacks or snippets or anything up until I started looking into the theory of past lives in depth this year :)

I think once you open yourself up to the possibilities and such, it will flow through you much easier. Like opening a dam~

Themword, now personally I have had a number of flashbacks in this life. And most of these flashbacks that I have had has come about when I least expected it. Now it might be that these flashbacks don't come when we are trying too hard. But maybe when one is relaxing and is just doing there thing, it might come about when one most least expects it. And again this is the way with me it seems, it comes when I least expect it. And it is always with me in vivid full dimensional living color.

Like for instance, onetime I was in a certain canyon in Southern Utah being quiet, taking it all in, and meditating one morning. Nearby was an old anazazi indian ruin. Later when I leaving, I had one of these flashbacks that lasted for like a minute or two. And during this time I saw myself as myself as a Fremont Anasazi male in old precontact times and everything. Really Quite Vivid!

Then several years ago here in the Yellowstone region when I was hiking around in late summer had another flashback. I had been thinking this day quite abit of the past with the days of the Mountain Shoshone (Sheepeaters) Indians and the first days of the Yellowstone Park and the first rangers and tourists. Then I had a deep vivid in depth flashback that actually remained with me until the end of the day. I could see my past life self and ask questions in the spirit world on that life. I only came back to the full present when I got back to a nearby gravel road and some big truck passed me on the road. During this time it was almost like I had been transported back in time even though I was in the present. It was really amazing. And here is the link to when I posted on this several years ago ...

Now have had other flashbacks also. But they usually come when I least expect it it seems and am in the proper frame of mind for this flashback can come up to the surface so to speak. Do think we might at times try to hard. And does this somehow block us from having a flashback or info. on our past lives when we try to hard to know? Just possibly.

Hope this helps. Wishing Everyone the Best!

I think finding out past lives is different for everybody. I certainly had a difficult time researching them and I have been studying since the early 90's. Its about spiritual growth, making peace with your current life, meditation, intuition, and so on. Only when your mind is clear and strong enough you will receive information. The universe wants us to work on our inner selves. :-)

I tend to get spontaneous flashbacks when my mind is in 'neutral' - when I'm not doing anything in particular, like just gardening or hanging out the washing or something like that, when I'm not particularly distracted by anything and just in a relaxed frame of mind.

I don't get a deeply 'spiritual' feeling about the whole thing personally. I might get a 'shivery' feeling or an emotional jolt. To me it just feels like a memory and perfectly natural occurrence, but everyone is different. Maybe I'm not very 'sensitive' on that level.

I had some luck with the guided PLR's and the one in person session with the hypnotherapist. But lately with the guided PLRs, all I do is either fall asleep or get nothing. It's kind of discouraging, because I know there are things that could help me with this life, but I just can't bring them out.

For those inclined to doze off during meditations (a common problem!) sometimes sitting upright can help. Try sitting in a chair that is comfortable, but not too comfortable, like a kitchen or dining chair. Find a time and a place during the day when you feel relatively relaxed, where you won't be interrupted or distracted during the day for half an hour or so.
