Good vs. evil incarnations

Ailish said:
I personally don't believe that it's "natural" to be selfish. I think -- we've fallen so far away from our true selves -- and our true purpose that many people have chosen to become caught up in themselves -- and that manifests in selfish behavior.
I didn´t mean selfish in that way to do everything only for yourself, and don´t care about anyone else.

I love my friends and family, I love to make them happy!

I meant that to do things for yourself isn´t bad. When you want to be happy,

it´s not bad.

Do you believe in Darwin´s theory? I do. And so I believe in something like "animal naturalness". That says all.

Ailish said:
Some people operate from a place of anger or fear – and some people choose to live with love and compassion in their hearts.
This sounds as though you say "someone is black and someone white". That´s what - imo - nobody is.

Ailish said:
Imo – there is not one person out there who can claim they haven’t made a mistake – in their present lives or in past lives. The trick is to forgive yourself – and to take what you learned from it to apply it in a positive way NOW.
:) erm, well I surely sometime made a mistake, that what you call "mistake". But for me, as I tried to explain,

nothing I did is mistake, so far I didn´t kill anyone. And even if I did...

You don´t know whether the person wasn´t seriously ill and didn´t desire it,

or he tried to kill me...You never know. (Sure I didn´t kill anyone in fact ;) )

I have had a reason for everything I did. I know why I did it.

So how could it be a mistake? it´s a process which leads to do the things the way

I want it.

Ailish said:
I believe -- we've always been "one." We are individuals – but we also all come from the same Source
Yeah, I´ve heard about it. That would mean that it doesn´t matter whether you´re alive or dead, doesn´t matter who you became and what you think. (You probably don´t think so.)

I believe that after death we are somewhere where our spirit (or something like our basic) "wait" for another incarnation. I´m not sure though, I will never be sure.

I consider everyone as individual. And yes, I value someone more than other. And yes, I don´t love everyone.

Ailish said:
So…..you want to create from a place of violence, anger, despair? You want drama and suffering? I surely don’t.
No! sure not! That´s what I wanted to explain...

I just don´t want the world to be just "good". It couldn´t ever happen anyway.

I coudn´t even imagine but maybe people would be sad, having no sense of life.

Just loving couldn´t be enough for everyone. Could there still be passion?

Besides people usually aren´t "bad" because they want, some things just happen.

Ailish said:
Love. Isn’t that the most beautiful thing we can hope to experience in any lifetime?
How about making yourself happy? How about being loved – and loving others unconditionally – never having to worry, but just knowing that whatever happens – you are loved.
Only love? I know, love is just beautiful! I know it is!

But the only thing you would have known in life would be love?

Be loved all life long? Nothing to seek for? Every day would be the same?

As Sylvia Plath said: I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in life.

Hi Ewanecka,

Ewanecka said:

That’s not what I am saying at all. In all of the courses of taken in psychology, and in all of the books I’ve read it has been stated that there are only two primary emotions – and every other emotion stems from one or the other. Love and Fear.

Gary Zukav states:
“The human emotional system can be broken down into two elements: fear and love. Love is of the soul. Fear is of the personality. The illusion of each personality is generated by and sustained by the emotions that follow fear, such as anger, rage, vengefulness, hatred, jealousy or envy…

Emotions such as these lead to corresponding behaviors, such as selfishness – toward people and animals and the Earth – and using others in the many ways that humans use one another. When the personality is unconscious, every emotion of fear, or that follows fear, produces a negative behavior, a behavior that creates negative karma for the soul.

The choice we have is to learn through fear and doubt, or through wisdom, between the lower- frequency energy currents of the personality and the higher-frequency energy currents of the soul. If the anger of one personality creates distance, shatters intimacy and causes defensiveness, the anger of one nation or religion, or sex toward another produces the same. If the concern of one personality for another produces closeness, appreciation and mutual regard, the concern of one nation, or community for another produces the same. The dynamic is identical.”
Ewanecka said:

Ummmm….would you mind clarifying what you mean by that comment?

Ewanecka said:

Why couldn’t it?

Gregg Braden says:
“From the monasteries of Egypt and Tibet to the forgotten texts of our most cherished traditions we are reminded that we are part of, rather than separate from, the world around us. As part of everything we see, we have the power to participate — not control or manipulate — but to consciously chart the course of our lives and our world.

The authors of the Dead Sea Scrolls -- the ancient Essenes -- were very clear that the world around us mirrors the feelings, emotions, and perceptions we hold inside our bodies. Today, it is common knowledge that feelings affect our immune system. And quantum physicists are saying that those effects extend to the world around us. Emotion is the power source, but it is scattered until thought gives it direction.

It is through our body, heart and mind that we experience our thoughts, feelings and emotions. While we may sense little control over our perceptions, it is through our link to our perceptions that we may choose the quality of our experience. Through the logic of our mind we must know this peace to be true. We must prove it to ourselves, demonstrating the viability of peace in our lives and in our world. Through the strength of our hearts, we must then desire this peace in all that we experience. Peace already exists in our world. We are challenged to seek it out, to find peace even in places where it may look as if peace does not exist. It is through our bodies that we express our minds and hearts. We choose the actions that we offer the world.
You are correct that I don’t hold to Darwin’s theory – although I do realize that as spiritual beings, we are constantly going through a metamorphosis and continually evolving – in consciousness. Perhaps now more than ever.

Zukav states:
“Within our species there are degrees of soul consciousness. The significance of the evolution of responsibility is that each human being moves through levels of responsibility on its way to wholeness. In other words, as a soul chooses the lessons of responsibility, it will find itself incarnating into an atmosphere of more potential impact upon the species. If you are not consciously ready, you will not be put into a position to impact many for the protection of your own soul.

As souls choose to participate consciously in more inclusive levels of interaction, they take on not only their own transformation, but also those of the larger collectives in which they participate. Think of your consciousness in terms of physical light. That light shines, but a brighter light shines over a wider range, and a dimmer light shines on a smaller range. The extent to which your light shines is the width and depth and breadth of your karmic influence. If you are a major light you shine upon the entire globe.
Ewanecka said:

I believe the primary goal of the soul – is love.

“An authentically empowered person lives in love. Love is the energy of the soul. Love is what heals the personality. There is nothing that cannot be healed by love. There is nothing but love. Love is not a passive state. It is an active force. It is the force of the soul. Love does more than bring peace where there is conflict. It brings a different way of being in the world. It brings harmony and an active interest in the well-being of others. It brings concern and care. It brings Light. It washes away the concerns of the personality. In the Light of love there is only love.” Gary Zukav

Hi Ewanecka

I have read such arguments as yours before. It goes something like this:-

"But wouldn't a life where nothing ever went wrong be boring?"

"Surely evil is necessary in the world so that we can understand what good is?"

"Suffering is an important part of the human experience because it teaches us compassion".

Don't get me wrong, these are all excellent questions and well worthy of discussion.

I think Darwin's theory of evolution is a very interesting theory for explaining how animal bodies came to be shaped the way they are, but it is irrelevant for trying to understand higher spiritual matters, except perhaps as a metaphor for slow, incremental change. Animals (and I include humans in that group) must do what they must do to survive day to day, but once that is under control, most humans are in the fortunate position to be able to have the time, energy and capacity to worry about more esoteric and abstract and even 'higher' matters - such as love, meaning, good and evil.

If by 'animal naturalness' you mean 'dog eat dog' and 'every man for himself' this in fact, is not even how most animals conduct themselves. Most animals rely heavily on cooperation, certainly within their own species, for survival and human animals are no different. Social Darwinism is a very unfortunate philosophy which came into vogue 100 years or so ago when certain people used it to justify their positions of privilege and power over the weak and less fortunate. I would not be quoting it personally to defend anything as it is a highly specious argument and quickly dismissed.

People are so different, let them be different... Let them choose. How could we be "as one"? I´d become fed up of living in absolute peace quite soon.
Choice is the key. Of course, you can choose what you want to do. Nobody is trying to stop you or advise you or tell you what to do. Certainly not me, anyway. It is up to you. It's your life and there are NO rules to break in my view. If you find love and peace boring. Great! Believe me, I understand what you mean, because I was like that once (a very long time ago). :)

Now I find peace a great ideal to strive towards, even though it may be very difficult to attain. I have no illusions as to how difficult true world peace might be, but I don't call it impossible either. These days I see how marvellous peace can be, how much more energy can be focussed on the important stuff, such as love, rather than on hate, violence, tears and tragedy. I have personally had my fill of those things.

But, each to her own.

Hi Tanguerra and Ailish,

I can´t probably explain it good enough, that´s just how I feel it. Just if we would be somewhere there "one" and we would come back to the "one", it woudn´t matter who we have been. It wouldn´t matter that we even ever existed.

Ailish said:

Ailish, sorry, I don´t want to offend you, but I can´t imagine how you could absorb the science of psychology or what

type of psychology books did you read when you don´t

believe Darwing´s theory. Because many things, many feelings and formulas of behavior come from

prehistoric ages. I´m not sure but I think it´s quite known, at least I´ve read it in the few books about psychology I´ve read (especially in the one about emotional intelligence).

And that´s connected with the 'animal naturalness'.

By the 'animal naturalness' I meant whatever, that human "shadow", which people deny to admit,

but which will ever exist. And if we will deny it more and more, more then reconciling with it and something like compromising, I can´t imagine how unhappy will people in the world be. Yet world will be full of hypocrites!

(But maybe I´m wrong.)

I count there also sex and passion, you can´t disregard it, and it will never disappear. Those "animal feelings" will ever be there, for it is the most human (and so animal) thing people do - imo :)

And I don´t wanna specify it anymore, because I don´t mean anything definite.

I think that what we have been and what we are will be within us ever. Though hidden.

And I, personally, think that people didn´t change since Ancient Egypt or Ancient Rome almost at all. Environment changes, rules changes, but people have been ever almost the same - their emotions, their thoughs, their characters,

their desires, only they´re expressing something more and something less, something they have to hide..,

that depends. I´m not sure though, I might change my mind if I had a reason.

I wonder what would you do in the "peace world" with a potencional threat? To not to let him

disturb your holy peace. For there will always be someone who will not like it. Would you lock up them? Somewhere where would be not seen? That really reminds me the film "Demolition man" :D

For what human makes human there can never be the world you want. So if you want a "good world", you have to kill everybody human :D

tanguerra said:

...Ermm that sounds like you´re saying that you´re kinda further then me :)

I know what you mean. I was also somewhere and I did move up. Though I don´t see it as something like degrees, but rather as paths. So that nothing is lower or higher.

For you can never know whether you really step on. The point of view is always different - after.

Ou i´m not very good in explicating things in English :) But, you know what I mean, don´t you...

Tears and tragedy will ever be there, even illnesses, accidents and disasters cuffice...

Hi Ewanecka,

For what human makes human there can never be the world you want. So if you want a "good world", you have to kill everybody human.
I disagree and am saddened that you think so. :(

Have you read the book or seen the DVD titled The Secret? I highly recommend it. It's about the laws of attraction and HOW we are the creators of reality. You can do a google search for it and read all about it. Aili also gave you some excellent resources; I hope you take the time to look into them.

Hi Ewaneka

I think I understand what you are saying. I know it is hard to make your thoughts very clear when English is not your first language.

Humans are not perfect and will always have their so-called negative behaviours (the 'shadow') and human society therefore can never be 100% peaceful and there will always be suffering, but that is what makes us human and that is what makes life interesting - is that sort of what you mean?

I agree with Deborah it is a rather bleak outlook! I hope we will all continue to do better and live more peaceful and happier lives without the need for violence and disagreement and so on to create excitement.

I don't see anything negative about sex or think that passion should be removed from life however. On the contrary! I don't think you need to have a passionless life to have a peaceful one. Peace and passion and love and enjoyment and fulfillment and happiness can all live very happily together I would have thought. I agree with you that you don't want anything to be compulsory - like in the movie 'Demolition Man' - but that was meant to be a parody. There will always be a place for defence against violent people, but hopefully one day there will be fewer people who choose to be violent, or have any reason to be.

Although, as you say people have not changed all that much from ancient times, as far as their basic urges go, it is not true that society has not improved at all. Actually, it has grown much more kind, compassionate and peaceful (although sometimes I agree progress seems very slow).

There is a lot less institutional violence than there once was for instance. Although torture and capital punishment still exist, now they are in the minority, not the majority. People don't go to public spectacles to watch other people being hanged, burned, tormented or fed alive to wild beasts. I regard this as progress and regard it as a good thing.

Yes, that´s basically what I mean.

I also don´t see anything bad about sex. But people also have their fantasies, which could appear weird for others. Or doesn´t have to appear correct according to future "good" public meaning.

I agree that society has grown much more kind, compassionate and peaceful. But society as a unit.

Though people, their characters and all I wrote above are identical.

Hope you know what I mean.

People are more aware of things, but only as a unit.

People don't go to public spectacles to watch other people being hanged, burned, tormented or fed

alive to wild beasts because they was learned that it´s bad. They know it.

But they have their substitutes...

Yeah, I´m naturalist (from the word "naturalism"). I just watch and don´t try to moralize.

People make the world the way it is. And if they like it, alright. You can´t force them to change it if they don´t want. The most I´m sad about what happens to animals. (That´s what I feel, don´t ask me why).

Btw I can say to myself what is good and what is bad.

Or what should I do and what I should not do. Though I could

still feel it differently. And I don´t think it´s bad by no means. And I don´t think I should fight it back.

Your mind is different?

I will try to borrow the film you recommended somewhere. I tried to find something

about it. Wikipedia is almost always the best source, so I tried it first.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Attraction_%28New_Thought%29

I don´t understand everything but it doesn´t seem to be too flattering.

I don´t deny anything, I´ll try to read more. But at the first glance it appears to have a couple of whitespaces, weak points that can´t be ignored. But maybe it has some explanation that I don´t know about.

Hi Ewanecka,

Ailish, sorry, I don´t want to offend you, but I can´t imagine how you could absorb the science of psychology or what type of psychology books did you read when you don´t believe Darwing´s theory.
You don't offend me -- that's the beauty of open discussion forums. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I'm simply suggesting some other alternatives. ;)

The Secret is a great resource, but I beg to differ that Wikipedia offers really good information. In their "history" section -- they offer little information about the actual history of The Law of Attraction -- and prefer to call it "New Age and New Thought" theories. The Ancients knew about this -- and it can be found in many of the ancient texts. Imo, it cannot be called "New Age" when it's been written about for centuries. : angel

I have a few other thoughts to add -- but have to run to work, so I'll be back later ;)

Dear Ewanecka :)

I am glad to e-meet you in Carol Bowman's e-Forum :)

Please look at the dark-blue toolbar: " User CP, FAQ, ...., Quick Links, Log Out", almost at the top of this webpage.

I suggest you click on "Search v" then enter the word "enantiodromia": you'll get a handful of threads that may answer your question. :)

Please let us know what you think & feel about those threads. :)

Thanks for sharing. :)

Kind regards,

Axel :)

HI,

A direct link to the information about The Secret

The Secret reveals amazing real life stories and testimonials of regular people who have changed their lives in profound ways. By applying The Secret they present instances of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles and achieving what many would regard as impossible.
I agree with Aili - why would you think that Wikipedia is the BEST resource when anyone can simply go in and change the information? You are doing very well with your English BTW. ;)

PS - Can you please relate this thread back to reincarnation?

Axel, thanks for the mentioning enantiodromia, I´m little bit wiser now :)

I don´t want to dissapoint you, but honestly, I mean that my incompleted acceptence of some thoughts only signify that I´m not fully convinced. When only the "crust" of myself is able to admit it, it doesn´t signify an illness :)

(if you meant this thing)

Or you meant the thing with "good and bad"? If so, well I didn´t read all the threads, I confess, but I can´t see the theory, however interesting, helpful in any way.

Ailish,

alright, I don´t deny anything as far as I don´t know all about it. I´ll try to borrow the film, that will be probably the best I can do about this matter.

Deborah said:

I know, I just wanted to have it quick. Sometimes there can be found very interesting and helpful informations, but it doesn´t have to be objective.

Hi Ewanecka,

Ewanecka said:

Of course. :) We are free-will beings. Free to choose our actions, reactions and perceptions. Imo, we are entirely responsible for what we create in our lives -- both NOW and in the future. I was listening to the radio at work this morning and the morning show was discussing The Secret with one of the co-authors of Chicken Soup for the Soul. She said that the average human has 68,000 thoughts per day – and 80% of those are negative. No wonder there’s so much unhappiness in the world. The problem is – most of the time people don’t even realize that they are being negative.

Ewanecka said:
I wonder what would you do in the "peace world" with a potencional threat? To not to let him disturb your holy peace. For there will always be someone who will not like it. Would you lock up them? Somewhere where would be not seen?
Absolutely not. They have free-will as well. If they are choosing to use it in a negative way – so be it. I still view them with compassion. ;) I also refuse to live in fear. If you are focused on something negative happening to you (for example, you are scared to drive a car, always worrying about getting into an accident) then surely those thoughts take precedence – and at some point you will draw it towards you. Thoughts are very powerful and attention follows intention.

Ewanecka said:
So if you want a "good world", you have to kill everybody human.
Not at all. You just need to teach them compassion and love – to help them raise their conscious understanding of the preciousness of the gift that is – life. To empower them - by helping to realize that they always have a choice -- and the ability to create positive change in their lives. Once people learn to look within, it seems their perceptions and values change as they fall away from ego of the personality and embrace their true essence. ;)

“A personality with limitations of consciousness will find what we call evil more attractive than will one with a more expanded awareness. The temptation to walk that way will be strong for such a personality. All souls are tempted, but an individual with limitations of consciousness will find it more attractive to walk into the negative magnetic field of fear because it would not recognize fear for what it is.
How we understand evil, therefore, is very significant. Evil needs to be understood for what it is: the dynamic of the absence of Light. The existence of darkness is not permanent.

A soul with no Light will always come to know Light because there is so much assistance provided to each soul at all times. What we call evil is the absence of Light, of love, in all cases

What is the appropriate response to evil?

The remedy for absence is presence. Evil is an absence and therefore it cannot be healed with an absence. By hating evil, or one who is engaged in evil, you contribute to the absence of Light and not to its presence. Hatred of evil does not diminish its presence, it increases it.

The absence of Light causes the personality to suffer. There is pain. When you hate, you bring that suffering upon yourself. Hatred of evil affects the one who hates.

A compassionate heart can engage evil directly – it can bring Light where there was no Light.

Understanding evil as the absence of Light requires you examine the choices you make each moment in terms of whether they move you toward the Light or away from it. It allows you to look with compassion upon those who engage in evil activities, even as you challenge their activities, and thus protects you from the creation of negative karma. It permits you to see that the place to begin the task of eliminating evil is within yourself. This is the appropriate response to evil.”

That's the wonderful thing about reincarnation -- it allows us the opportunity to keep growing and learning. It's a continual process. If I look back on some of my pl's -- I can see patterns that I've created -- but also see lessons I've learned. Hopefully...I'm applying them in a positive way in this life -- so I can create a better tomorrow - not just for myself, but for everyone. ;)

erm, I know you mean it good. but what is better tomorrow for you doesn´t have to be better tomorrow for everyone, you know. Although it could appear as a nice goal.

alright, but, and you might take it as a fault, I refuse seeing (for example) world or people as good, when I don´t feel it that way just because it´s convenient. but that´s my choise.

They only will be sad about how bad they are. About their desires or feelings they can´t make disappear by marking it "bad". And I don´t have in mind anyone or anything definite.

(But I think I already wrote something like that.)

I am not saying the choices that I make are the right choices for everyone else. BUT I firmly believe that those who choose better – will benefit – as will others that are around them. I truly believe in the saying “BE the change you want to see in the world.” Imo – in the NOW I am creating a better future – for myself and for those I love. We’ll all be back again. Simple as that.

I understand that it’s difficult for some people to grasp the concepts of positive thinking and creating consciously. I hope one day – more people get it. I certainly have noticed a deeper interest and understanding thanks to books/dvd’s like The Secret. ;)

Of course it’s your choice. As I previously stated – you are the one creating your life’s story. How you choose to perceive things around you – is always your choice. I simply have faith – that humanity will prevail. I don’t believe people are inherently “bad.” And even those society labels as being “bad” have some good inside them. But that is only my opinion – it is how I choose to see my world. ;)

People’s words definitely have the power to hurt others – but one needs to recognize that just because someone says it – doesn’t make it true. When you choose to believe the negative things others say about you – in essence you are giving them power over you. People need to learn to take their power back.

Ailish

Beautiful Ailish.

People’s words definitely have the power to hurt others – but one needs to recognize that just because someone says it – doesn’t make it true. When you choose to believe the negative things others say about you – in essence you are giving them power over you. People need to learn to take their power back.
A powerful example it is not the external circumstances of someone's life (or the world, or society, or family, or whatever), but how they choose to regard it and what they choose to do with it which makes the difference to their happiness or otherwise. It is important to have your own centre (or find it anyway). The examples in your stories, Ewanecka, also have this theme - it does not matter what life throws at you, but how you choose to respond.

It is our responses that are the important thing and are within our control. As far as I'm concerned, other people can do exactly as they please and it does not bother me in the least. They can be negative, gloomy, aggressive, critical, sarcastic and pessimistic. Hey, it's their life. I don't care (in the nicest possible way) how they spend it.

I choose not to be that way and spend as little time with such people as I can manage. I am happy to try to assist someone who is sad and wants to be cheered up, who is pessimistic and listens to words of hope, who is a little bit aggressive because they are afraid and need comfort and reassurance. You can catch a lot more flies with honey than with vinegar after all. This is simply behaving well, compassionately and with love and is my duty as a human being and my pleasure as a good friend. Behaving this way creates more joy in my life and the lives of others.

However, I avoid people who are willfully, deliberately, determinedly negative in their thoughts, words and deeds. I find it dreary and unproductive to engage with them. I don't waste my valuable time and energy on flattering the egos of the greedy, listening to the thoughts of the spiteful or agreeing with the selfish that they need 'more' of whatever it is they think they lack in their lives.

Time, karma, the universe and life in general will eventually teach them the power of love, joy, hope and compassion.

I have better things to do, personally. But, hey that's just me. People can do whatever they want. We have free will.

Hi Ewanecka,

I can´t probably explain it good enough, that´s just how I feel it. Just if we would be somewhere there "one" and we would come back to the "one", it woudn´t matter who we have been. It wouldn´t matter that we even ever existed.
Personally I believe we are all interconnected, but that we never lose our individual consciousness, so what we do reflects upon ourselves all the time and WE are responsible for our own process, therefore there is an ENORMOUS significance to our existence and to what we do and how we conduct ourselves, not only in relation to us but upon others as well. I have no doubt that there is an immensely sublime reason for our existence and for our being here.

As we are ALL interconnected, it is also our responsibility to aid and assist others in their progress. This is a responsibility we must ALL undertake.

Regarding your original question, my view is that "good" and "bad" are imprinted in every human soul. We all carry this duality. But we also ALL instinctively know that which is "correct" from that which is "incorrect". To me, "bad" is any harm or pain we might bring upon ourselves or upon others. Certainly certain "evils" are in a person's destiny or "karma", but it is not within our own hands to determine such "karma" upon others. Once we understand that compassion, charity and love are fundamental not only to others but also to ourselves, then indeed we are growing spiritually, for this understanding is FUNDAMENTAL and at the root of all spiritual and esotherical teachings. It is by understanding this that we become ready to climb to higher realms of knowledge and understanding of who we truly are... :)

Thanks for your comment Charles Stuart, although it would be easier to just write "I mean the same as the rest"...

It´s all the same.

At least I don´t carry the duality. I percieve everything as relative.

But we also ALL instinctively know that which is "correct" from that which is "incorrect".
It´s certainly depends on the environment.

I have no energy to react anymore.

Hi Ewanecka,

Well, many of us here have been debating certain issues for quite a while now, which may have brought us similar views. The knowledge of reincarnation is a powerful tool to get people thinking and contemplating over "who we are and why we are here". Perhaps hence the "similarities" (not the "same").

I personally believe that faith is far more powerful and beneficial than nihilism, and that people who do have faith and are understanding of the meaning of "loving thy neighbor as thyself" are much happier and bring far greater benefits to others and humanity as a whole. That's all...

Tanguerra – a lovely post, as always.

I couldn’t agree more. I would do anything for a friend who sincerely needed help – but there is definitely a vast difference between someone who is always negative and gloomy -- versus a friend who just needs some love, attention and understanding. With friends – it is a reciprocal and balanced relationship, a give and take thing. We all have difficult times – and every one of us needs someone in our lives to love and encourage us. It’s also important to be that special someone – for people you love and appreciate.
