Help identifying city/country WWII

Some years ago I had a past life dream. I am not sure, but the dream had a World War II feel to it. The dream is just one short period of time in which I am walking in an abandoned village/city. There is no one around. I have been left purposely by my parents, who were taken away (along with our neighbours). The dream is so vivid. I am quite young, I would say between 4 and 8 maximum. I leave my house or hiding place and go to a neighbour's empty house. The houses are two story detached homes, close to one another with backyards. It seems upper middle class. Residents' abandoned laundry still hangs on lines in their backyards. The door is open, I turn the knob and let myself in. A stairway leading upstairs is immediately on the right when you enter. A long hall ahead leads to the kitchen. When I open the door, a boy even younger than me is at the top of the stairs. I feel like I know him, though we don't talk. He stays upstairs and I am down in the kitchen, I eat etc. neither of us are crying or terribly overwhelmed. It's like we are too young to understand what is going on. Some time passes, and there is a knock on the door. Being young, I am not afraid and answer the door to three soldiers I barely see. I notice the young boy at the top of the stairs. And that's all. I know they shoot me and then move up the stairs to shoot him. The boy in the dream is my current husband, though he is now some months older than me. I can't figure out where I could have been. The house and land I saw in my dreams is very unlike the photos I have seen of European places associated with WWII. I feel a pull to find this place. Does anyone have advice. [European based homes, detached, solid, two story (no basements), backyard, 1s floor is basically kitchen, maybe a living area, stairs immediately on entering, indoor bathroom and bedrooms on second floor, houses spaced closely together, place where residents forcibly removed at a time where children killed could be killed on sight]. I feel like my parents were quite surprised by being taken away, that this issue had travelled to where we were, but we're worried enough to feel it was better to leave me than take me to a worse fate.

Thank you Owl, that's very interesting. Yes, I had thought of this- but I get the feeling we were living pretty freely and without too many restrictions before being taken. I know it's weird. But I feel like my parents didn't have a strong reason to believe that we would be persecuted (maybe not Jewish, but another community).

Still, I am going to look into the ghettos as a possibility.

There was a lot of misinformation back in the day, even among the Jews. I remember reading this story in a magazine about this Polish-Jewish woman and her argentine born daughter. They were living in Buenos Aires during the war but she decided to go back to Poland with her daughter because she wanted to "work in the camps" (she thought she would be doing farm work). They got sent to Auschwitz and both got killed. So I guess that even if your parents were Jewish there could be reasons why they would have believed they would not be persecuted.

But who knows, maybe you were not Jewish. How do you feel about Judaism?

So interesting. I did try some internet research when I initially had the dream. I stumbled onto this site earlier today. The reason I am so fixated with the location is that the houses were quite different from the ones I see featuring ghettos etc. I haven't come across much that matches the building in my dream. I also thought it strange that my parents would leave me. Not sure why I chose that house to go into. The soldiers were wearing a typical greenish uniform, but I barely got a chance to see them as I was immediately shot. I don't get the feeling that we wereterribly impoverished. Families were still residing in their own houses, my clothing was not worn, food was in the kitchen.

I wasn't raised strongly in any religion and have many people of variant religions in our current family. I am not particularly attracted to Judaism. Do have a cross pendent within a Star of David that I bought in Israel when I travelled there a few years ago. I was very attracted to that when I bought it :)

The uniforms were greenish? Could they have been Red Army, US, or possibly not soldiers but police?

It would help if you know what the houses looked like in terms of construction material--stone, brick, wood, logs.

Also think if you might have seen plants, trees, or vegetable gardens. That might give a clue about the climate and local diet.

I don't think we should automatically jump to the conclusion that she was in a ghetto, the war was awful and many, many people were displaced from their homes, not just Jews.

But it is important to focus on how you feel about different cultures, including Judaism. If you feel strongly drawn to it, then that is a good indicator.

Remember there were many areas where people were driven out and borders changed. There was the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia which was an ancestral German area that the Germans reoccupied (and then later all of Czechoslovakia). The reoccupation was spurred on by the ethnic cleansing of Germans in the Sudetenland. The President at the time was Edvard Beneš who absolutely hated the Germans. He imposed harsh laws that affected the Germans living in Czechslovakia called the Benes Decrees or Benes Laws. This included forced expulsion and murder of many Germans in the Sudetenland. This can all be found on the internet along with old videos of Germans being murdered by the pro-Benes Czechs.

There was also the Danzig corridor of Poland which was former East Prussia. This was an area that was occupied by the Polish after the Treaty of Versailles. The Polish Army actually drove out and killed many Germans in East Prussia so that Polish people could occupy the land. This is one of the reasons for Hitler invading Poland which can be seen from his speeches right before the invasion in which he directly confronts the Germans being slaughtered in East Prussia and how he says he cannot sit back while it happens.

At the end of WWII, all territories occupied by Russia expelled Germans from lands that they had been on for generations. There was a forced march west to Allied occupied Germany in which 1.5-2 million Germans died or were killed.

Many, many people all over Europe were driven out of their homes and killed by invading or occupying forces. I'm only speaking of the events I know well but there are many more of people from all nationalities. This was something that was not unique to Jewish people and unfortunately your scenario could be any number of things. I would say to do a past life regression to get more information on who you could have been nationality-wise. Small details will help, like the uniforms that the soldiers wore would be indicative. Good luck with your research and let us know if you need any help.

What is your source for that?

What you are saying is an exact wording of the Nazi propaganda intended to stir up anger amongst Germans to justify the war. They even dressed up POWs as Polish soldiers who allegedly did terrorist acts against a German radio station near the border, and then claiming Polish people did it, which was the official "justification" to start the war. But this was not done from Polish side. And a lot of the alleged "killings" was propaganda only.

After the war, on the other hand, when Polish and Russian people had experienced a lot of atrocities from the Germans, the re settlements on the western territories did include various rough treatment of the fleeing German families as retaliation.

Just because something was used as propaganda doesn't mean it is untrue. I'm not debating that this was used as propaganda and I'm also not talking about the radio station incident.

I'm specifically talking about what is known as the Bromberg Massacre and the Danzig Massacres. Hitler specifically talks about this in his speech leading up to the war:

I could seriously ask you for a source for this too, but you're probably just going to throw up a Wikipedia reference.

We've derailed this thread enough, unless you have a suggestion to Aspara about what her memory could be of?

Hi Apsara

Welcome to the forum.

It's going to be very difficult to pinpoint this with just this information. It's really not enough information to go on, other than to say it's probably 'somewhere in Europe'. People can make guesses, but I don't think that's going to really be very reliable.

The person who knows best about all this is you. Have you tried doing some meditation on this to perhaps get a bit more information?

Thank you all for the replies and the welcome. Yes - i know it will be hard. I wish the dream provided me with more. I have never really had a past life dream...I more recall the feelings and emotion. The immediate recognition of my husband in the small boy. I do have some regression CD's i may try. I am just afraid I'll mix-up previous knowledge with making out the location. With the history, time and space...it will be difficult to pinpoint any other way. Thought I'd give it a try :) I appreciate all the advice and all of your time in helping me

These sources are considered propaganda, such as Adolf Hitler, and a biased site with a few undocumented stories . To keep things straight (and also to not mislead the owner of this thread) the wikipedia article on the topic is the version mostly agreed upon by academic historians. We are talking about local historians from both Poland and Germany (read the references list).

Bear in mind what happened in Bromberg was three days after Germany invaded Poland killing thousands of natives. Also pay attention to what Germans did later on as retaliation for what appeared to be a mistake. It is specifically telling that this was exaggerated and used as Nazi propaganda. In history research one must take all facts and circumstances objectively into account, not just the convenient for someone's world view. That is why when a source is making things too simple or one sided, or using just some facts for its own agenda, it's usually bogus.

It's funny you would say as it is straight from the Wikipedia article. I guess you missed the citation needed part:

"According to the most widely accepted version,[by whom?][citation needed]"

I'm going to reply to the rest of this by PM so at to keep from sidetracking the OP's thread.

It's probably worth giving it a try. I doubt you'll 'mix it up'. I wouldn't be afraid of that. Try out the CDs anyway, just for the practice and to get used to it. You may find you bounce off into some other life - that's OK.

Once you've done it a few times, you may find that you can do it yourself and you may be able to focus in on this WWII life and get the answers you are looking for about it all and what happened. You may find out all sorts of other interesting things about your past and about the history of you and your husband together.

There's not really a 'down side' to doing this. The worst thing that can happen is that nothing will happen. Sure, in the short term, sometimes people uncover scary or upsetting things. But usually in the long term it's good to understand what happened in previous lives that have helped to construct your personality, lessons learned and so on.

As I said, the references list shows.

To not divert this thread further, I suggest to make one for historical discussion.

Hi Apsara,

When I read this it appears that your parents and the other villagers were taken away, maybe they were Jewish in WW2. Bear in mind that the Nazis did this in many occupied countries, and if you do not know which country it is from, then it might not match the pics you have seen. My advice is to keep searching... it is also possible this is a scene from another time period.

Could you describe your friend? I'm not sure, if that was ghetto. You were able to come there on your own, as a little child.

Details

I agree. You should try to remember some more Details to find out the exact Region.

The roof of youre house, a detailled Image of the dishes, the helmets or the hats of the soldiers.

Maybe you could even remember a church close to your house?

Would need more detail to pin this down. Let's not forget that the Jews were not the only people to be sent to the death camps.

Among the groups the Nazi regime and its Axis partners singled out for persecution on so-called racial grounds were the Roma (Gypsies). They, too, were judged to be "racially inferior" and the fate of Roma, in some ways, paralleled that of the Jews.

Sorry for derailing your thread earlier Aspara. Another persecuted group during WWII was definitely the Polish. They had it rough from both the Soviets and the Germans. I have some interesting stories from my Polish Grandmother about what happened to the rest of her family in Poland during WWII. After the war the family here in America was not able to get in touch with any Polish relatives and have not since (save for a priest they found recently) and all were assumed to have been killed. My Grandmother tells a story about soldiers coming to her Grandfather's door (he was 90 years old) on his farm and killing him because he refused to give up the house to them.
