Owning a genuine SS uniform might indicate they had a previous life attached to the uniform maybe even without knowing
Genuine SS uniforms can cost you the price of a small mortgage. But too not only for the past life aspect also the fact that you can say “I own so and so’s original SS uniform....” I know people who have some original stuff and I think. “Why?”
For me personally, I’ve already lived in that era and both parts of my soul have worn SS uniform (SS proper and SS Helferin) so it’s not something I want back. Maybe if I went to a big military repro meet like Military Odyssey in the UK, might I seriously consider obtaining a repro, but the fact that I know some of my old stuff is in someone’s collection does make me feel happy. To know that it’s not rotting away somewhere and people respect it as a historical Militaria piece.
One thing I would be curious to see in real life, though, is a uniform that belonged to Eugen and is still in someone's private collection. I often wonder what would drive someone to own genuine SS uniforms, but I am no one to judge. One thing I know is that I will never try it on.
You raise a valid point Ben. But too, ego drives people to own genuine original SS items. To them sometimes, it is a status symbol of how much they know about said person OR the fact they can gloat over they have something from someone famous.
When the Russians were approaching Prague, Lina Heydrich fled the Lower Castle at Jungfern Breshan only taking with her to remind her of her late husband Reinhard, the same very SS tunic he was wearing that fateful day of the assassination attempt. Now that was still covered with blood too. Perhaps if she were thinking clearly and not under fear that the Russians would capture her, she may have taken another different tunic of his. So there was a few tunics and stuff from the home office left there. Most of it is in private collections sitting in someone’s attic.
I think at the end of the day it doesn’t matter WHO owned what, to the soul it’s nothing. It has no significance and the need is less. As my guide told me one day: “Why would you come back and long for that period of history again? Why would you long to wear something that is dead and buried in history?”
They’re right.. Why would you? To please the ego? Or to subconsciously heal without being aware of it?

Pa. Before I forget, I have a replica ceramic bust of my Queen (Nefertiti). It was given as a unexpected gift, but I don’t own anything original, not even from my WWII lifetime.
