How frequent are gender changes among reincarnation cases?

That's a good question! Personally, I believe that it's a common thing to experience both male and female lives, although I do believe some souls have a preference and feel more comfortable as one specific gender. All of the lives I remember are female - I am perfectly happy with that (real girlie girl here)!
Most of my friends who remember pl's have at least one recollection of being the opposite gender. During a meditation, my mom once saw us together as two young boys - brothers. Although I have no recollection of it, I don't doubt I've had at least one flip of the coin.

I think past life memories of being the opposite sex probably stand out more because you're experiencing something outside the circle of everything you've experienced in your present life. For example, I remember several female lives (about 5 or 6) and only one or two male lives. I wonder if this is because memories of my male past lives 'blend in' more easily with present life memories (being a male in this life) making them more difficult to access? I don't know. Having said that, I feel like a very 'unexperienced' male in my present life, like I don't belong here if that makes sense? A lot of my male traits feel very 'alien' to me 
When I remember a past life, I'm right there, back in that time, reliving the memories in the body of that person .... I am that person for the duration of the dream, or the regression, or whatever other method i'm using to remember. To suddenly find yourself in the body of a member of the opposite sex is an 'interesting' experience, and sometimes I'll remember being a female for no reason other than the fact that I was a female, so that would suggest to me that opposite gender memories tend to stand out more, I'd be interested to read the thoughts of anyone who knows what I mean by that comment

Although the line between male and female has blurred a bit in the last 20-30 years regarding equality and the roles that we play (and quite rightly so I may add), I still think that being one gender or the other gives us a very different perspective on life, and so we make our choice based on which gender suits our purpose for the next life's lessons, at least I hope we make the choice and that it's not made for us ..... I'm counting on it : angel

I think gender is something that will keep coming up because it is a big deal in our society. Before a baby's even born, people are already asking the mother if she's knows if it's a boy or girl. It's the first characteristic we notice about someone when we see them. The gender we are plays a role in everything we experience in life.
In my personal opinion, I don't think past lives as the other gender are remembered more than that of the same gender. I think it really is that common. If life is an experience, and we keep coming back to experience new things, would it make sense to only incarnate as one gender? If you only experience life from one side you are missing out on 50% of the human experience.
As far as the frequency, I think I've mentioned this before, but I remember reading in one of Michael Newton's books that in his work he has found that souls do tend to develop a preference for one or the other, and will incarnate as that gender, on average, about 75% of the time. Most of the lives I remember are as a female. It is interesting remembering being the opposite sex. However, like Chris, I feel like I'm still trying to "figure out" how to be a man.

Whether I reincarnate as a male or female in the next life, as long as I don't recall this life I'll be happy! Switching genders is an idea I first encountered when I saw the movie "Dead Again". At the time, I was a little disturbed by the possibility of switching genders. Now, I'm comfortable with it, and even find myself hoping that I reincarnate as a female.

I'm of the opinion that people are more likely to remember past lives if they just switched over from a long run of their "preferred gender," if only because it might make their transition easier to accept. At least I think that was the case with me ... I don't think it was a coincidence that I started to remember a bunch of male past lives around puberty, when I might have started having serious issues about the whole thing. I know my belief in previous lives has helped me get through the awkward feelings I have about being female. I know I chose this body for a reason, and I'm very grateful for my experiences of being a mother. But it's nice to have some explanation as to why I don't like wearing dresses or high-heels, etc.
At any rate, I think I'll post a new thread with a poll on it asking whether or not one has switched genders since their most recent past life. I've read somewhere the figure is about 10%.

Now all of this talk on gender with regards to reincarnation, brings to mind what I once heard some years
ago for whatever it is worth. It was that there was a former Korean Philosophy Perspective, if I heard right,
in regards to Reincarnation that one would switch gender on about every time a soul would reincarnate. For
instance it would go ..... male > female > male >female > male > female, etc. I thought it was interesting
but maybe quite tooo rigid. Do think changing gender from one lifetime to the next on a general basis
might be lots more common then some might think and it would help explain so many things that happen
in our society among individuals. For whatever it might be worth.

Changing genders is very common. Personally mine are about 60/40 male/female. There does not seem to be a pattern in particular of going from male to female and back again. It may just have something to do with the body which is available at the time, or life lessons people want to learn, or...?
I think people tend to remember the more dramatic or remarkable or more recent lives better. Whether this has to do with switching genders, I would not really want to speculate. I think it is an individual thing.
