I have spent the past few days searching the internet for information about night terrors because my 7 year old has them occasionally. This week during an episode, although his eyes were open, I new he was not "awake". He was terrified and talking about what I can only describe as a battle around him. With spears and such. There were many people dying and he was terrified. It was so strange. I looked at my husband and said that I honestly believed that these experiences are some form of past life memory. He thinks I'm nuts. And in my search this week I have come to see that I am not alone in this thought. Many people feel this about night terrors. I did not expect that at all. I was shocked to find others with this same notion. It makes me feel better.
My belief in reincarnation was cemented 4 years ago by my other son. He was 4 at the time and completely obsessed with talking about death. Not in a fearful way. Just sheer curiosity. Asked so many questions and just wanted to discuss every aspect of it. If for some reason we hadn't talked about it that day, he would go to bed and say "Oh mommy, we forgot to talk about death today". He wasn't at all afraid of it. Not the thought of dying or being put in the ground or anything else. Just really wanted to know what happens after death. And then one night just after I had put him to bed he came to me and said: "Mommy, it's ok about dying. Because when you've had enough of dying, you just tell God and he turns you back into a baby. But you won't be born to the same mommy, it's a different mommy. But I'm going to try really hard to remember you." And I couldn't breathe. Here he was clearly describing reinacarnation, a notion he could not have heard about. He's said other things like that. He's such a pensive, serious child. The other thing is I've always secretly wondered if he could be the reincarnation of my grandmother. She had these unmistakeable eyes. So dark brown they were black. You couldn't distinguish the pupils from the rest of the eye. My son has those exact eyes. Black marbles. I think of her everytime I look at him, so I've always wondered because of the eyes. And I hate to say it but I was without a doubt the favorite grandchild of my grandmother. We had a very, very special bond. I always knew I was her darling and that she loved me most. I spent a lot of time with her as a child.
Well, just wanted to share. It feels good to know that others also share some of these ideas. I never talk to anyone about this stuff for fear of seeming like a nut.
