"I didn't want to be born"

This is a secondhand story, but I thought I'd go ahead and add it anyways.

My boyfriend's mom does not believe in reincarnation, but she told my BF and myself this story one day about when BF was a child:

One time when they were in the car driving somewhere, and BF was young enough to be in a car seat, he said out of the blue "I didn't want to be born." His mom was taken completely off guard, but asked him why he didn't want to be born. He answered "It was warm and comfy there."

She was amazed at this because it was true--he was two weeks late, and had to be born by c-section when induced labor didn't work out! The odd thing was that he hadn't ever heard about his birth at that point.

Another time, still very young, he told her out of the blue a story about when he lived before as a roofer. He told her about his death (falling off a roof), and tons of details that he never would have been able to know at his age. Unfortunately, she didn't write any of this down, and has forgotten the details by now. She still is confused by both of these events and doesn't believe in reincarnation.

Welcome to the forum, Lady of Shalott, and thanks for sharing these stories of your boyfriend's childhood. :)

It's great his mother could still remember and wanted to tell you them, even if she doesn't believe in reincarnation herself. I wonder how many accounts go totally unnoticed and be forgotten after a little while, so that people never find out what they have said as little children.

What does your boyfriend think about it?

Thanks for the welcome! :)

The boyfriend thinks the stories are really interesting, although he wishes we knew what he said in more detail. He is the only person I am able to discuss my thoughts with freely about reincarnation who wouldn't think I'm crazy! He doesn't fully believe in it, being a very scientific, logical person, but he agrees that its a very interesting concept, and that there's more evidence for it than any other theories about after death.

I'm sure there are lots of children's stories that get forgotten. I will never know if I told any such stories--its not exactly something I could ask my parents. Its sad that it must be the case with a lot of people.

Hi Lady of Shalott,

How interesting that your BF shared some past life/in between life information to his mother when young and it's great that his mum remembered him saying it. Do you know whether or not your BF was a difficult baby ie crying a lot, grumpy etc?

The reason I ask is that I didn't want to be born either but not because I was warm and comfortable as your BF said. Apparently, I just didn't want to be human again and although my birth was ridiculously quick, I was a very serious, grumpy baby who cried constantly and scowled angrily in between times! I just wondered if your BF was similar although I'm thinking he was probably fine when he finally did enter the world and didn't hold a bit of a grudge like I did!

Interesting also that your BF's mum doesn't believe in reincarnation yet she remembers this story and tells it with the clear sub-text that it IS a past life-related. My mother-in-law does the exact same thing and it's almost like she's reaching out waiting for me to say "It's OK to accept it....I believe it too".

You're right, it is very strange that she remembers this story so well and tells it freely and yet doesn't believe! I think she is afraid to accept it because of her belief system. She even had a regression once and didn't know what she was getting into beforehand... (Her pain therapist said he wanted to try "something different") But despite these experiences, she refuses to accept it.

And actually he was a very difficult baby. He cried if he was ever away from his mom. No one else could hold him for long, and she couldn't leave him to play by himself. The only time he was good was when he was asleep. And not long after he grew out of that, he had night terrors! He had the night terrors until he was pretty old... 8 to 10-ish. The only things that would wake him up were his Guinea pig or being thrown in the shower with clothes on.
