Interesting Experience

After reading Carol talking about her son's fear of loud noises, I thought I should share a similar experience I had recently. Last year, we had a strong thunderstorm that struck in the middle of the night. Suddenly, there was a loud band that shook the house. I immediately had an overwhelming feeling of terror and thought "Oh no, it's all over and I'm not ready to die yet!". I never thought much of it until a few weeks ago.

Even though there is a long history of military service in my family tree and I've been the victim of some nasty attacks growing up, I'm still very much opposed to violence and will never own a weapon. So, I was way out of my element at a recent trip to a gun range. I thought it would be fun to try something new, as I had never seen a gun up close before. I decided to try a 9MM Pistol (like Police carry) and a much more powerful .44 Magnum.

While the 9MM was uneventful (except that I'm a terrible shot!) when I tried the .44 and that loud bang went off I was terrified out of my mind. It was so bad I had to close my eyes and turn my head and I had a terrible feeling like my life is about to end. Even though I'm a big and strong person I was almost in tears I was so afraid to fire the .44 bullets. I managed to fire off all the rounds I bought but I had to force myself to do it. I was feeling thankful to be alive after I left the range and I was practically shaking for the rest of the afternoon.

I wonder if these recent feelings (and my irrational fear of authority figures like Police or Soldiers) aren't related to a past life experience? It would certainly explain the intense nightmares I had as a small child.

Hi Mr. Mike,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts - it's quite possible that your fears do stem from a past life. I know in my own experience sounds have acted like a trigger - and sometimes it's fairly intense. The fact that the fear and emotion was something that stayed with you all day - is pretty indicative that it's a good place to start looking.

Do you have any other fears surrounding guns? Are you ever disturbed watching a shooting on a television show - or hearing about it on the news?

Is there anything else, aside from your fear of authority figures, that you feel could be related to your fear of guns (specifically the .44 Magnum)?

My hat's off to you for trying something new like shooting, and for sticking it out until your ammunition was used up. I would say that it seems quite likely that there is something explosive in your past life history, which would cause you anxiety. You should know that your reaction to noise is quite common, but unpredictable. I've observed little children react strongly to loud abrupt noises, while others calmly slept through them. There must be a good reason for this difference, and you would probably agree that each child certainly carries with them the subconscious memories of a past life.

Your reaction to Police and Soldiers is more of a unique condition, which must also derive from past life experience. Can you describe any of the nightmares you've experienced as a small child?

Thank you for your responses. To answer your questions....

I used to watch a lot of extremely violent movies when I was little but they never bothered me because I knew it was just an act. However, after viewing (on the internet) a real life shooting, I was nearly hysterical. I'm still bothered my what I watched to this day.

I can't think of anything. I've always had a little fright when I try something new, but it's usually before I try the activity. I was just fine until that loud bang went off. As well, even though I've been subject to numerous unprovoked attacks growing up, they never involved weapons of any kind.

I don't have a clear memory of my nightmares as a child, but many involved being killed. The most common one would be to fall, see stars for about 2 seconds and then fade to black before waking up. I've also had memories of being chased (and being intensely afraid) and then once I was caught I woke up. I'm not aware of any dreams involving being shot nor being chased by police.

Furthermore, nothing from this life would add to that feeling. Believe it or not, even though I live in a city the first time I personally spoke to a police officer was when I was 25!
