.. that the only memories you have of a past life are happy or mundane? Is this unusual?
My memories of my past life are happy and seem to be peaceful. I have memories of a snowball fight with a boy, attending a Canadiens hockey game and family.

It could just mean that your guides feel you are not ready to see the more sad/traumatic memories yet.

Or it could mean that you have healed that lifetime and still have ‘access’ to those memories, OR you are being shown this lifetime for a reason.

I don't see why not. Still, one factor which seems to trigger past-life recall is when a life is cut short for any reason, whether natural causes or something else. The life prior to that point may indeed have been as you put it, happy or mundane.

of course that's absolutely possible. Why not? I think it's pretty common that people remember "normal" lives, you just don't hear of it often.

My own first memories were pleasant, too. Even later I had a self-regression where I only got shown beautiful things (which left a deep yearning).
