Life between Lives

I see. Thanks, Green. Yes, it would be interesting to find out if anyone has any more info about it.

I'm leaning toward the bicycle myself.

In almost every account of NDEs I have read the people in question are offered a choice to come back or not. Some initially don't want to, because they feel so wonderful, but often they are reminded of something they have to do, or else someone who still needs them such as a child, so, obviously they choose to return. We don't hear much about those who choose to stay. :)

Personally I don't remember being offered such a choice, just going into the light with great relief after a very unpleasant death.

Topper, I am so sorry for all you are going through..sorry, you know when you really want to reach out and say the right thing because your heart just aches for that person, you can't imagine how they are to get through it, just wish you all the love and strength in the world. Your son wanted to help people, I am convinced he is helping you now, sending you love and strength until you meet again. All my life, I had dreaded the thought of losing my mother, we were very very close and I always thought I would 'fall apart' when she died. Of course I was grief struck when she finally did 'pass' in 2001 at 76 years, from terminal empphazema (I held her hand as she breathed her last, told her to say hi to my grandparents). But every time I thought I was about to 'slip' (and I do have clinical depression) it wouldn't really happen, it was as if she was holding me up, from up there, you know? I have the feeling now though that she has moved on, as I wanted her to , into a boisterous, healthy baby boy, as she was always pretty frail and sickly-but sharp!- in this life. Tanguerra has great advice about sharing the burdens. As I don't know your friend, I'm not sure how things affect her, but as for me, despite my depression, I am always ready to hear/help with people's problems, and makes me feel good when I can actually help:thumbsup: Blessings to your family.

Well that makes me feel batter Tanguerra. I'd like to have that choice but of course if I find I can see my son again by coming back, I'll probably do the dumb thing and come.:)

Thanks, missuJoe, for your comforting words. You just reminded me that I do feel my son is helping us get through this. And we call on him for help and he gives it, even in fixing dead laptops. He helps in so many ways, especially in the adc's. I have to be grateful for that.

I'm sorry about your mother. That's the hardest part of life, losing the ones you love so much. And why don't the horrible ones ever seem to die? They seem to live forever.

Jackh said something in a post about the harder this life, the greater the rewards. I hope he's right.

I just realized Tanguerra, you're talking about NDE's, near death experience. I was talking about after you already died, then later on, after a nice little R&R, you are given a choice as to whether to stay on where you are or be reincarnated again.

Green26 read it in Newton and I think now that's where I read it because I read one his books months ago. That must have been it. I was wondering if anyone who recalls life-between-lives remembers that choice.

I notice there are a few topics in this thread, and two of them are things that I wanted to address, but didn't want to start a new thread about them, so I hope it is ok to just throw them in here: angel
I didn't really ask friends or family about this when it was occurring; they were (especially family) amazingly cold and unresponsive about the whole thing (my boyfriend's passing). No one dropped by afterwards, or ever, or wanted to hear about it, much less help me deal with questions. I was having trouble coping and remember thinking that my 17 month old daughter was my 'anchor to the world', as I seriously considered suicide to join him..but for her. I wondered if the vivid, nightly dreams about him were just wishful thinking, or in fact a visitation from him. They always started the same: I'm just at home, doing something (cleaning my bedroom etc.) I turn and there he is, all 6 ft 4 of him, and grinning his big wicked (sort of ) grin. It is like a breath of fresh air but I'm aware, in the dream that he has passed and so can't be here. When I try to explain this to him he seems a little hurt and argues with me that he really is and that I need him there. In one dream he is joking around that he will beat someone up for me, ha ha. He wants me to give him a big hug-I want to soooo bad but don't want to be disappointed. 'Suit yerself' he says, and sort of pouts, something so typical when 'losing' an argument (the exchanges were so full of all his typical mannerisms, in speech and body). Finally he convinces me, overjoyed I reach out for him..and he is gone!

I had this dream about ten times, almost nightly and thought I would go out of my mind. Finally one night I said 'Joey, although I am so happy to see you again, because I miss you terribly, it is agony, but if I have to lose you one more time in a dream I will not be able to go on..I mean I wil just lose it you know? so please I can't do this anymore. I want you to find peace, I wil be ok love" And I never saw him again that way, not one glimpse! Also: My bed then, was just a four inch thick foam topper on the floor. It was quite stable though, and never 'moved around' or settled. One night, before a dream like that, I just lay there very very still on one one side of the bed, but thinking about him intensely. Suddenly I felt the other side slowy but firmly go 'down' to the ground, exactly like someone had 'pulled up a seat beside me. All the hair on me stood up and I tingled all over. It was the weirdest thing I ever experienced but I KNEW it was him! I just wonder what anyone else thinks about this, was this an 'ADE'?

This is a tough one, missuJoe. I need to ask you, during those dreams, did you feel an overwhelming sense of love like nothing you have felt in this life, even for your boyfriend?

I think the experience is called an adc - after life commincation - but there may be other names. In the adc dreams that my husband and I have experienced, that's what we noticed set them apart from the usual dream, that sense of intense love. But one thing that also gets me about your dreams is that the conversation is logical and we also noticed that about our adc's. My other dreams about my son are the usual willy-nilly dreams.

When I see my son in this adc-type dream, I instantly go to him and kiss him and tell him I love him and we hold hands etc. My husband in an adc dream talked more with Patrick and he said, "Oh Patrick, you're back." Pat said, "No, I'm not back, but I'm here, and I know I don't have much time."

The time factor could be why your boyfriend disappears. On the other hand it could just be a dream, especially if you don't have that amazing love sensation. Then it may just be your subconscious, trying to come to terms with the fact that he's no longer in this life.

As I said, it's hard to call, but think about the overwhelming love, it's a real clue.

And good luck. I'm sorry for your tragic loss. I'm sorry about your family's behavior too. I hope you have some friends you can count on. And as you said, you have your baby and that, believe me, is the best thing. She'll be your biggest comfort.

Yes Topper, it has been 12 years since his death, and the dreams started almost immediately after, but I still remember that intense feeling of warmth, of love in the dreams. I did not explain it too well, it sounds a little like I am mad at him, but the opposite where I loved him so much I could not let my self be fooled. And I forgot, there was actually someone I'd been friends with for a few years prior, who moved down the road to where I lived two years before (having just moved in myself there a week before the accident). We had never really talked like that before, but I knew that he was a very deep, caring person who was well read on karma, reincarnation, budha, things like that. So I invited my 'neighbour' over. He mentioned something about the 'levels' of ascention after you die or something, and then said that I was holding Joe back, that he couldn't go on to where he should be because of my intense grief, I needed to let him golIt made me feel a bit guilty! Today, I am where I thought I could never get to back then; I have fond memories and feel blessed to have even known him at all. I sometimes want to share this with whose who've just suffered a loss- that it will get better, that you can get through it, but I know it would just sound like minimizing, and maybe insensitaive to the grief, and that's how I would have felt back then too.

Hi missuJoe, If you had that intense other-worldy feeling of love, then it was probably an adc.

From what I've read, people no longer think you can hold people back with your grief but who knows. It might just be a different theory. I get the feeling my son communicates with us because he wants to.

You're right, you can tell people it will get better and maybe it will and maybe it won't. Some people get through their loss, others don't. Some people get through one horrible loss and then don't get through the next one. We all have our limits and we find out in time. How many times have you heard, she or he "died of a broken heart"? I've seen it happen myself. Is it Joe, by the way, who was your boyfriend you're talking about?

I would not be too quick to categorise things and say "This is 'just' a dream" and "That is a 'genuine' communication from the other side". The mind is an amazing instrument and the spirit communicates with it in a number of ways, often differently for different individuals. We don't even really know what dreams are for starters, although there is no shortage of opinions on this topic. Some people have dreams, some people see visions, feel presences and hear voices or have a 'funny feeling'. It is all part of the same spectrum of experience. Sometimes the encounters are lighthearted, as missyoujoe describes her fairly playful encounters with Joe, sometimes they are overwhelmingly emotional. I think it partly depends on the personalities involved, rather than the 'category' of experience being felt.

I believe if you feel a bond with someone who has died, and they feel a bond with you, they will stay in touch as long as you need them. I would not feel 'guilty' about holding someone back with your grief. I would just be kind to myself and take whatever comfort I could from visitations of any kind. You cannot do someone in the spirit world any harm and time as we understand it has no meaning, so you are not keeping them from anything more important than giving you comfort.

Over many lives it is often our relationship bonds with others that bring us back again and again - whether for 'love' or 'hate' or otherwise. Sometimes we are with them for a short time, sometimes for a long time. This is life. It is sometimes quite painful.

An excellent and profound thought Tanguerra, and one I wholeheartedly agree with. There are several cherished souls who visit me when I need a boost. Sincere love transcends time, and those still in our hearts came to us again and again because they have and still do care.

John

That's a good point on categorizing dreams, Tanguerra. From what I've read about adc dreams, people say they "just know" the difference. For my husband and me it's the overwhelming love thing, but that may not be the case for everyone. It may just come down to gut feelings and I'd trust those over anything.

I also think you can't hold someone's spirit back by grieving for them any more than you can keep a person from dying by loving them.

Lovely inspirational thought, Tiltjlp: "Sincere love transcends time, and those still in our hearts come to us again and again because they have and still do care." I'm holding that thought. Very nice. Beautiful cat, btw.

In my experience some dreams are just about mundane stuff - worries about one's hairstyle or one's work or whatever - others are what I think of as 'strong' dreams. Some just stand out as more vivid and important than others.

Yes, if there is anything which is eternal, it is love. I believe it is the underlying, unifying, force beneath everything. I think people sometimes get a taste of it in their love relationships, whether romantic, family or friendships. Love is what most people are longing for.

Fear is the great divider. Once we learn to accept that, at one level, all this 'life' business is an illusion and there is no such thing as death in any permanent sense, it can be a great antidote to fear. I know this can seem like cold comfort sometimes though.

I think Tanguerra is quite right in what she said about it being a mistake to categorize dreams. Dreams have layers and sometimes have a nice juicy chewy center. It's important to examine dreams from as many angles as possible to discover what messages are being shared. Dreams are outside of time and space and mundane rules. Water runs up hill. Pigs fly. Spirits of loved ones meet us in the 'between' area and let us know they're alright and sometimes to comfort us in our grief. Both the Universe and Soul speak well through dreams because they're able to communicate in a multi-layered language that crosses all boundaries and breaks all the rules of normal reality and awareness.

When we dream of another life, we're generally aware of whether or not it is figuratively speaking or a literal life. We know from the 'feel' of it that there's something more to this particular dream and that the message is not symbolic, wishful thinking, or metaphorical. Looking through the threads here on the forum there are many instances where dreams have revealed other lives to the dreamer; giving facts that could be researched and verified but what got the point across was most generally the feeling behind the dream, otherwise it would have drifted away or been forgotten as 'just a silly dream'.

My impression of both MissuJoe and Topper's dream experiences are that they're wonderful after life communications and experiences. (in the instance of Joe taking physical place next to MissuJoe on the bed.) There is no reason to believe that just because someone we love is no longer in body that they're incapable of communicating their presence to us. It is, after all, a very loving thing to do; not only to let us know they're alright, but that we WILL be alright too...that death is not the end but merely another beginning.

Wulfie

Hi topper:) Yes it was (Joe). I appreciate what you said about not holding people back, thanks! Reading these posts here, it occurred to me that I haven't had even one dream about
him after that, which is really weird, because I have the odd, nonsensical everday dream about friends etc. who are alive now. (But then he always was good about doing as I asked, the odd time I asked lol:laugh: ). No dreams BUT, I have always thought of him as my guardian angel, like in some ways he never really left and there is more than one time when I was sure he 'saved our lives', as there was no other explanation. Not the place for that here though, as this is more about dreams.

I have no doubt he is looking out for you missyoujoe if your bond was as strong as you describe. I am sure if you wanted him to visit you again you have only to ask as well.

The topic is 'Life between lives' so it is not entirely inappropriate to discuss contacts with the 'departed'. As Wulfie says, and I have no doubt, death is not 'the end', merely a change of state.

I'd be interested to hear some of your stories missuJoe. I've had other contacts with my son too, one rather dramatic one in awake time, but I'm still not always ready to write about things without too many tears.

I bet if you asked Joe to come to you in your dreams again he would, especially since he was so good about doing what you asked. I like that one.:) My son was quite good that way too, and like you, I didn't ask much but when I did, he was good about it.

How nice that he's become your guardian angel. That's surely a comfort.

To those who have shared their experiences of death of loved ones, the dreams, the feelings, the despair and the hope, I thank you. I could hardly bare to read the posts, but felt I needed to.
Something that I read recently, which I feel offers a certain comforting persepective is this "Only love is real, everything else is an illusion". I don't want to start a religious debate, and I promise that's not why I have quoted that, but it does fit with the quote from the bible "God is love". Again I promise I am not trying to, or going to, ram my believes down anyones throats, I just wanted to share something that makes sense to me and hopefuly brings comfort to others too.
Best wishes all,
Hammy.

I agree with you Hammy.

"God (however you conceive her) is love" would fit with my understanding. Both are eternal, stronger than death, and the force that binds the universe together.

Exactly. (I see God in a male way, I usualy call God 'him', but maybe that because I am male. When it comes down to it, God is just God I guess :) )
Other than that, minor detail lol I repeat, exactly!

Obviously God would not have a gender, not having a body as such? Eh?

I just like to make people to stop and think now and again about their assumptions and tease them a little bit in the process. :)

Not sure if anyone has noticed themselves doing this but since I was a child, I have always cried the words, "I want to go home." Or I want to come home when put in a highly emotional or breaking situation.

I've never been speaking of my own physical home. I just say it without a second thought as though my subcontious remembers it's beauty but my physical being does not.

interesting topic. I wish more would share their memories but like 1 of the posters said, "It's to personal." Thats understandable as well. :o

What an awesome topic!

I've had a few dreams before that could be me on The Other Side. The first one was seeing people of all ages at some creek. I understood that they had recently passed from debilitating diseases, and that the waters were healing them. They were all very chipper and in good spirits. Also, there was a Victorian house nearby. (Of course, I now think it's possible that they could have been people with diseases on earth right now, and that they were astral traveling to those waters to aid in their healing).

The other dream was me walking along the Grand Canal in Venice. It wasn't OUR Venice, but Venice on The Other Side. My grandmother was walking ahead of me as I was walking beside some man who wouldn't stop chatting away. :D The entire time I was only paying attention to my grandmother walking ahead of me. I remember thinking how beautiful her hair was, how she was so slender, and how much I LOVED her dress. I wanted a dress like hers so badly b/c it was so Victorian-ish. (Note: a few days later I saw the exact same dress in a store and bought it :D . Must have been a gift from her). In this dream I finally told the guy that was walking with me that I had to leave to get back "to work." The thing is I COULDN'T WAIT to go to work. I don't know what my work was there, but it made me very happy. I mean, I was elated to be there. In this dream, and the dream below, I definitely felt like I was "Home." I mean really, really Home. There are no words to describe that feeling.

My last dream was me and my father on The Other Side. My father was newly arrived and in total awe that he was there. He was almost 'out of it' because he was in such shock. I remember it being very sunny and showing him these thatched-roof cottages where he would be staying. It was a really cozy place. However, all this time all I could think about was leaving my father to go to where I wanted to be. :D I remember thinking that tending to Dad's arrival was my "duty" and that I could not wait to get back to somebody. (I don't know who I was so anxious to return to, but I now think it was Patrick). I also don't know if this dream was a memory or the future. I don't know if I was there before my father, or if we arrived together. All I know is it was very familiar territory to me and I was beyond elated to be back.

Oh! I also wanted to add that I sooo agree with what y'all are saying about dreams. I learned over the past year that dreams aren't always so black-and-white. That they fit inside these little cookie cutters called 'Mundane/Everyday dreams' or 'Visitations' or 'Past Life' or 'learning tools for fears in this life.' Sometimes they fit under more than one of the above categories. It's just up to us to put the puzzle pieces together.

Our existence between lives really intrigues me. I've read here that our souls take classes, and even have evaluation meetings with supervisor souls.

Omg, yes! My mother has had so many dreams where she's seen guides and angels as instructors to groups of people.

I also agree with Topper when they said - "I read somewhere that you could choose not to reincarnate and you would still reach "enlightenment" or "nirvana" but it would just take longer than if you came back." I've been told that 'you-know-who' is not at all keen on coming back. Lol! I also believe that he's learning and growing on The Other Side, just as I am here. (I think he's a bit annoyed with me packing my bags so much. Lol! At least that's what I've been told).

I didn't dream it, but in 2001 I was remembering quite a bit of my astral plane visitations---ie where I went at night. In one memory, I was in a building and a man I knew came to get me. He told me he was having a tough time explaining something to his students (children) and asked if I would come help do it for him. That's something I can do---I've been a teacher many years and I could explain things well, and in as few words as possible....it sort of makes sense that I would be doing something on the astral levels as I do on this one.

That's always intrigued me---that kids go to school at night. Was it a one night workshop? :) Or was it a regular class which those particular children attended?

This thread is very interesting and I want to share some of my thoughts and experiences. I don't have any clear Pl or LBL memories, but I have certain "feelings" as I call them.

I also read Michael Newton's two books. Actually, they are the only books I ever read about reincarnation. I tried to find other books on the topic as recommended on this forum, but it's just impossible to get them in Russia :( (

Anyway, when I read the books some thoughts were striking me like sudden insights. For example, I remembered that being a child of about 4 or 5 I knew somebody was looking at me from a screen. Michael Newton writes a lot about "screens" to review your past lives and to choose your new life. So, now I think my childish vision was sort of a distorted memory. For some reason I was angry at those looking down :)

I had a feeling of being perminantly watched by somebody hiden from me for many years. That made me feel very uncomfortable, too.

Also, Newton claims that at the point of getting ready for the new life all souls/spirits are given instructions - how to recognise important people and events. I think it really works in my life and the life of my friends. For some funny reason when I met people who were to become my most close friends I felt immediate dislike towards them, I thought they were very weird guys. Dislike instanly turned into connection once we got to first conversations. Interesting, but those people whom I really liked from the first sight never became my close friends! I never choose easy ways.

Earlier on this thread tltfaas spoke about "heaven" and that she felt homesick. I remember being a child and at home with my parents when I told my Mom 'I want to go home'. I had a feeling that there was a real home out there and we just need to go and find it! One of my best friends also feels it.

Gender is a curious discussion! Ancient people had both Gods and Goddesses, but now we have Jesus Christ, Buddha, Allah, etc - all males! It definetly reflects our male-oriented cultures.

Now, does soul/spirit has gender? If it's pure energy there should be no gender differences at all. Or, like one of my friends says, everybody has his/her own gender.

There are people whom we call 'soulmates'. They become our boyfriends, lovers, husbands (girlfriends, lovers, wifes). Love is commonly connected to gender. Ideal eternal love between a man and a woman... two (not three or five) persons bound together by love.. Is it our culture again? Or something deeper than that?

How does love between souls differ from the love 'God' spreads to us? if we forget there we have bodies

I am not sure how to explain the idea clearly, sorry for that.

Hi Wandering.

No, I don't believe the soul (or God, however you conceive her) has a gender. The gender is important to the body for purposes of reproduction, but is pointless in an eternal, immortal soul.

That said, some people here have said they have a preference for incarnating more in one gender than the other, but everyone gets a turn at being either one or the other at different times. If you search 'gender' you will find some earlier threads on this subject. Similarly a search on 'soul mates' will show various discussions on that interesting topic.

I believe human love, divine love, soul love, puppy love, crazy love, true love, motherly love and all forms of love are all part of the same thing - all are 'ice cream' - just different flavours.

Hi Wandering,

I also remember feeling as a child that I wanted to go home.

My son spoke of the same thing when he was 5 but it turned out he was wanting to go and visit his past life family. Not so for me, just a wanting to return home. Just a guess but I think I was missing the between life state then and feel that I still do.
