Tonight we were reading Dr. Seuss' 1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish and when we got to the part that goes..."did you fly a kite in bed, did you ever walk with 10 cats on your head, did you ever milk this kind of cow...
My son looks at me and says "Yes, I used to milk a cow when I was bigger. I'd drive out to the farm, and try to put milk in the pail, but wasn't very good at it so we'd get the machine to do it instead." Then he asked me "Do you remember the farm?" He wouldn't say anything else, just wanted the rest of the story read. I wish I had more clear memories cause I hate not being able to keep up my end of the conversation.

To Galadriel,

"Smacks head and says to child, 'I totally
forgot about that! Was I bigger too?'"

It just goes to show, you never know what
might act as a trigger. For one of my sons
it was his third birthday and an innocent
remark and for another, it was the rocking
horse his Dad bought him.

It never ceases to amaze me, Kat

I've tried things like that, but he looks at me like what are you talking about, and it nearly always breaks the mood. He doesn't tend to be too co-operative in the expanding questions dept., although I have gotten him to realize that I don't always remember the same things he does. I guess I find it a little frustrating, he's got all this stuff locked up inside his cute little head, and I can't get at it.

Hey Galadriel,
Have you thought of taking the bouncing baby boy to a farm where they have milk cows and just visit there? Maybe he'd open up and tell you how this and that worked and wind up telling you what you want to know.
Just a thought.

I did think about it, but probably won't be doing so soon. Also, I got some of it wrong; he didn't say the machine, apparantly the farmer's name sounds something like that. I asked him about it, and he was quite insistant that it wasn't a machine, the farmer was machine. (Don't know, but it sounded like he said the same word twice to me.)

Do you mean like "Michel" (Michael in French)? It might sound like "machine" to a little five year old (or younger) child.

Take Care, -rinkrat.

Possibly, but both of my kids have advanced linguistic skills. They were using complete sentences by 18 months, and speaking clearly enough that most people could understand them. I don't know, maybe it was a nickname.

Hi, I guess my message from yesterday didn't get posted. Is it possible that he said Michel (Michael in French) and that it sounded like 'Machine'? I imagine that it could to a five year old child. Take Care, -rinkrat.

Dear Galadriel,
Ooo, I love your name
I was thinking perhaps the name your son was thinking of is more like MacSheen? Who knows what the possibilities are
