hi i am new to this forum, my dd is 3 1/2 and ever since she was born everyone has always called her an old soul. When she was a newborn my husband would hold her and she would look over his shoulder and just coo and smile, one day he asked her if she was looking at curly and she got the biggest smile on her face, i guess he got it right. Since that time she has never ceased to amaze us with her knowledge and vocabulary, potty trained herself before age two. She is also a very passive person, she does not like confrontaion with others at all. She is my third living child and has a younger sister, 10 mos old. She is very protective of the baby, often time saying that she is her baby not mine, "that she may have come from my tummy, but she is her baby." Two weeks ago my mom was changind the babies diaper and my dd was sitting on the floor in a buddahist meditatoin pose, when mom asked her what she was doing, she immediatly came out of it and resumed playing. Yestarday during lunch, she stated "when i am a baby again i am going to eat the same food as Sara is eating" i asked her what she meant and she said when she goes a long time a gets to be a baby again. i asked her if she had been a baby before this time and she said yes, so i asked her who her mommy was and she said i was, and then she finished her jello like it was no big deal. she has always played with the angels in and around our house, and she has said when she was in my tummy the angels used to fuss because she wouldn't go to sleep. i feel like my daughter is here for a special purpose, and i just needed to share my story, thank you laura

Thanks for sharing Laura! Welcome to CPL. Amazing how matter-of-fact Children are when responding to memories, isn't it?

Hi Laura,

Keep a diary! Write everything down. Years from now, it will be very interesting reading indeed.

thanks

thank you for responding, i have been reading for the last hour or so some of the posts here, and i feel like i am not alone in thinking that my daughter is special. What should i do to encourage her and not prevent her from expressing herself, to the truest form. thanks laura

Laura, it sounds as if you are already doing that for her. Just be the best mom you know how, and get to know her the best way possible. Being open about possibilities is a great way to learn more about her and her lives.

Hi Laura,

You asked, "What should I do to encourage her and not prevent her from expressing herself, to the truest form?"

-Just take her seriously, and listen to what she says. Encourage her to tell more stoies. Do not scoff at the stories. Most parents do scoff, and that is what teaches the child to forget the stories.

Hey, you might want to get the stories on tape! (Can you imagine listening to those tapes 20 years from now...?)

Listen to her, and do not question her sanity. Ask for more information - not with leading questions, but open ended ones.

My daughter amazes me daily ... unfortunately, I missed the clues when she was younger - I was caught up in running my business and didn' t really listen. Now, I take the time to listen ... :)
