I recently reunited with my father's side of the family who I havent seen since I was about 4. I learned that my father died when I was growing up and I have not seen him since 4 years old.
Tonight I recieved in the mail, from my aunt, a collection of family pictures and other momentos, pictures of my dad and etc. One of the things she sent me was a handwritten prayer book my father wrote when he was 7.
It was written a few days before Christmas in 1954. He dated it in the writings. It was a collection of prayers, letters and poems he wrote to my grandparents.
I read through it and came to the last page. I was shocked at what it said:
"Dear Matthew and Dad". That was all that was written on the page.
The odd part is, my son's name is Matthew and I have no uncles or relatives that share the same first name as my son.
Now if my dad happenned to have a childhood friend that coincidentally had the same name of Matthew, it would make no sense to include him with his dad (my grandpa) on a prayer book going to the family. There are no references to any childhood friends in the book, just family members.
I am going to speak with my aunt and see what she knows. She is going to tell me that she doesnt know anything Im sure because she probably never paid attention to it. The part in question is in the same handwriting as the rest of the book. It is his handwriting.
So for whatever reason, my 7 year old father in 1954 wrote "Dear Matthew and Dad" at the end of a handwritten prayer book which came to me in the mail tonight. Its very odd that I became a dad myself and had a child with the same name as on the last page of that book.
