My Goofy Thoughts Are At It Again...

(I put this here because I thought it would be just a "junk thread" if I put it in the Reincarnation Questions thread, where I prefer to see more serious topics.)

I know some people believe that you get to pick your family that you are going to be incarnated in. Something about them draws you to them. Did you ever take a good look at your family and all of their qualities and ask yourself,

"What was I thinking?!?"

I sometimes think I was going to put up with their weirdness, dorkiness, etc., only because that life would hook me back up with a soul I have shared many lives with. Other times I wonder if I wouldn't have had the qualities that got us back together if I had been raised in some other family? Would I have the same personality traits, etc?

You ever wonder what you were thinking? :D

Exactly. What the heck was I drinking on the other side of the veil? Ah, I think everybody's got a weird family. I just wonder what our criteria are when we're picking them.

Some of mine were sweet, if you overlooked the weird and the fondness for the bottle. But mostly they either died before I was born, or made themselves scarce, or somehow just evaporated from my life. And I really, really, really wanted family and tried to be good to the ones I had for a while.

Anyway, whenever I get too full of how special of a soul I am I ask myself why no one wants to hang out with me. Which makes me sound self-pitying. Which doesn't help.

An old lady, steeped in the ancient arts, once told me years ago, that if I wanted to know what kind of life I had led previously, then look at THIS lifetime, and if I wanted to find out what future life I might have, then look at THIS lifetime also.

She was a very wise women, a beacon amongst many dimmed lanterns, in a time when discussions of this type was frowned upon in my conservative and fundamentalist environment of over a half century ago.

And after all is said and done, after a long journey through this lifetime, I think I fared rather well, I tried to treat others as the Golden Rule said, I led a life of service to others and took care of relatives and friends.

Not to sound like the next candidate for sainthood, but it could have been worse, my Parents did not have the best reason for getting married or even staying married and perhaps their situation soured me on marriage (not to mention my professional responsibilities), what if I had gotten married, a family and children would have brought a different mix to the recipe, I'm sure.

Oh well, I'll know for sure, sooner or later. ;)
