My mom said it was okay to ask this...

My mom has ADHD and has trouble sitting still when being hypnotized. Do you have any suggestions to make it easier for her to get hypnotized?

I think it's easier when you are lying down. Either a bed, couch, floor, etc. I've never done it sitting up. The work shop / seminar I went to in 1984 was at a hotel banquet room. They had all of us lie down on the floor with a pillow.

Thank you for the suggestion! She did it sitting on a chair and she was moving around the whole time lol. I'll tell her to lie down next time she does one and we'll see if she goes under more easily.

I think she needs to practice "active meditation". I read "Celestial 911- Call Your Right Brain For Answers", by Robert B. Stone, about 12 years ago. I found his method simple to use, and without it, I don't think I would ever have learned to meditate. My mind and body were just too unsettled. Practicing the meditative state really helps before a regression. Stone described a method for relaxing that was like taking an elevator down, floor by floor. Maybe this would help your Mom.

Your mom could try lying down in a darkened room. That might help her out. Bedroom could be good or living or family room, long as she is comfortable and you can darken the room.

I will see if we can buy that book next time we hit up the bookstore. :) It's being sold online for $224. Crazy right? I doubt it's worth THAT much.

Thanks for the suggestion. She said next time she'll lie on my bed instead of sit on my chair. We had the lights out but it didn't work for her.

Correction, I now remember some people did sit in chairs and many of us laid down in an area that was cleared for us.

Geez, Sarellah! It definitely isn't worth $224 dollars! I paid about $5.00. It must be out of print. Did you try both on-line giant book stores?

That was in the Barnes N Noble marketplace and it was the highest price someone was selling it for. I just shared that because I thought it was hilarious. I will check if it's in B&N next time I go lol

Amazon has used starting at $25.93 to $49.99 and new from $94.94 to $385.94!! No Kindle edition. You might try calling used book stores in the area.

Semi-related: I got interested to see if I was right or left brained, so I took a number of on line quizzes and came up with middle brained (neither side dominant). Weird.

Thank you, Misty. :) I'll ask my mom if she's interested in buying it online.

I'm probably right brained but I focus more on the left due to anxiety. You have a good balance :)

I still think that's very expensive for a paper back. Robert B. Stone is associated with the Silva method, and any used paperback with the Silva meditation method would work as well. When I bought the book, I didn't know I was making a retirement investment. OMG

lol, and is the active meditation the Silva method? :)

i just want to thank all of you for being so cool, thoughtful in both being thinkers and helpful, intelligent, spiritually engaged, mature, accepting, etc. :)

*feeling sentimental about this site because i'm being kicked out of facebook groups a lot for VERY petty things like disagreeing with my opinions*

Jose' Silva taught active meditation, but many Westerners use it. Shakti Gawain teaches creative visualization, but I find Silva easier to work with. It seems to work for those of us with "unquiet minds".
