My past life in Detroit

I have memories I'd like to share.
They are precious to me.

The truth is, my family and friends don't like to talk about these things, they don't believe in them and they are against me trying regression therapy. So, I keep it to myself. A forum like this is a paradise, because I can finally tell all the things I remember. And they are a lot.

I remember many past lives, but I'll focus on my last one.
Because I have detailed memories... (And I'm sorry for such a long post)

I was from Detroit, a poor neighbourhood, and I grew up in a yellow wooden house by the train track. The house was a two storey one. It had a front porch with a tin roof. And I remember the inside of the house. As soon as you walked in, there would be a staircase on the left, and the old living room on the right. The flooring was a greenish carpet one and the walls were made of wooden panels. Also, we had a wooden TV, black n white. There was a corridor to the kitchen. And a small laundry room between the kitchen and the living room. The kitchen had a window to the backyard. And the backyard had a wire mesh partition all around. I don't remember if the train track ran behind the house or by the house. But I remember that, when the train passed by, even the soil would tremble and shake. I was so used to that. People threw garbage near the tracks, furniture parts and, sometimes, it smelled. The train stopped running after a while.

I remember that I lived with my mom and grandma. My currant's life mother was my grandma in Detroit (she has a few memories from Detroit, as well, and something related to the name Candice).

I remember that my mother, in the past life, was called Susan. I don't remember the surname. But she was kind of detached from me. She was a smoker. And she would often smoke by the kitchen window, looking out. My mother didn't talk to me that much. We were strangers in the same house. I don't remember a father. I think my mom was a single mom. But I remember her boyfriend. The guy was called Anthony, and they would fight a lot. They had the scariest fights. Yelling and shutting doors.

I was closer to my grandma than with my mother.

Grandma lived with us. Grandma and I, we slept in the same double bed. We would talk for hours and hours before sleeping. And she was my saving boat. I loved her (now I love her as my mother). My favorite memory from childhood was a trip to Aspen. With me, mom and grandma. We went by bus and stayed in a cheap hotel. Also, from my childhood, I remember being terrified of the washing machine. I was always in horror of being trapped inside the laundry room.

I think my grandma died when I was seven or eight. It really broke me. In this currant life, I'm terrified of losing my parents. I'm always scared of them getting sick, because that's how I lost my grandma. I lost her to the hospital.

When I was 14 or 15, Susan's friend asked her if she could take in a boy that was almost being taken away by the social service. This boy's mother was an addict and he had been on and off the system his whole life. My mother said yes. And, eventually, she took the boy to our house. He was just a bit older than me. And he was an odd one, wouldn't talk to us, or even look at us, he had been neglected way too much. He slept in the couch and he barely ate. I'll call him Jay. At first, I was scared of Jay, but he was a good person.

He stayed for a few weeks. Then, he retuned to his mother and older brother. Months later, he was taken back to our home and stayed longer. Eventually, he was part of the family.

My mother worked the night shift. She slept the whole day and woke up only for work. She was always in a bad mood. And she would often say stuff regarding lack of money and cutting down expenses. She hated her life, I think. And I felt responsible... being the anchor of her younger years. For that reason, I really got attached to Jay. He was a calm person. He was strong and resilient. So much had happened to him, and, yet, he had dreams and a beautiful laughter. He was my model. And I looked up to him. Not only that, I loved him.

Since we were so close all the time, we started dating.
He kissed me while we were listening to music in my old record player. I wish I could remember the song, but I don't. I remember we studied in different schools. He studied further away, but would take me to my school everyday. I remember he later got a job and bought an old car. We would stay together at night. He would come back home from work, and I'd be waiting for him in the stairs. We would put on a record in my bedroom and listen to music together. And other things. Good times. I don't think my mother knew. I don't think anyone else knew. We kept it to ourselves. We were lonely people. So, we just stayed lonely together.

I was 17 or 18 when we went, in a group of friends, to a construction site. It was kind of a thing... many local teens would invade construction sites at night to watch the sunset and get drunk. This memory, in particular, is really strong in my mind. We were a group of five, and we walked up the stairs to a higher floor. And we watched the sunset. The most beautiful sunset I had even seen in these last two lives. Detroit was beautiful from above, full of life. There were many constructions going on in the neighbourhood, with cranes and machinery in the horizon. Jay and I, we watched the sunset away from the others. And, into the night, we watched the city lights. Then, he took a ring from his pocket. And asked if I would marry him after we got a house for ourselves. I said yes. It was an amethyst ring.

Now comes my most traumatising life event (that has influenced my currant life).

I died in a car accident. In this currant life, I have a recurring nightmare. Ever since I was a child until now, every six month, I dream that I'll walking alongside a street, and there's blood on the asphalt. And, then, pieces of a person. It's always terrifying and I wake up immediately. But it's always myself that is dead on the street, and I can't look at my own body. I don't remember the accident. I don't remember what happened. But I remember one thing that breaks my heart.

I remember being on the ground, not feeling my body, but thinking that I wouldn't tell Jay about the accident, or he would be worried. And I didn't want him to be worried. Then, I think I died. However, I don't think I went away immediately. I stayed near him, and my presence almost broke him. I remember things he did after me. I remember places. They are harder to remember, but it's mostly darkness. Jay would lock himself up and stay in the dark for long hours. He would cry. He would pray and say to God just how unfair it was. Just how unfair. And that's my last memory of that life.

I was born again in 1988.
In Brazil.
Because I went back to my family... my grandma, that is my mother now. She was 20 and had just gotten married.

I remembered Jay when I was 3 years old. My family went to a wedding and it made me remember that I had a fiance. And that I loved him to death. I remembered his face and the sunset from Detroit.

I'm 33 now, and I had a total of one boyfriend in this currant lifetime. And I dated him due to social pressure. I'm terrified of having to date or marry anyone else. People say I'm sick on the head, that I need a psychiatrist and that my past life is in the past... but it's hard to be with someone else. It's too hard.

In my head, I still have a fiance.
I know, it's been 40 years. He's probably 60. Married, happy and with another family. And it's not my place anymore. Still, I miss him. I miss what could have been for us. I even miss Detroit. And that small yellow house.

Finding him now would be like trying to find a needle in the haystack.

This is my story and I hope I didn't write a whole book in here (looking back, it seems like a book).
A lot of people say I invented all these things, or maybe that I remember them from movies and books. But it's not. I know what is memory and what is creation. Creation requires effort and energy. Memories... they simple invade you, they rush into you, they scream, they are easy to spot and hurtful. And these memories are so strong that they have reflected in my currant life for all these years. And they will linger until I die again.

I've always missed something from the bottom of my soul.
At least, now that I found this forum, I don't feel so alone anymore. Thank you all so much. I feel better after putting it all out.

Hi Camila. Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing.

Like you my family is also completely opposed to my having past life memories. They are so opposed, in fact, that they take their opinions of my memories to the kind of extremes of justification that I simply would not do.

For instance, one of my sisters said that perhaps I can accurately recall dozens of details without contradiction is because I am so involved in believing in reincarnation. "How so?" I said to her. "I didn't know my details were accurate to history because I hadn't studied it in depth or in some cases not at all. In order to believe what you said that means I would have had to have rolled sixes consistently dozens of times to get that result. That's beyond luck or coincidence IMO."

But I can't change another's beliefs and, like you Camila, I've found a community of reincarnation believers who don't dismiss my memories as being madness.

Also you story reminds me of my immediate past life in one regard. I was engaged to my fiance and was shot and killed in a war. The problem with being alive and being in love is that our mortality risks breaking peoples hearts. Its unavoidable.

On another note have you done any research into houses, trains, streets and such in Detroit in the 1950s? I dunno, it just feels to me that you were describing the fifties.

I feel you about people trying to dismiss it.
I think people are scared of past life memories. Or maybe scared of having no memories at all. My parents, they believe in past life memories, but they don't like to talk about them. The rest of the family, they are religious and don't believe in these things (they said once it was the devil blurring my judgement).

But I have a theory, we tend to gravitate towards things we already know. So, a lot of our currant preferences and decisions are based on past lives. Also, we often follow those we love. Sometimes you are watching a movie, and a special scene gives you a flashback. I believe that's a memory as well. A forgotten memory.

It was probably 60's or 70's, because I remember the train stopped running. And Detroit had a transportation withdraw around those decades. I remember the Michigan Train Station. I walk around the train tracks, on google maps, but I haven't recognized the right place yet.

And I'm sorry about you and your fiance. It's too hard on them. Also hard on us.

Perhaps Camile. Perhaps people are scared of things beyond what they have experienced? I've noticed, with another sister in particular, that she gets unusually uncomfortable if I mention a pl memory. Dunno why.

I've heard people say of my own memories maybe I also gravitated towards it, like I was a fan of the periods or something. I wasn't, I was stunned as I wasn't what I had expected to be.

I dunno how your family can say it was the devil blurring your judgement. They've even less of a basis to jump to such conclusions as they are unlikely to have to validate that statement. Your in a better position to validate your memories however IMO.

I get what you say about movies and such. We exist on so many levels at such unknown depths its hard to pinpoint the root causes in many cases. The more I experience about reincarnation the more mysterious existence seems to become for me.

So you remembered a train stopped running in 60s Detroit? Was it later you found out that this had indeed occurred?

Maybe other American members will be able to help you uncover more details.

Yea well....thanks. It was harder on her in her current life though, partly because I survived this time.

That's exactly it... people get uncomfortable.
And I understand that. It's uncomfortable having memories as well, hahahahaha. Especially when you don't know what to do with so much.

I can't find the detailed information on which line closed, by year, but I found this info that in the late 60's they closed part of the Michigan Central Station and reduced lines and trains. In 1988, the station closed. It would be really cool if I could get more info on that.

Maybe another member can help you with that Camile. All I know about Detroit is from the original RoboCop. Yet you've given enough details to be examined IMO.

Hahahahaha, yes. Can you believe I didn't watch this movie? I'll take a look, maybe it will give me an idea of what to do next.

I have a few more memories from that life. I don't know why they are coming back like this. It's too much information and they keep pressuring me, like there's something I should do immediately, but I don't know what. Also, I wish I could get over my absolute fear of cars. I have taken my driver's license last year, but I can't drive. I fear I'll hit someone. These things, they linger in our heads.

But thank you so much. You've given me the courage to look further into it.

Lol yeah. Maybe watch more Peter Weller movies?

You just need to build up your confidence IMO.

That's cool. If you uncover more details or validations will you be posting them here or do you want to keep it private?

I'll take a look at his work. Maybe, his tv shows as well. Thank you so much for your recommendation.
If I discover anything else, or validate any memory, I'll post for sure.

Camila, you are so attached to your past life Fiance.
Dont get married until you find that type of attachment. I really never thougth I would marry and than i wrote out my LIST of what i wanted in a spouse. I taped it to the mirror in my bedroom and read it daily for one or two months. Than during the full moon i burned it in the sink. Long story short i met my soul mate. Everything from my list! He was nothing like what i imagined my soul mate to "look" like but once i bumped into him i just knew. The coincidences we shared were beyond uncanny and although i do not remember him from any past life, we were meant to be together in this one. We are eachothers best friend and we really are opposites yet share so many of the same loves. We also don't get attached to material possessions of any sort and prefer to travel . And like me he can communicate with the tiniest of creatures)))

On another note i went to Detroit to visit some relatives but it was a scary place. Not recommended and totally changed from the years you lived there. I feel as though you wont have peace until you find "jay". Brazil is so far away and without a last name to Jay you would be chasing a ghost. Not to mention you probably wont remember much if you go because it has changed completely.

Nobody in my family nor none of my friends have memories of any past life. It saddens me a bit. I feel like we are all freaks because we are so in the minority. I use to ask everyone I met but I stopped after asking around 1000 people. I am not sure the purpose of life if most remember nothing from their past lives. How are we to grow and learn from all the choices we have made over millenia?

Hey, I'm so happy that you found the right person for you.
This feeling of partnership is so important in a relationship. It's the best feeling when you find someone that is exactly like you but, also, the opposite. Two sides of a coin. :)

And I'm happy that you have that in your life.
You attracted him when you kept on repeating the list.

Yes, it would be hard to find my Jay now. And, if I did, how would I even talk to him? It would feel like playing with people's feelings. Not many out there believe in reincarnation. And I could hurt him. I don't want that. Never. I should move on. That's what my family and friends tell me to do. My grandma wants to find me a husband (hahahaha). Yet, there I go again, falling in love with someone I don't even remember the surname.

And about you not remembering your past lives... you know, it's always on the surface, trying to emerge. Fear is the main reason why we can't remember. Also, self-protection, I think. I have a technique that I evolved along the years (I was like those kids that have past life memories since forever, so, I had to put some sort of order in my head... or I'd go crazy). To remember, I allow myself to make mistakes and to recollect freely (not overthinking if it's a past life memory or just my imagination). Amid a range of memories, some feel as real as memories from my childhood. Others, they are too blurry, or uncertain, and probably untrue. That's how I remember. And the more you focus on a lifetime, the more you discover.

I have a few lifetimes that scares me too much, so I avoid them.

Everything you said running through my head.

Yes maybe that is true about the list. I think you misread something as i personally remember many of my past lives like you. Just not in detail. More like many dreams. But I also have attachments to certain places and people. It just drives me nuts that not one of my family or friends have any recollection of anything.
So you say it is best to forget about "jay" yet you are in your 30's and cannot. So how will you proceed?

Ahhh, I see!!!
I'm so sorry I misread you. English is not my first language, so I still read way thought sometimes!! hahahaha... I'm sorry again.

That's hard when we have no one to talk to about these matters.
Or when people take it to the religious side. The only time I talked about reincarnation with a close friend, she started avoiding me. So, I kept it to myself after that.

Yes, I don't know how to proceed!! Hahaha. Whenever my grandma asks me, I just say I'll be gladly adopting a bunch of cats. She doesn't like it. Brazilians are super family oriented.

Hi I was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan in this lifetime. However, I moved from Kalamazoo due to my dad's job when I was only 5 so I don't have very many memories of growing up there, but I do sometimes go there to visit family. My boyfriends parents grew up in Detroit in the 60s around the time of your past life. Usually when I think of Detroit around that time I think of the civil rights movement and the racial riots that went on back then and still go on to this day According to my mom who grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan during the 60s and 70s they even had them there and she didn't like it to the point she dropped out her senior year of high school because of a racial riot at her school. As for finding the right guy my advice would be to get over your fiance from past life. Like you said he could still be alive in this timeline and in his 60s or 70s now and has long since moved on. And besides that was past life. Instead focus on your future more. You say your culture is like mine in the sense that there is a lot of pressure to marry by the time you are an adult. Think of what your future will be like without getting married compared to getting married. I use to be very happy single as a teenager and there is some benefits to being single, but as I got into college I began to realize I had feelings for guys and wanted to have a boyfriend and started dating. It helped me to get more involved in my community. Not only did I go to college where I eventually met my boyfriend but I also volunteered. Also think about your hobbies and interest even as weird as they may be I'm sure you can find others with similar interest in your community if you look hard enough. I'm a bit of a geek and into comics and video games so I'll sometimes go to local comic cons and also go to the local video game and comic book stores. My dad has been into model cars and stuff since he was really young and has even managed to find some friends with similar interest by joining local clubs and going to toy shows. You really just have to get out and start looking and if there isn't something in your area already you can start your own club based on an interest or hobby and I'm sure there will be others in your community willing to join. I would however advise against meeting people online as people online can be mean and besides it isn't the same as meeting face to face.
