I'm happy that I found you all. My story is this.
I am Macedonian, I was born in 1966 and we moved to the states in 1970. When I was 8 and 13 we went back to visit. I had never experienced anything unusual growing up and I had memories that I thought were from the time I was 4 or 5 before we moved to the States.
On our trip back to Macedonia when I was thirteen we took a side trip to a tourist destination within my country which my parents said we had never visited. We took a long 3 hour bus ride to get to this location.
Enjoying the view out the bus window we got to a section that smelled of rotten eggs, which triggered my first memory. It turns out that the rotten egg smell was of sulfur and that there was an extinct Volcano in the area. I turned to my parents and said, "Oh OK I know where we are going now, I was here with my uncle when I was 5."
My parents turned to me incredulously and said "You were never here with your uncle." I insisted that I had been there before as I had a very distinct memory of being a small child holding the hand of a tall thin dark haired man that resembled my father's half-brother. Again my parent insisted that I stop telling lies as I had never been to this part of Macedonia.
Instead I kept telling them what would be around the next bend in the road, or what used to be in a certain location that was not there when we did get to that bend in the road.
Two more distinct memories occurred during this trip, as we were making our way to a tourist spot of King Samueil's stronghold (a dirt track up a long winding road with cliffs to one side) I said to my parents that we would get to a section of the road that had a spring out of the side of the hill which had a bamboo like spout for drinking. Well we did get to that spring but it didn't look like my memory. It had been upgraded with cement and steel and was still pouring forth fresh water but it wasn't the primitive memory that I had. By this point my parents were beyond annoyed with me and just told me to once and for all shut up as I had never been here with any relative ever!
The next part is what has me believing that it really was a past-life memory, which is still vivid today. Around a bend on this dirt track, I told my parents that we would be able to look over the side of the cliff to see a bustling fishing village below. Well it was there all right, except that it was in total ruins, with only stone foundations of houses still evident, but in my memory I saw children, and adults, and fishing boats. I never did learn how long ago that village existed before it went to ruin.
At that point my parents had nothing to say and we sort of went about the rest of the day as if we never had the conversation.
It is strange that the memory of a past life is of an area where I indeed was raised before moving to the States, rather than some exotic location or time like mid-evil England or the Civil War, or Egyptian princesses.
There are two other distinct memories that my mother has definitely told me were not part of our past. This being of my grandfather playing the pig skin bagpipe, which my mother said my real grandfather never played (it was in celebration of my 5th birthday that I remember). And another of visiting family (also at the age of 5 and seeing a raging fire and crying for my mother to return). My mother swears that these two incidents did not occur in my life. But to this day I see them as very real memories.
Thanks for listening
