My son says he was a soldier

This is my first post so I hope I'm in the right place.. Since my son could talk he has said he was a soldier and when he grows up he's going "back to the military".

He wasn't around anyone that discussed the military around him a lot so I wonder if it is a past life memory. At first I thought it was maybe a phase but he's been saying it since he was two years old. He knows the technical name and caliber of several military weapons(again that's not something I know about so he didn't hear it at home).

Hello MelissaP,

Welcome to the past life forum!

It sounds like your son may be talking about a past life. You say he started speaking about the military when he was two - how old is he now, and does he still talk about it? Has he ever talked to you about memories, who he was? If you can remember the names of the weapons he mentioned, that may tell you a lot about the era he in which he lived.

Have you read Carol Bowmans book 'Children's Past Lives'? Do visit our book section here on the forum, there are many books that may help you understand how to guide your son through this time.

Hi. Thanks for the welcome. I haven't gotten the chance to read the book yet but I do plan on it. He doesn't say anything about a past life other than he was a soldier and tells "war stories". He talks about different types of machine guns and rpgs a lot and tanks he calls m2 and m3s. I don't know what is imagination and what is possibly memories. I just find it interesting that hes 8 now, almost 9 and hasn't changed his basic story. He has always said "I was a soldier and when I grow up I'm going back to the military". and "I miss battle,I figured out it was what I was good at".

RPG's are "rocket propelled grenades". Tanks and machine guns. Sounds like it may have been a recent war. Correction: I just looked them up. M2 and M3 tanks were used in WWII by both the Americans and British. RPG's were developed by the Russians after WWII. But they were patterned after WWII bazookas and German "panzerfaust". So it sounds like he is talking about a recent past life during WWII or later. You can ask him open ended questions. Bed time when he is sleepy the memories are close to the surface. Also riding in a car puts them in the right mental state for remembering past life things. Keep a journal and write everything down.

That's a really great idea. It's nice to talk to people about this without them thinking I'm crazy. I even had to have a conference with his teacher when he was in Kindergarten because they were concerned that he talked so much about war. The older he has gotten the less "war stories" he tells. He will still talk about things in matter of fact terms that I know he hasn't learned from home. A journal would be a great way to also keep up with what he is consistent about and what changes.

In addition to Carol's two books, also read "Soul Survivor" by Andrea and Bruce Leninger. It will blow your mind. Carol is the one who advised them when little James was having nightmares. Also look at the video archive section here. If you search for reincarnation on YouTube you will find many videos on the subject. Several people here have said they were skeptics before reading about James Leninger. Here is a YouTube video clip on Leninger.

Hi melissap

Welcome to the forum.

Nobody's going 'crazy'. This is not an uncommon situation. It's quite likely your son is remembering his previous life. This is a perfectly natural occurrence. It happened to me too when I was little. It seemed perfectly normal to me and I was surprised when I began to figure out that 'grown ups' and others did not share my experience. I got in 'trouble' too with my kindergarten teachers over it! :)

I should add we didn't even have a TV until I was 6 or 7 and were carefully shielded from anything 'scarey'. Even when we got a TV we weren't allowed to watch anything remotely 'unsuitable'. I knew all kinds of stuff that little kids really had no reasonable explanation of knowing, but it didn't bother me until people starting acting strange about me expressing it. I just thought it was how things were. I thought everyone was the same until I found out otherwise.

It's normal for kids to grow out of it by about school age, or 6 or 7 or so. But not everyone grows out of it. I still haven't!

... I don't know what is imagination and what is possibly memories. I just find it interesting that hes 8 now, almost 9 and hasn't changed his basic story. I know how he feels. I used to be 'good at it' too, once upon a time. It's probably not 'just his imagination'. It is most likely past life memories. It's nothing to be worried about either. It will possibly fade away. Possibly not. Either way, it's all fine and nothing to worry about, unless he seems concerned by it.
