Nightmares of Pastlives?

I have been aware for a while now of a possible past life of mine where I died tragically with my family.

Now I have begun to have nightmares of the event. Is it common to have that happen? Does it perhaps validate other nightmares people have as possible past life memories?

The recurring nightmare is quite horrible and I have lost sleep over it. Any tips to make the dream stop?

I would also be interested in hearing others' dreams if they are willing to share. My nightmare of the day I died is very far from what I believe actually happened- in fact in the dream I always survive and have to start my life over all alone because my family still died horribly.

Thanks for reading and in advance for any replies.

Just from my own experience, this is what I would do:

If you believe in prayer, then I would pray for understanding. Ask for the meaning of why the dream should appear in your life at this time. Write the dream down in detail, especially if it wakes you up - do not fail to do this. Over time you should see the quality of the dream change from nightmarish to enlightening. By enlightening, I mean that you may begin to understand how the dream details are a reflection of things that are going on in your life at this time - things like home life, work life, personal growth, perhaps a deeper spiritual growth than you have known before.

I really believe that your mind uses the thoughts and images that are currently active in the brain to construct a dream sequence. Perhaps the part of you that is spirit is providing some of this material, because you are more than a physical being - you are a spirit also. The two are one and you are master of both. You experience the nightmare as a human being but your spiritual nature is most assuredly an active participant in this process and that is why I say to pray for understanding - prayer is a spiritual activity. I don't believe your spiritual nature is sleeping when the your physical body is sleeping - I am quite certain that the spirit is awake and active, so ask it to provide meaning. When you are incarnate in this world, you are not simply one or the other.

Alternatively, you could meditate and seek understanding this way. It is all the same to me: prayer, meditation, taking a walk and talking to God. Whatever is happening when you do these things seems to produce results.

About writing things down:

I wonder if sometimes people think that the reason to record dreams is just to have a record. While it is neat to have a record of your dream life, that it is not goal of writing dreams down onto paper. There is some sort of brain activity that takes place when you write something down. Sometimes it seems as though the images are flushed out of memory and now you have more capacity for newer and better images. Out with the old, in with the new. Pencil and paper make for good neuronal activity.
