No Past Life?

I'm a fool.
Haha. Atleast, that's how I feel. At times.
Aware & Inhibited.
The thought occurred to me tonight, on an auspicious occasion.
What if I've no past life ?


... I ask because, my initial thoughts were something like, I've not known love like this- and so, I must not have had a past life.
If I look back I see the countless times where I've been called naïve and then some.
Or, maybe I've had a past life but as an animal (?)
....


I've not thought much of a past life. If anything, it has been a very present life. I wonder how many people out there feel similar ? Maybe I've just never given it as much thought as some of you here. I think I might lack the discipline... Or I wonder If I truly am just a new Soul on Earth ?

It's highly unlikely that you've never had a previous life. Possible I suppose, but unlikely.


It's normal not to remember anything. It's like dreams. Everyone dreams, but only a few remember their dreams at all well. Many don't remember anything at all about their dreams.


Only a small percentage of people remember anything from their previous lives consciously. Others are able to retrieve memories with effort and patience.

I've no idea, really. But most people do not remember any past lives, and you're in good company. I believe that the Dalai Lama had said that initially he did not remember any past lives (the selection process does not rely on his memory of past lives), but that recently he has had a few glimpses while in meditation, and that's after a lifetime of practice.


I have no recall for myself that I can trust but have on rare occasion had 'visions' of other people's. There are many possibilities - lives on other planets, or as beings other than human. Long times between lives - maybe some of us don't come back very often and the memories aren't very vivid? Or maybe we're just supposed to do our own thing this time around?

Memory is actually very close to the surface of our mind, but for most people it's like developing a new skill, so they simply need guidance, explanation, handholding, whatever 'you' need to work with your belief.

Hi CloudP... Your "wonderings" were beautiful to read... certainly they are valid in your journey. I believe that the River Lithe and her waters of forgetfulness run deeper for some people. It is their journey, their lot... perhaps yours.


I'm one who tends to think that the details of past lives are not as important as the concept itself. I, in the realm of my own soul and spirit, know we return. I'm fortunate to have seen glimpses, details and memories to validate it. But my interest is no longer in those details but in the idea that this vessel I inhabit is temporary. The influence I have on the world... on family, friends, readers, you, them etc is of much greater value. And that influence, in some ways, effects what I will return to... what we all will return to.


I like what JonniGray says above, perhaps you are developing the skills necessary. (WELCOME JonniGray!!) In your journey perhaps the time has not come... or perhaps it has and it has occurred in a way you did not see. Rather than concentrate so hard on finding them, simply allow yourself to experience life itself with the faith that you have lived before and that your soul is the culmination of those past times. In the recent issue of Orion magazine there is a wonderful passage where Rebecca Solnit in her essay entitled The Art Of Arrival, said "...a journey assumes a shape and a meaning that are only clear afterward, and like a journey, a life requires that you learn to let go of the plan when the actuality departs from it, to embrace what's arriving..." And she goes on to say, "...some in the subtlest of journeys move toward becoming who they are meant to be; some arrive." The reality is the now... how do we live it?
